In the first reading, Peter announces the answer in one word: “Repent!” There is that challenging word— the word we might associate with Lent, not with Easter. If we do so, we miss the point of following the Shepherd, for to follow him means to be like him. It means: “Repent! Stop taking advantage of other people. Open your minds and hearts to newcomers. Respect those who observe different religious traditions. Help those less fortunate than you.” All of this is captured in the final words of the Gospel reading: do what you can so that all “might have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). Matters of Life and Death

Sheep are a lot smarter than some people think.

They recognize the voice of their particular shepherd

death matter. In both, unquestioning obedience is

required, and absolute trust in the other is presumed.

That’s what Jesus is describing. He’s suggesting:

“Listen to me. Follow my lead. Trust in me. I want

only what is good for you, so I will be your sure

protection.”

It sounds so easy, as parables and metaphors usually do. What does it mean to follow this Shepherd? In

YOUR PARISH NEEDS YOU In this time when people are not coming to the

church for Masses and other activities, we still

need your generosity to continue paying the bills,

providing services, and paying the staff of our

Parish. Some people have been asking how they

can continue to give the weekly offering

(envelop or direct deposit).

You can continue supporting our parish by

dropping your offering envelope into the mail

slot at the parish office or mailing it in. We are

arranging for direct deposit as an alternative way

of giving. Details on how to do this will be

coming soon.

We are very grateful to those who have dropped

off or mailed in their weekly collection to the

parish and to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Your generosity is very much appreciated and it

shows that St. Teresa's has a meaningful place

in your heart.

Personal Prayer

As per the letter from the Archbishop

dated March 27, 2020, (letter is on parish

website) all churches are to remain

closed until further notice with no

personal prayer in the church.

LET’S PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER ~ One of the most important things we can do for

one another in times of difficulty is pray for one

another. The Redemptorists continue to celebrate

daily Mass, and to broadcast it on YouTube. You

can join us on YouTube. If you have people or

situations that you would like us to pray for, just

send them to Fr. Ciro by e-mail at

[email protected]. Your intercessions will be

placed in a special prayer box before the altar and

we will pray for the intention every day!

Dear Padre,

How will it happen that Jesus will come again

and lead us “through the gates”? We have it from the best of authorities that the

date of the world’s end is hidden. Jesus said, “But

of that day and hour no one knows… but the

Father alone” (Matthew 24:36). In spite of

Christ’s admonition that the day of his Second

Coming is known but to God, there have been

countless false prophets who have confidently but

incorrectly predicted a date for the end of the

world. Most of these foolish forecasters based

their claims on misinterpretations of the Book of

Revelation.

The main purpose of the Book of Revelation is to

assure us that God’s power will prevail. In the

ongoing struggle between good and evil, there are

times when evil seems to have the upper hand. No

matter. Evil will be conquered and God’s rule will

extend over all creation.

The world might end tomorrow, or next year, or in

five billion years. Jesus tells us we can’t know for

sure. We are sure, however, that this world will

pass away. And for each one of us the world will

end at the moment of death. What matters is that

we should always be ready to meet Christ.

And we shall be ready if we follow Christ, our

Shepherd, whom we meet in today’s Gospel.

Jesus leads us safely through this life by his

teaching, his example, and his grace. Fr. Oscar Lukefahr, CM, Liguori Publications

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Greetings and prayers from my heart to all of you in this

challenging time!

As we are reflecting and praying in the liturgy in this new time, the word of God in these days is

inviting us to face many challenges in our lives. These challenges are happening at all levels of our

lives, and they sometimes shock, break, or stress us. But they can also open our minds and hearts to

understand and perceive life in other ways. I would like to invite you to reflect about one of these

challenges that we are facing at the level of our faith: How might we look for new ways to celebrate

and live the liturgy when we are neither physically present, nor receiving communion, nor feeling the

closeness of others.

I have been researching how other parishes are dealing with this new reality, and today I would like to

share with you some thoughts of Fr Felix Just, SJ who serves at a parish in San Francisco, California. I

think these are things that we can also implement for our own Sunday masses during this time of

restrictions due to the pandemic. We are recording our Sunday masses in the rectory chapel and

posting them on YouTube.

To prepare for the YouTube masses, Fr Felix suggests:

Be in contact (email, WhatsApp, zoom, phone…) with some family members or friends to

watch and participate in the mass at the same time.

Make a special “sacred place” in your homes -- maybe with a cross, candles, flowers, icons, or

other symbols -- where you will gather for the Eucharist.

Have a Bible or Sunday Missal handy where you can see the readings ahead of time.

Greet the people with whom you are gathering virtually by means of a text message, or chat

for a few minutes before you start the YouTube video.

During the liturgy you might:

Join in the singing and make the responses out loud.

Feel the connection with the presider as you listen to the Word of God proclaimed and hear

the homily. (You might want to follow along with the readings from your missal.)

Answer the prayers of the faithful aloud with the response: Lord hear our prayer… and add

your own intentions aloud when the priest invites that and leaves time for it.

At the beginning of the offertory, or at the time of the rite of peace send a text to those who

are celebrating with you virtually.

At communion time, pray together and aloud the Act of Spiritual Communion which is on the

screen.

After the mass:

Spend some time chatting with the family and/or friends with whom you have celebrated

together, and share a snack with those who are physically present.

Finally I want to continue encouraging you to be patient, faithful, and open to hear God’s voice in all

the challenges, and also help your family and friend to do the same. Many blessings from the

Redemptorist community and the parish staff.

Stay safe,

In Christ,

Fr. Ciro Perez C.Ss.R.
