T oday we celebrate the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. As we listen to the readings we are called to ponder on what it means to be Church, a people of God, a com- munity. In the first reading we are reminded that a community of faith needs laws like any other community. The people weep as Ezra shares the law with them. The questions is are they tears of joy or sadness. Laws help us live in com- munity. Ezra tells the people to rejoice because God has given us laws to follow. Laws also call each of us to responsibility. As Fr. Tom wrote last weekend we are all called to not only hear God’s Word and live it, but also to proclaim it to the world as well. We have a responsibility to point out injus- tice in our world and work to end it. If we don’t are we really Christians and followers of Christ? Jesus and his teaching is the law for us. As one body we live out that law. On Saturday, February 9th St. Agnes School will be having an all school reunion. We are inviting all graduates to join us at 5:00 PM for a Thanks- giving mass at St. Agnes and then everyone who is 21 or older are invited to join us at Chuck’s Tavern on Main Street in Crete. This pop-up reunion is just a chance for St. Agnes graduates to come together and share some food and drink. With 111 years and share some food and drink. With 111 years under their belt, I can only imagine the stories we will hear. You can stop in for as long as you like. Tell your friends and classmates to join you and we look forward to seeing you all at the St. Agnes School Reunion. Things happen when we are away on vacation. This week I returned from vacation and everyone was wondering if I had turned off the heat before I left. The week I left we were having problems with the heat in the church. When we were able to have the repairmen in, it turned out that two of the church units weren’t working. One needed a blower motor replaced and one needed a heat exchanger. They have now been fixed so hopefully this will keep us going for the winter. The blessing is that we had the funds, because of your support and generosity. Thank you. There are two projects on the horizon for St. Kieran. One is a new parish LED sign on Halsted which I already wrote about. The second is replacing some of the fluorescent lights in parts of the church which are not working to increase the light in the church. We are still waiting for a bid on this as well as rebates that would come from ComEd. As I get more information on these projects I will pass it on.
