  • NOTES FROM CO-ARTISTIC DIRECTORS Welcome to Guys & Dolls!

We have enjoyed bringing an “old school Broadway musical” to the stage with our energetic company members and production team, and endeavored to stay true to its original spirit while giving it a fresh approach.

As we often find, art imitates life and the same can be said about Running to Places as we move forward into season four with an exciting new line-up of main stage shows and mix in more R2P2 offerings. The original spirit of the company will remain, and we have spent most of the summer developing a fresh approach to how we will handle doing our work. Families who are involved next year will get detailed information on these changes prior to auditions, which are set to begin during the first weekend of October.

We also have enjoyed the mix of old/new on our production team for the show. Please take a few moments and note that last year’s Footloose cast is well represented again this summer, but in very different “roles:”

Nick Shuhan (“Ren”) is Assistant Director/Fight Choreographer Travis Jones (“Willard”) is Technical Director Kati Andersson (“Ariel”) is Assistant Music Director/Wardrobe Supervisor Shauna Belokur (“Urleen”) is Scenic Charge Artist

Other alumni involved include Ricia Weber and Emily Goodell, as well as “honorary” alumna Katie Lane as Assistant Choreographer. As our alumni group grows, we continue to appreciate the ways they “give back” to the company in substantial ways. We wish them (and our departing seniors) all the best in the upcoming academic year as they head to college and new opportunities – and eagerly await welcoming them back!

Mixed in with the “old guard” are also new faces and collaborating groups. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with lighting designer Max Doolittle, who will return to light our season-closing Wind in the Willows (September 10 – 12). Please note a new venue for this show: Community School of Music and Arts. This summer, CSMA has opened its doors to us this summer for dance workshops, rehearsals and now performances.

Indeed, new collaboration opportunities seem to constantly appear even as we continue to define who we are as a theatre company. We love serving youth, families and communities throughout Tompkins County.

We hope you are as excited as we are to see what appears next on the horizon!

Steve TenEyck CAST, ARTISTIC & PRODUCTION TEAM BIOS Adam Beckwith (Sky Masterson) recently graduated Lansing High School and will be attending Cornell University in the fall. Guys and Dolls will be Adam’s final musical in high school, and will also be his 26th show since he began 9th grade. Favorite roles include “Orin” (Little Shop of Horrors), “Nick” (Fame), “Rum-Tum-Tugger (CATS), and “Julian” (42nd Street). Music has been a favorite pastime for Adam for many years now, and his favorite part of performance is that he gets to share everything he’s learned and worked for with everyone. Adam would like to thank his friends and family for their unyielding support. Adam Friedlander (Angie the Ox): Adam is thrilled to be making his R2P debut. He has been in theatre since the seventh grade and will be a junior at Newfield High School. He has previously been seen as “Randolph MacAfee” in Bye-Bye Birdie and “Charlie Bucket” in Willy Wonka. When he is not on the stage, he is playing three varsity sports and performs the guitar with his brother at school functions. Adam would like to thank his Mom, Dad, Brother, Todd Peterson, Jacqueline Mclean, and Brandon Steinorth for always supporting him in music, theatre, and sports. Adam Gruschow (Saxophones) has always held a special place in his heart for The Theatre. Ever since he was a little boy, he can remember watching productions of Oliver! and Annie, always wishing to be a member of the cast., but never having the courage. It wasn’t until his senior year of high school when his dreams were finally realized, and he plucked up the courage and braved a Theater Audition. He was cast as The Devil in Damn Yankees!, which was seen as the upset of the season in the town of Gorham, NY. After

  • seeing his dream through, Adam realized in a moment of clarity that Theatre was not the life for him, and instead chose an equally underpaying career: that of a bassoon music educator. At Ithaca College, Adam has been an experimental tour de force in the most avant garde of bassoon literature, with his faithful sidekick/witless fool accompanist Mikey Wade always a step behind, but all the more enthusiastic to be of some use, somewhere. In the near future, Adam plans on rocking his senior student teaching, taking long walks along Cayuga’s shores, and living his life to the absolute fullest. Allison Mollenkamp (Assistant Stage Manager) is thrilled to be working on yet another R2P production. She'll be going to high school in the fall and is glad that she's gotten to spend the summer working on such an exciting production. When she's not working backstage, she enjoys acting, singing, writing, and playing the trumpet. She would like to thank her family for driving her to places and everybody who's worked on this show for being so wonderful. Enjoy the show! Amanda Wagner (Martha): Amanda is a junior at LACS and excited to be part of her sixth R2P show! She has recently been seen in Showcase 2010 and The Music Man. When not acting, Amanda enjoys playing lacrosse and several instruments. A big thank you to everyone who worked on the show and to her and Natalia’s parents for driving her to and from rehearsals. Enjoy the show! Andrew Whitson (Oboe/English Horn/Clarinet/Tenor Sax) is a Senior Music Education major at Ithaca College studying oboe with Paige Morgan. Andrew was most recently the English Horn/Oboe III player for the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble. While pursuing his undergraduate degree he has also performed extensively around the Ithaca area. Performing in shows like Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat and Evita. He has also performed with the Ithaca Community Chorus and the Finger Lakes Women's Chorale. Andrew also maintains a private studio of advanced middle and high school oboists. He is very excited about playing Guys and Dolls and testing his skills on the saxophone and clarinet! Brendon Lucas (Pit, Reeds) has performed as a clarinetist with the Thurnauer Youth Symphony, New York Youth Symphony chamber ensembles, the Teaneck and South Orangetown Community Bands, The Ridgewood Concert Band, The Ramsey Wind Symphony and various other ensembles. Over the last several years, he has performed in master classes in and around New York City with performers including David Schiffrin, David Krakauer, Claude Frank, Carol Wincenc, Keith Underwood, and both Ida and Ani Kavafian. He has performed as a clarinetist and vocalist in such venues as Symphony Space, CAMI Hall, Weill Hall at Carnegie, Carnegie Hall, Eastman Hall, Avery Fischer Hall at Lincoln Center and various other performing arts centers. He is currently studying at Ithaca College undergoing majors in both music education and clarinet performance, and performs with the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. Brianna Hulbert (Sound Engineer) is a freshman at Newfield High School who is thrilled to be mixing her 4th show with Running to Places. (others have included Singing In The Rain, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown and the Spring Showcase). She would like to thank Mom&Dad for countless rides and George for a plethora of lucky peanut m&m’s. Caleb Harris (Lt. Brannigan): Caleb is going to be a sophomore at IHS. This is his sixth or seventh show with R2P (He’s lost count). He enjoys spending almost all of his free time by playing piano, doing theater stuff, or just hanging out with his friends. He would like to shout out to all of the production crew for making this such an amazing show, his parents for driving him everywhere, his friends, and all the kids on the summer crew “team.” Finally he would like to thank Joey, Todd, and Gail for being such amazing people and for being endless wells of enthusiasm and energy. Enjoy the show! Caroline Sendek (Hot Box Doll/Havana Waitress) is thrilled to be performing in her 6th show with R2P! She has previously been seen in shows with R2P, Ithaca High School, and Dewitt Middle School, and was also an assistant stage manager for Little Shop of Horrors with R2P last summer. Her favorite roles were “Meg” in Little Women at Dewitt, of

  • Aida at IHS, and ensemble of Footloose with R2P. Caroline has been most recently seen in the R2P Spring Showcase in June, and in R2P fundraising benefit, Viva la Femme. She hopes you all enjoy the show! Engy Hassan (Hot Box Doll/Bridesmaid) is very excited to be in her 5th Running to Places Production! She has previously been seen in Once Upon a Mattress, 2009 Spring Showcase, Footloose, Little Shop of Horrors, Marrassa and Midnight, and Babes in Arms! During her free time, Engy enjoys working and spending time with younger children. Engy would like to thank many who encouraged her to continue acting!

  • and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Sally). Other productions include Into the Woods (Little Red), and Aida (Amneris) at Ithaca HS and The Tempest (Caliban) with SITB. She would like to thank the cast for being beautiful, anyone who drove her around, and special thanks to those that have given us Running to Places and the wonderful experiences that we would never have gotten otherwise. I love you all! Katarina Andersson (Assistant Music Director, Wardrobe Supervisor): This is Kati’s 13th R2P show, but her first as assistant music director. She greatly enjoys being a ridiculous music nerd with Mikey Wade. Recent performance credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, God’s Play and Las Meninas in MA, as well as Footloose (Ariel) with R2P. Kati also recently directed Viva La Femme’s second annual benefit show for R2P. Lastly, she’s proud to be an alumna-intern working to keep Running to Places running! Katie Lane (Assistant Choreographer, Assistant to Producer) is thrilled to be working on another R2P show after assisting on Honk! and Footloose last season. This summer, she held R2P's first ever series of dance workshops, including a week-long dance intensive. Aside from choreography, Katie is so excited to be running around with R2P this summer as an intern! Katie is a Dance Theatre major at Skidmore College. Kelci Fargnoli-Peterson (Mission Band) is having so much fun in her 6th R2P production. This is her 19th show! She could never do these shows without her friends and family in the car, by her side, in the audience, and giving her so much support. Her favorite shows include Peter Pan and Wendy (Peter Pan), The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Hilda), Alice in Wonderland (Alice), Pirates of Penzance (Isabel), Cinderella (Stepmother), and Willy Wonka (Grandma Georgina). She was most recently seen in R2P's Spring Showcase. Enjoy the show! Mason Kaiser (Mission Band/Cop) was in Guys and Dolls a very long time ago and would love to do it again. Other productions he has been in were Dracula (Jonathon Harker)

  • Rossum’s Universal Robots (Marius) and the Mystery of Edwin Drood (ensemble). He would like to thank Joey for a good production. While he isn't stage acting he enjoys making stop motion shorts. Matt Avery (Mission Band/Cop) will enter his sophomore year at Ithaca High School in the fall and is proud to be back on stage with Running to Places. This is his second show with Running to Places, having been seen as “Tommy” in The Music Man. He has also been previously seen at Ithaca High School in Babes in Arms as “Don” and at Boynton in High School Musical as “Coach Bolton”. When he’s not onstage Matt is either singing, drawing, or just chilling. He would like to thank everyone at R2P, from cast members to directors and everyone in between, for all of their hard work and support. Enjoy! Matthew Lowe (Trombone) is a master craftsman of America's classic sinking schooner Class A. He derives the majority of his power from the sea but has decided to take a small portion from the stress and energy of the main floor of the New York Stock Exchange. While having dedicating most of his life to saving marooned pirates he has recently felt the economic downturn as much as the rest of us, and so has resigned himself to playing the trombone as a source of both income and entertainment during his life of graceless folly. Thank you Ra. Max Doolittle (Lighting Designer) is pleased to be making his Running To Places debut. Lighting Design credits include Martha Meets Bharata at Cornell University, Secret Order, First Day, and Speech and Debate at the Kitchen Theatre Company, and Floyd Collins at Ithaca College. Associate and Assistant Design credits include Salome at The Minnesota Opera, Romeo and Juliet at The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, and Promises, Promises at Merry Go Round Playhouse. Upcoming projects: Chicago and Coram Boy at Ithaca College, and The Santaland Diaries and boom at The Kitchen Theatre Company. Natalia Rathbun (Calvina/Mission Band) is excited to be in her third Running to Places production! She has previously been seen in Babes in Arms and AIDA at Ithaca High and was most recently in R2P's 2010 Spring Showcase. Also, watch for her in The Wind in the Willows this fall! In her spare time, Natalia enjoys violin and reading. She'd like to thank friends and family for their support. Enjoy the show! Nicholas Shuhan (Assistant Director/Master Electrician) is thrilled to be back with Running To Places. He recently attended the National Stage Combat Workshop, run by the Society of American Fight Directors, and received training in unarmed combat, rapier and dagger, and broadsword. He is currently a B.A. Drama major at Ithaca College. Nick would like to thank everyone involved in the Running to Places Theatre Company for this wonderful opportunity, and he would like to thank his family for supporting him in his endeavors. Nicole Rossi (Hot Box Doll) will be entering tenth grade in Trumansburg High School. She is participating in her sixth Running to Places show and she is having the time of her life! She would like to thank her family, Sam, and friends for their support throughout this production. She hopes that everyone coming to see the show will enjoy it as much as she does! Nola Booth (Arvide Abernathy) couldn't be happier to be working with R2P once again. She has previously appeared with the company in Once Upon A Mattress (chorus member), and in The Man Who Came To Dinner (Maggie). In the past year, she has also been “Amahl” in Amahl and the Night Visitors, a member of the children's choir in The Little Prince, and “Prospero” in The Tempest. She recently took part in the Viva La Femme fundraiser event, and in less than a month she will be moving into NYU to study at Tisch. She would like to thank her family and the whole cast and crew for their support and love. Rachel Harrington (Mission Band) is a soon-to-be senior in high school and immensely gladdened to be in her 7th R2P show. R2P credits include being a production assistant for the 2009 Spring Showcase, an assistant stage manager for HONK! and Singin' in The Rain, ensemble for Footloose, “Mrs. Paroo” in The Music Man, and “The Chick Singin' Greased Lightnin'” in the 2010 Spring Showcase. Rachel is an avid writer and hopes to either be a free-lance writer or a film director. She loves R2P dearly! Thanks Mum, Da, Erika, Erica, Joey, Todd, Mikey, Gail, and George for being as fantastic as always. Enjoy the show!

  • Rebecca Waldrop (Agatha) is very pleased to have been part of the wonderful cast and crew of Guys and Dolls. She has also had the pleasure of being in Damn Yankees, Once Upon a Mattress, Spring Showcase 2009, and The Music Man with Running to Places in the past. This is her last show with R2P, as she'll be going off to Hobart and William Smith for college in the fall. She would like to thank her wonderful and supportive family, her Mustakeers, Ben and Jenna, and her amazing boyfriend Ethan Alderman. Thank you for coming and enjoy the show! Ricia Weber (ASM/Props Master/ATD) is a junior at Manhattanville College. This is the 17th R2P or R2P affiliated show she has been involved with, and the 5th this summer as she has been an R2P intern. Her most recent show was Viva La Femme, for which she did quite a few things. At school she is a Psychology major who is frequently thought to be a Theater major, due to often being found covered in set paint. Sam Bobertz (Harry the Horse) is excited to be making his Running to Places debut and has enjoyed working with everyone! Sam has performed in several homeschool plays with the Northern Light Learning Center including Wind in the Willows, The Phantom Tollbooth, and Grimm Fairy Tales, all directed by Joey Steinhagen. He has also worked with Jesse Bush of the Hangar Theatre in Perchance to Dream, Little Red Riding Hood, The Power Mutants, and Dinosaur from Planet X. In addition to acting, Sam enjoys soccer, movies, video games, reading, and singing in the shower. Sarah Griggs (Hot Box Doll) is going into her junior year at Newfield High School. She is excited to participate in her 3rd show with R2P, having been a part of the stage management army for Footloose and performing in Showcase in June. This year she was stage manager and choreographer for Newfield’s Willy Wonka. Sarah is on the Armstrong School of Dance competition team. She has also toured as a “Dance Caravan Kid” and danced at Radio City as part of the Rockette Summer Intensive. This summer Sarah has participated in the University of the Arts Pre-College summer dance intensive on scholarship. Thank you to my friends and family that keep me sane. Enjoy the show! Sarah Plotkin (Hot Box Doll): Sarah is so happy to be in her final Running to Places show! Previous shows with R2P include FAME, Once upon a Mattress and The Man Who Came to Dinner, as well as working as Assistant Stage Manager on R2P2's first official production, The Last 5 Years. Her future plans include sky diving and attending Sarah Lawrence College in the fall. She would like to thank R2P for being such a wonderful part of her life these past few years.

  • Sarah Steurer (Sarah Brown) – From her 1st performance, it was inevitable that Sarah would be acting as much as possible. She continued to perform at Candor High School, until after one fateful summer where she performed a show directed by a certain Gail Belokur. That fall, the director encouraged her to audition for Running to Places. This new opportunity opened Sarah up to an amazing experience and network of friends. With help from R2P, Sarah has performed 13 shows in her high school career, some included “Footloose” (Vi Moore), “The Sound of Music” (Maria), and “Beauty and the Beast” (Belle). Thank you Mumsies and Bubby for the support and my R2P family for an amazing 3 years. Sari Koppel (Hot Box Doll/Havana Waitress): Sari is going into her sophomore year at Trumansburg High School and is very excited to be a part of R2P's Guys and Dolls! Some past credits with R2P include the 2010 Spring Showcase, Music Man (Marian), Footloose (Wendy Jo), Honk! (Ida), and many more. When not in a show, Sari is usually singing, dancing, singing, singing, and running Track and Field. Thanks so much to the production team and cast for such an amazing experience and to her voice teacher Sharon Costianes. Enjoy the show! St. John Faulkner (Benny Southstreet) is happy to be in Guys & Dolls, his third Running to Places show. He has most recently been seen as the Press Agent in Babes in Arms at Ithaca High School. His favorite roles include “Jesus” in Godspell, one of the Wickersham Brothers in Seussical, and “Frederic” in The Pirates of Penzance. He has also appeared in other musicals and dramas at Boynton Middle School as well as danced for the Ithaca Ballet. When not on stage, he can be found singing or playing music. He would like to thank everybody in the cast, his family, and his friends. Enjoy the show! Travis Jones (Technical Director) Travis would like to thank Ron Jones, David Faulkner, Bob Steurer, Ricia Weber, Max Doolittle, Gail Belokur, Emily Goodell, Shauna Belokur, Katie Lane, Katarina Andersson, and anyone else who helped him along the way. He would like to say thanks for all the help, encouragement, time, and effort. The show wouldn’t go on without them. Valerie C. Kilmer (Adelaide) recently graduated from Ithaca High School. Valerie is stoked to be in her third show with Running to Places. She has most recently been seen as a cast member of Tin Can Fantasy Factory as well as in Shakespeare in the Basement's The Tempest (Miranda), Running to Places' Spring Showcase (Featured), and in Viva La Femme (ensemble). Valerie spends her spare time appreciating and creating puns. She would like to thank family, friends, but most of all, everyone involved in R2P--I am forever grateful. Wynter LaTorre (Mimi) is really excited. Why? Because this is an amazing and wonderful show. Thanks to everyone who made it possible. Short and sweet. ENJOY! RUNNING TO PLACES STAFF Gail Belokur (Resident Producer and Co-Artistic Director) has worked professionally with young people in the performing arts in Upstate New York for over 20 years. He received his BFA in Acting from Ithaca College. A former Broadway performer, Todd was trained locally and in New York City. His instructional and choreographic genre include ballet, jazz, tap, modern, lyrical, and acrobatic forms of dance. While training and performing in NYC Todd attended the Henry Le Tang and Broadway Center for performing arts. Among his list of accomplishments, Todd is a previous Dance Educators of America Performing Arts Champion, featured dancer for the Miss Black America Pageant, Showcase performer for the Frank Hatchett, Gregory/Maurice Hines Dance Center in Springfield Massachusetts, director/choreographer for The Peace Child Foundation's production of "City of Peace under the mentorship of Shakespeare in the Park creator Arthur Lithgow. Todd was ranked 5th nationally in men's solo baton twirling at Americas Youth on Parade in South Bend Indiana. Todd and his family were recently featured in the National Museum of the American Indian (Smithsonian) IndiVisible exhibit in Washington D.C. Running to Places Theatre Company (R2P) is a nonprofit theatre company for teens that rehearses and performs all over the Tompkins County area. We provide youth with opportunities to participate in all aspects of theatre and the process allows them to create great art, develop important life skills, and make deep connections with teens from every school district in the county. Participation is open to all those in grades 6-12 or the home school equivalent. Rather than impose a strict fee structure for participation, we depend on donations, fundraising, ticket sales, business sponsorships, and grants. R2P was started in 2007 to meet the demand for more theatre opportunities for the talented youth in this area, reduce barriers to participation in the arts, and to build community across the county.
