Notice on the Second International Academic Conference on Brucellosis

Dear experts and scholars, In order to implement the concept of “one world, one health” and promote the global exchange and cooperation on

brucellosis diagnosis and prevention and control technology research, the National/OIE Reference Laboratory for Brucellosis, Chinese Institute of Veterinary Drug Control (IVDC), will hold the second International Academic Conference on Brucellosis in Beijing, from October 19 to 20, 2020.

The conference will be an international academic exchange platform where leading experts of brucellosis discuss hot topics, difficulties, and critical technologies to contribute wisdom and experience to the global control and eradication of brucellosis as soon as possible

1. The global epidemic trend of brucellosis; 2. The latest research progress of diagnostic techniques for brucellosis; 3. Etiology, virulence study and pathogenic mechanism of brucellosis; 4. Michael GilsdorfDr. Gilsdorf, received his degree of Doctor ofVeterinary Medicine (DVM) from Kansas StateUniversity in 1974. From 1974 to 2007, Dr.Gilsdorf had worked for 33 years for the UnitedStates Department of Agriculture (USDA),

Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service’s VeterinaryServices (VS). He worked in different positions on national andinternational animal health at the USDA. Before he retired, hewas the Director of all Domestic Animal Health Programs for VS.Since 2007, he has worked as a veterinary consultant innumerous countries advising government officials, veterinarians,and livestock producers on methods to eradicate brucellosis andtuberculosis from cattle.

Hai JiangDr. Hai Jiang，Professor and Deputy Directorfrom the Department of Brucellosis, NationalInstitute for Communicable Disease Control andPrevention, Chinese Center for Disease Controland Prevention. Dr. Jiang is a member and

Secretary of the Scientific Commission of Brucellosis, ChinaEndemic Diseases Association; Member of the ScientificDevelopment and Consultation Committee of China Society forMicrobiology; Member of the Scientific Commission ofEcological Health and Human Ecology, the ProfessionalCommittee of Biomarkers, China Research Hospital Association.Dr. Jiang engaged mainly in prevention and control ofbrucellosis nationwide, including national standards, emergencyplans, control guidelines and surveillance programs. His workfocuses on the etiology, epidemiology, molecular diagnosis andbio-informatics applied for brucellosis control. A number ofnational key projects were undertaken by Dr. Jiang, such as the“973”, “863”, National Natural Science Foundation andEmerging Infectious Diseases (EID) program between China andthe U.S. He has published more than 20 peer-reviewed scientificpapers, and awarded four national patents.

Monaya EkgatatProf. Monaya Ekgatat, Doctor of VeterinaryMedicine, Brucellosis advisor for Department ofLivestock, Development of National Institute ofAnimal Health (Niah) of Thailand. Prof. Ekgatatis an OIE expert for brucellosis. She has rich

experience and achievements in molecular epidemiology,pathogenesis, clinical infection and prevention and controltechnology of brucellosis. She has won many national awards inthe field of brucellosis in Thailand.

Shengqing YuDr. Shengqing Yu obtained Ph.D degree in2002 in Japan, majoring in PreventiveVeterinary Medicine with emphasis on theresearch on pathogenesis of Newcastle DiseaseVirus. Afterward, Dr. Yu had worked as a

Post-doctoral Fellow at the National Institute of Health (NIH)and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, USA, from 2003 to 2008.Since 2008, Dr. Yu has been employed as a professor at ShanghaiVeterinary Research Institute, Chinese Academy of AgriculturalSciences, China. Dr. Yu is now leading a research team workingon bacterial pathogenesis and vaccine development, mainly onpoultry bacterial pathogens, including Riemerella anatipestifer,avian pathogenic E. coli and salmonella, and Brucella abortus.Dr. Yu’s team has published more than 50 scientific papers inpeer-reviewed international journals.

Qingmin WuDr. Qingmin Wu is a full Professor at Collegeof Veterinary Medicine, China AgriculturalUniversity, who has been professionallyfocusing on Brucella pathogenesis, as well asprevention and control of cattle and sheepbrucellosis. His team mainly explored

Brucella survival and distribution in animals/herd, optimizationand innovation of the attenuated vaccines, differentiation ofinfected and vaccinated animal (DIVA), and the novelanti-brucellosis agents in the decades. Some techniques andproducts were approved at home and abroad, such as theinnovative vaccine was permitted to be produced in threedomestic enterprises. In 2018, the novel vaccine he developedwas selected as one of the ten best vaccines in the World, andwon the brucellosis vaccine prize awarded by the GlobalAlliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicines funded by acollaborative multi-donor initiative between the Australian,Canadian, UK and US governments and Bill & Melinda GatesFoundation and the World Bank. In recent years, the team haspublished more than 50 papers in related technical fields andobtained many national invention patents.

Liangquan ZhuDr. Liangquan Zhu, Professor, Core expert ofOIE/National Reference Laboratory forBrucellosis. Dr. Zhu is mainly engaged in theetiology, diagnosis technology, comprehensiveprevention and control of animal zoonotic

diseases (brucellosis, bovine tuberculosis, etc.). He awarded 10national patents of invention. As the chief expert, Dr. Zhu hasamended national and agricultural industry standards, hepublished more than 60 peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Zhu acts asthe editorial board member for the journal of Insight-VeterinaryScience， he is the reviewer of FEBS Journal, BiotechnologyBulletin and Chinese Journal of Veterinary Medicine.

Hongjun YangHongjun Yang, professor of Dairy CowResearch Center in Shandong Academy ofAgricultural Sciences and the director ofDairy Cow Diseases Prevention and ControlLaboratory. He engaged in the field of dairy

cow disease research as one of post scientists in the Dairy CowDisease Control Laboratory of China Dairy Cow IndustryTechnology Research System. He has successively undertakenthe National "863" Program of China and the National Key R&DPlan Sub-projects. He won the first prize for China AgriculturalScience and Technology Award in 2016 and the second prize forShandong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award in2015. He obtained 3 provincial local standards and 4 authorizedpatents, and published above 50 papers. Based on scientificresearch, he was devoted to the dairy industry on the front line,and established a “Dairy 120” platform to providing the accurate,rapid and objective disease detection service for more than 120dairy herds in 22 provinces of China.

Weixing ShaoDr. Weixing Shao is a senior scientist andprincipal investigator of National AnimalBrucellosis Para-reference Laboratory. He hasbeen engaged in the research of international

animal health standards, livestock diseases and animalbrucellosis. Dr. Shao has presided over / participated in 22programs for drafting and revising of national and industrialanimal health standards. He obtained 2 provincial and nationalawards in research progress, possessed 3 certified patents, edited11 books and published 25 papers.

Jiabo DingProf. Jiabo Ding (Ph.D.), the chief scientist ofNational/OIE animal Brucellosis, hascontributed considerably to the research ofzoonoses especially Brucellosis. Prof. Ding haspublished more than 200 papers in

peer-reviewed journals, and he has 17 patents of inventioncertified and 5 New Veterinary Drug Certificates authorized. Hehas won the honors of "National Agricultural Advanced Worker"and "China Youth Science and Technology Award", and is thethird batch of the national "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" scientificand technological innovation leading talents. Prof. Ding is amember of the Chinese Veterinary Pharmacopoeia Committeeand Executive Director of the China Society for Microbiology.

Menachem BanaiProf. Menachem Banai, Israel, Ph.D. inMicrobiology at The Hebrew University,Postdoctoral position at The National Instituteof Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NationalInstitute of Health, Maryland, U.S.A. He was

the head of the National Brucellosis Center, Department ofBacteriology, Brucellosis section, Kimron Veterinary Institutesince 1986. He was the head of the OIE and FAO ReferenceLaboratory for Brucellosis since 1995, and was included inEuropean Food Safety Authority (EFSA's) expert database since2009. He was a lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences atHebrew University, Israel, on General Microbiology andBrucellosis since 1994. Over 40 publications were published inpeer-reviewed journals, such as Front. Cell. Inf. Microbio, Infect.Immun, Vaccine and so on. Allowed 1 patent and 2 registeredcultivars.

Claire PonsartProf. Claire PONSART, France, Ph.D inEpidemiology and Public Health (2000),Diploma in Virology (2008) and Diploma inBacteriology (2009) at Institute Pasteur-University of Paris VII, Habilitation degree of

University of Tours (2016). She was the director of LNCR from2012 to 2014, which is the French National Lab for HealthControls in breeding stock (LNCR, Laboratoire National deContrôle des Reproducteurs, 13 rue Joüet, 94704 Maisons-Alfort,www.lncr.org), and has serving as Head of the BacterialZoonoses Unit (Animal Health Laboratory ANSES) since 2014,and National & EU / OIE / FAO Reference Laboratory forBrucellosis, Leading a lab of 30 persons with competencies inlab diagnostic and reference activities in zoonoses. She haspublished a total of 40 scientific publications, 89 professionalpublications, and more than 200 posters and communications ininternational conferences.

Zheng ZengDr. Zheng Zeng, Senior Agricultural

Technology Extension Researcher, received hisMaster’s degree majoring in PreventiveVeterinary Medicine from Northwest A&FUniversity and Master’s Degree of Science

from Institute of Tropic Medicine in Belgium. He is currently theGeneral Director of Chongqing Animal Disease Prevention andControl Center, and mainly engaged in zoonosis diseaseprevention and control. He is the vice Chairman of ChongqingAnimal Husbandry and Veterinary Society. In recent years, morethan 90 reports have been made at home and abroad. He has wonthe provincial and ministerial first prize twice, the second prizeonce, and the third prize twice, as well as 3 national inventionpatents. He has published more than 40 papers in journals, andalso participated in compiling 2 monographs and 2 translations.

Xinyan ZhangProf. Xinyan Zhang (MPH), Chief

epidemiologist, working in Infectious DiseasePrevention and Control Department of JinzhouCDC of Liaoning Province, has established a

WeChat group of "4-comprehensive communication ofbrucellosis" composed of physicians, veterinarians, brucellosispatients and other members, making a contribution to thecommunication of brucellosis and other zoonoses practitioners.

Dénes Béla

Prof. Dénes Béla, Hungarian, Doctor ofveterinary medicine, Deputy director ofveterinary diagnosis Bureau of Hungarian StateFood Chain Safety Office. Head of the NationalReference Laboratory for Brucellosis at the

Veterinary Diagnostic Directorate of the National Food ChainSafety Office. He is an expert in molecular epidemiology,diagnosis and control technology of brucellosis in Hungary. Hewon the honorary award from Hungary for his outstanding workand great contribution.

Terry FuTerry Fu, a qualified practicing veterinarian,Master of Veterinary Medicine, joined onetraining in USA through dairy exchangeprogram sponsored by the Ohio state university

(2007-2008). He has more than 20 years` experiences on dairyoperations not only worked in Bright dairy, Hui-Shan dairygroup companies, but also employed in Pfizer animal health,IDEXX as a technical manager, now he is a veterinary directorof Fonterra (Beijing) farm management consulting Co., Ltd. Hemainly studied on extension and application of Dairy HerdsImprovement; dairy cow post-calving health, on-site diagnosis,prevention, eradication protocol and management of commondiseases like metabolic disorders related with calving, as well ascontagious diseases on scales operation such as BVD,Brucellosis, MPT etc.; He published 20 papers in journals,cooperated to publish 2 handbooks on qualified milk production& udder health. He won the honor of 1st Top5 outstanding youthveterinary worker (2015), the group he led has won the Red flagteam of Shanghai Farm Bureau, Red flag team of ShanghaiFederation of Trade Union.

Nemanja ZdravkovićDr. Nemanja Zdravković, Serbian, obtained adoctor's degree from the MicrobiologyUniversity of Belgrade, and is currentlyworking in the Department of Bacteriology and

Parasitology of the Veterinary Institute of Serbia. He is also amember of the European national reference laboratory Societyfor Brucella, and has published many high-level articles.

Yongqun HeDr. He is currently a tenured AssociateProfessor in the University of MichiganMedical School in USA. He has been aninvited reviewer for electronic and onsite

reviews of grants submitted to National Natural ScienceFoundation of China (NSFC). Dr. He is a permanent member ofa NIH microbiology grant review study section. Dr. He iscurrently an executive member of the SinoMicro society. Dr.He’s research focuses on microbiology, immunology,vaccinology, and bioinformatics. He has performed 20 years ofintensive research on zoonotic brucellosis including Brucellapathogenesis, and Brucella vaccine development. He establishedthe first vaccine design web platform based on reversevaccinology. He has published over 100 scientific papers inpeer-reviewed journal.

Hao DongDr. Hao Dong presides over a project of NationalNatural Science Foundation of China (No.31602055) and participates in one project of TheNational Key Research and Development

Program of China. He has published a total of 12 papers ininternational peer–reviewed journals, including Frontiers inMicrobiology, Veterinary Microbiology, Scientific Reports, etc.In addition, he published more than 40 papers in Chinese corejournals.

Jian WangProf. Jian Wang (Ph.D.), Director of theDiagnostic Center of Shanghai Animal DiseaseControl Center, has contributed considerably tothe research on the prevention, control and

eradication of important zoonotic diseases such as bovinebrucellosis and tuberculosis. Prof. Wang has published more than100 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and he has 14 patents ofinvention and 1 New Veterinary Drug Certificates authorized. Hehas won the honors of "Shanghai May 1st Labor Medal" and"Shanghai Youth Job Expert", and is Shanghai AgriculturalAcademic leading talents. He is also deputy director of theShanghai Dairy Association Expert Committee.

Zeliang ChenDr. Zeliang Chen, a Distinguished Professorworking at Shenyang Agricultural University. Heis also a Distinguished Professor of LiaoningProvince and chief scientific consultant of the

Brucella Innovation Team of Xinjiang Tiankang BiotechnologyCo., Ltd. Dr. Chen is currently a member of the Society ofEndemic Diseases of the Chinese Medical Association,Analytical Microbiology Branch of the Microbiology Society ofChina, Executive Member of the Liaoning Provincial AnimalHusbandry and Veterinary Society. He has mainly engaged in theprevention and control of brucellosis and related research for 15years, undertaken research projects from National Key Researchand Development Projects, National “863” projects, NationalNatural Science Foundation Projects, National Major Projects ofInfectious Diseases and “973” projects, and published more than70 papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Aihua WangProf. Aihua Wang (Ph.D.), professor andsupervisor of Ph.D students at the College ofVeterinary Medicine, Northwest A&F University,mainly engaged in research, teaching, promotionand social services in the field of veterinary

microbiology and immunology, prevention and control of animalepidemics. She has contributed considerably to the research ofmechanism and prevention and control of Brucellosis infection,and responsible for setting Shaanxi provincial standards of“Technical Regulations for Prevention and Control ofBrucellosis in Goats”. She has presided over/participated in 15national and provincial scientific research projects, publishedmore than 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals, obtained anational invention patent, and applied for another 4 patents,published one textbook on microbiology. Prof. Wang is alsomember of the Chinese veterinary microbiology professionalcommittee and teaching group, Life member of The Chinesesociety of microbiology, and the Chinese society of immunologyand the Shaanxi immunology society, etal.

Liping HuLiping Hu, researcher of Shandong AnimalDisease Prevention and Control Center, JointProfessor and graduate student supervisor ofShandong Agricultural University, second

supervisor of master students of Huazhong AgriculturalUniversity, stands member of the first academic committee of theNational Animal Brucellosis Reference Laboratory, and isShandong Animal Vice Chairman of the Professional Committeeof Biological Products and Animal Drugs. She is mainlyresponsible for the prevention, control and purification of majorzoonotic diseases such as Brucellosis and Tuberculosis inShandong Province, as well as the demonstration and promotionof new technologies.She has won 5 provincial and municipalscience and technology progress awards, 4 of provincial harvestawards, more than 20 authorized patents of invention, completed7 local standards and published more than 40 professional papers.She has cumulatively trained more than 6,000 professional andtechnical personnel, established a total of 128 provincialbrucellosis purification sites and four purification areas.

Kairong MaoProf. Kairong Mao is member of the NationalAnimal Epidemic Prevention Expert Committeeand Chinese Veterinary Pharmacopoeia. He hasbeen working on Zoonosis such as Brucellosis

and Bovine Tuberculosis, and Quality Testing of VeterinaryBiological Products, as well as veterinary drug inspection. Prof.Mao obtained 4 New Veterinary Drug Certificates and 4authorized patients, and has more than 80 publications. He washonored as the “National Excellent Individual for Prevention andControl of Endemic Diseases” by Ministry of Health, NationalEconomy and Trade Committee, Ministry of Agriculture,Ministry of Water Resources. Prof. Mao received honor of“National Excellent Individual in Veterinary Drug Inspection” ofMOA, China.

Rongmeng JiangChief Physician, Beijing Ditan Hospital(Beijing Special Hospital for InfectiousDiseases, affiliated to Capital MedicalUniversity). Member of the National AdvisoryCommittee on Infectious Diseases, National

Health Commission (Former Ministry of Health) Member ofNational Expert Group of Covid-19, National HealthCommission (Former Ministry of Health). After graduation fromthe Health Science Center of Peking University (Former BeijingMedical University) in 1995, Dr. Jiang has been engaged in theclinical diagnosis and treatment, teaching, training and researchof infectious diseases.As a clinical expert, Dr. Jiang has providedon-site guidance on medical treatment of major and suddeninfectious diseases such as new coronavirus pneumonia, avianinfluenza, pneumonic plague, Ebola and SARS in China, SierraLeone, Madagascar and many other places. Dr. Jiang hasparticipated in the development of National DiagnosticStandards and Prevention Programs of the National HealthCommission, such as Covid-19, Plague, Influenza, Middle EastRespiratory Syndrome (MERS), and Ebola virus disease (Ebola),etc.

technical assistance to national human brucellosis program, shededicates her time to the research of spatial epidemiology andimpact of human brucellosis on the public.
