    The Hawkeyes are one of four schools in the country with seven wins (Ohio State, TCU,and Michigan State). Among those teams, Iowa has the toughest strength of scheduleaccording to Je Sagarin’s college football ra ngs.

    The Hawkeyes are 7-0 for the rst me since 2009, the second me under Kirk Ferentz,and the h me in school history. Iowa is 3-0 in the Big Ten for the third me underFerentz -- 2009 (5-0) and 2002 (8-0).

    Of the 14 undefeated FBS teams, Iowa’s strength of schedule is third behind Utah andLSU.

    Iowa leads the Big Ten with 12 scrimmage plays of 40-plus yards. The Hawkeyes had 12scrimmage plays of 40-plus yards all of last season, and 13 such plays in 2012 and 2013combined.

    Junior QB C.J. Beathard is the rst quarterback in school history to win his rst eightcareer starts. He is 4-0 on the road, 4-0 at home, and 4-0 in the Big Ten.

    For the rst me in program history, Iowa is ranked in the FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll(established prior to 2014). Iowa is ranked No. 13 a er Week 7.

    Iowa has two roads wins over ranked opponents (Wisconsin, Northwestern) for the rstme since 2002 (at No. 12 Penn State, 42-35; at No. 8 Michigan, 34-9). Alabama is the only

    other school with two road wins over ranked opponents this season.

    Junior DB Desmond King leads the Big Ten and ranks second na onally with six intercep -ons. The last Hawkeye to lead the conference in intercep ons was Tyler Sash in 2009 (6).

    Iowa is ranked 12th in the AP Poll. It is the Hawkeyes’ highest appearance in the AP Pollsince being ranked ninth on Sept. 12, 2010.

    NUMBER OF THE WEEK – 3 (and 3) Three di erent Hawkeyes have rushed for over 100 yards in a game this season:Jordan Canzeri (4x), and LeShun Daniels and Akrum Wadley once each. The last methe Hawkeyes had three di erent players rush for over 100 yards in a game in the sameseason was 2005: Albert Young (8x), and Shonn Greene and Damian Sims once each. The Hawkeyes also have three receivers with 100-yard receiving games: MattVandeBerg (1), Tevaun Smith (1), and Jerminic Smith (1). It is the rst me since 1995three di erent Hawkeyes recorded 100-yard receiving games: Tim Dwight (2x), DemoOdems (1), Sco Slutzker (1).

    7-0 AT THE BREAK The Hawkeyes are 7-0 for the rst me since 2009, the second me under Kirk Ferentz,and the h me in school history. The Hawkeyes were 7-0 in 1985, 1922, and 1921. Iowastarted 9-0 in 2009, its best start in school history.Iowa enters its bye week undefeated for the second me under Kirk Ferentz.     MAKING HISTORY For the rst me in school history, Iowa had a di erent running back rush for 200 yardsin consecu ve games (Akrum Wadley at Northwestern and Jordan Canzeri vs. Illinois).Wadley recorded career highs in carries (26), rushing yards (204), and touchdowns (4)against the Wildcats on Oct. 17. Canzeri amassed 256 yards rushing on a school-record43 a empts against the Figh ng Illini. The feat is the rst me an FBS school had two di erent running backs eclipse 200yards rushing in a game since 1996.

    WADLEY NAMED B1G OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK RB Akrum Wadley was named Big Ten Conference O ensive Player of the Week forhis performance in Iowa’s 40-10 win at No. 20 Northwestern.

    Wadley led Iowa’s o ense with 204 rushing yards on 26 a empts. He ed a single-gameIowa record with four rushing touchdowns, becoming the seventh Hawkeye to accomplishthe feat. The 204 rushing yards es as the 14th best single-game total in school historyand established career bests in rushing a empts, yards and touchdowns.

    The Big Ten honor is the second weekly honor for Wadley. He was recognized as BigTen Freshman of the Week on Nov. 3, 2014, a er rushing 15 mes for 106 yards and atouchdown in a 48-7 win over Northwestern in Kinnick Stadium. Wadley is the h Hawkeye to earn weekly honors from the Big Ten in 2015.     FERENTZ MOVES UP IN VICTORIES

    Head coach Kirk Ferentz has 122 wins as a member of the Big Ten Conference, tyingLloyd Carr for eighth in conference history. Ferentz has 71 Big Ten wins, the ninth most inconference history. Only eight coaches rank in the top 10 in both categories: overall wins as a member ofthe Big Ten, and conference wins. The others include Woody Hayes (OSU), Amos AlonzoStagg (CHI), Bo Schembechler (MICH), Hayden Fry (IOWA), Robert Zuppke (ILL), Lloyd Carr(MICH), and Barry Alvarez (WIS). Ferentz also has six bowl wins as a member of the Big Ten, tying Fry and Carr for No.2 all- me. Only Alvarez has more (9).

    WE’LL GO FIRST Iowa received the opening kicko in six of seven games this season, and has outscoredits opponents 36-13 in the rst quarter.

    In 17 seasons as Iowa’s head coach, Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes received theopening kicko in 168-of-207 games (101-67). Iowa has started the game on defense in39-of-207 games under Ferentz (21-18).

    THE FOURTH QUARTER QB C.J. Beathard and the Hawkeyes’ rush defense have dominated the fourth quarterin 2015. Iowa’s rush defense, the No. 2 defense in the conference, has yielded 88 totalrushing yards in the fourth quarter this season. That includes a 55-yard e ort from NorthTexas against Iowa reserves.

    Beathard is 18-of-25 passing for 236 yards and one touchdown. He has also rushednine mes for 28 yards and one touchdown in the fourth quarter this season. He hasengineered game-winning drives in the fourth quarter two mes this season (Iowa Stateand Pi ). He was 4-of-4 for 46 yards and a touchdown against Iowa State, and he rushed

    for 27 yards on three carries to set up K Marshall Koehn’s 57-yard game winning eld goalagainst Pi . In Iowa’s last eight games, including the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl, Beathard’s fourth quarternumbers include 25-of-32 passing for 331 yards and three touchdowns, and 11 carries for66 yards and one touchdown. Beathard did not play in the fourth quarter against NorthTexas.

    IOWA, FLORIDA STATE, AND EVERYONE ELSE Iowa allowed a rushing touchdown for the rst me this season in Week 6 againstIllinois. It is the only rushing touchdown allowed by the Iowa defense this season. FloridaState is the only other team in the country to allow only a single rushing touchdown. TheHawkeyes yield an average of 74.1 rushing yards per game, second best in the Big Ten andfourth na onally.

    Iowa limits its opponents to 2.5 yards per carry (519 yards on 211 a empts), h bestin the country. Iowa has held six of seven opponents to under 100 yards rushing (NorthTexas, 183).

Only Iowa and TCU have ve wins this seasonagainst Power 5 schools. The Hawkeyes opened the conference season with wins at No. 18Wisconsin, vs. Illinois, and at No. 20 Northwestern, and earned two wins against Power 5schools during the nonconference schedule: Iowa State, 31-17, and Pi , 27-24.

    A er Pi ed the game, 24-24, with 0:52 le in the fourth quarter, Iowa DB DesmondKing picked up a squib kick at the 3-yard line and returned it 27 yards to the Iowa 30. QBC.J. Beathard picked up two rushing rst downs to move the ball into Pi territory, anda er a pair of sideline routes to WR Tevaun Smith fell incomplete, Beathard scrambledfor eight yards to the Pi 39-yard line. Iowa then used its nal meout to stop the clockwith two seconds le .On fourth-and-2, Pi called a meout to freeze Koehn. Koehn let a kick sail anyway, but itlanded far short of the goal post. On the next a empt, Dillon Kidd placed a snap from TylerKluver on the Pi 47-yard line, and Koehn split the uprights, giving Iowa its rst walk-o

    FIND THE NFL-ER Since 1999, Kirk Ferentz’s rst year as UI head coach, the Hawkeyes have had a futureNFL player start on the o ensive line in every season.

    In each of the last eight years, an eventual NFL rst-round dra pick started on theo ensive line. Brandon Scher , selected by the Washington Redskins h overall in 2015,was Iowa’s le tackle from 2012-14. Riley Rei , selected 23rd overall by the Detroit Lions in2012, started at le tackle from 2010-11. Bryan Bulaga, selected 23rd overall by the GreenBay Packers in 2010, started at le guard in 2007 before moving to le tackle in 2008-09.

    From 2005-06, Bal more Ravens All-Pro Marshal Yanda shared me at tackle andguard for the Hawkeyes. Mike Elgin, a seventh round selec on of New England, was Iowa’sstar ng center in 2004. Pete McMahon, dra ed by Oakland in 2005, was Iowa’s right guardin 2003. Oakland’s rst round pick in 2004, Robert Gallery, was Iowa’s le tackle from

    2001-03. Eric Steinbach (Cincinna ) started at guard for Iowa from 2000-02, and BruceNelson (Carolina) was a four-year starter from 1999-02. Both players were second rounddra picks in 2003.

    OFFENSIVE-TACKLE-BY-COMMITTEE The Hawkeyes have started four di erent o ensive tackles this season. Three of them-- LT Boone Myers, RT Ike Boe ger, LT Cole Croston -- entered the season with one combinedcareer start (Boe ger started as a second ght end against Wisconsin in 2014). OL SeanWelsh had 13 career starts at le guard before sliding out to right tackle at Northwestern.

    Myers and Boe ger opened the season as starters. Myers was injured in Week 4 andhasn’t returned to ac on.     Myers joined the program as a walk-on and was put on scholarship prior to the 2014season. He saw ac on in four games last season. Boe ger joined the team as a ghtend but was moved to o ensive line in 2013. He saw ac on in seven games as a redshirtfreshman in 2014. Croston joined the team as a walk-on in 2012, and had played primarilyon special teams prior to this season. Daniels was a highly recruited senior at Harding HighSchool in Warren, Ohio.     PAULSENS ARE A FAMILIAR FACE Freshmen Landan and Levi Paulsen are the sixth set of twins to play football at theUniversity of Iowa. Ferentz also

    In his third career start, the Franklin, Tennessee, nativecompleted 15-of-25 passes for 215 yards and three touchdownsas the Hawkeyes scored 21 unanswered points in the second halfto earn the road victory. His 25-yard touchdown pass to junior WRRiley McCarron in the fourth quarter gave the Hawkeyes the leadwith 2:14 le in the game. Beathard also carried the ball a careerhigh 10 mes for 77 yards, showcasing his athle cism on runs of44 and 57 yards in the rst half. He was also named the Big TenConference Co-O ensive Player of the Week. Beathard earned the award over Washington State’s Luke Falk,who completed 47-of-66 passes for 478 yards and four touchdownsin a 37-34 win at Rutgers. Third in the vo ng was Paxton Lynch fromMemphis, who led the Tigers to a 55-23 win at Kansas to snap a19-game losing streak against power- ve teams. Each week during the regular season, eight quarterbacks arerecognized as Manning Quarterbacks of the Week. Sixty-two playersfrom 58 di erent schools were honored during the 2014 season.

    THE DRIVE Iowa put together a 99-yard scoring drive on its secondpossession of the season. It was the Hawkeyes’ first 99-yardtouchdown drive since 2002.     KOEHN EARNS BIG TEN HONOR Senior K Marshall Koehn was named Big Ten Conference SpecialTeams Player of the Week for his performance in Iowa’s 27-24 winover Pi sburgh on Sept. 19.

    The Big Ten honor is the rst for Koehn (6-foot, 200-pounds), asenior from Solon, Iowa (Solon HS). He is one of two Hawkeyes toearn a weekly conference honor this season (QB C.J. Beathard vs.Iowa State). He is the rst Iowa kicker to earn the special teamsaward since Mike Meyer was recognized following a 19-16 doubleover me win at Michigan State in 2012. Koehn delivered the winning margin against Pi sburgh as hebooted a 57-yard eld goal as me expired. The kick ed the KinnickStadium record for longest eld goal (Lee Pistor, Arizona, 1977) andranks as the second longest in Iowa history (58 yards, Tim Douglasat Illinois, 1998). With a 52-yard kick in the 24-20 win at Pi sburghin 2014, Koehn now has two of the nine longest eld goals in Iowahistory. It was the rst walk-o eld goal for Iowa football sinceRob Houghtlin connected from 41 yards to win the 1986 HolidayBowl.

    KING EARNS TWO WEEKLY HONORS Junior DB Desmond King was named Big Ten Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Iowa’s 10-6win at Wisconsin on Oct. 3. He was also named the Jim Thorpena onal Player of the Week. The Big Ten honor is the second for King. He was namedFreshman of the Week on Oct. 21, 2013, a er recording 12 tacklesin a 34-24 loss at No. 3 Ohio State. King led Iowa’s defensive e ort in the win at Wisconsin as theHawkeye defense held the Badgers to two eld goals in snappingWisconsin’s 10-game home winning streak. King’s rst intercep on,and 15-yard return, led to the only touchdown in the game as Iowatook a 7-3 advantage. He recorded his second intercep on at theIowa 11-yard line to stop Wisconsin’s opening drive of the thirdquarter.

    King also had ve solo tackles, four assists and two pass break-ups against the Badgers. On special teams, King had three kickreturns for 65 yards.

    CANZERI EARNS CONFERENCE HONOR RB Jordan Canzeri was named Big Ten Conference O ensivePlayer of the Week for his performance in Iowa’s 29-20 win overIllinois. The Big Ten honor was the rst for Canzeri. Canzeri led Iowa’s offense with 256 rushing yards on 43a empts. He also had two recep ons for 15 yards. He scored

    twice, including a 17-yard recep on in the second quarter and a75-yard run in the third period. Canzeri was at his best in the fourth quarter against Illinois,rushing on 11 consecu ve plays for 59 yards. Iowa used 6:53 ofthe quarter to set up a Marshall Koehn eld goal a er Illinois pulledwithin 23-20. Following a fumble recovery, Canzeri added threeaddi onal rushing a empts before Koehn sealed the victory withhis third eld goal of the game. Canzeri established an Iowa record for rushing a empts in agame, passing the previous mark of 42, which was held by SedrickShaw (at Michigan State, 1995). The 256 rushing yards ranks thirdbest for a single game at Iowa.

    JOE MOORE AWARD COMES KNOCKING Iowa’s o ensive line earned a “Game Ball” from the Joe MooreAward following wins at Iowa State and against Pi . The Joe MooreFounda on for Teamwork honors the most notable performanceseach week by o ensive line units. At Iowa State, Iowa’s o ense rushed for 260 yards, averaging5.8 yards per rushing a empt.
