    Advisory Committee on OIF/OEFVeterans and Families; Notice ofMeeting

    The Department of Veterans Affairs(VA) gives notice under Public Law 92463 (Federal Advisory Committee Act)that the Advisory Committee on OIF/OEF Veterans and Families will conducta meeting and a site visit in the PaloAlto, California area on September 1618, 2008. Committee activities willinclude tours and briefings at variousVA facilities.

    The purpose of the Committee is toadvise the Secretary of Veterans Affairson the full spectrum of health care,

    benefits delivery and related familysupport issues that confront servicemembers during their transition fromactive duty to veteran status and duringtheir post-service years. The Committeewill focus on the concerns of all menand women with active military servicein Operation Iraqi Freedom and/orOperation Enduring Freedom, but willpay particular attention to severelydisabled veterans and their families.

    The agenda for the September 1618meeting will include briefings on recentsite visits, discussions on proposed

    recommendations to the Department ofVeterans Affairs (VA), and tours of theVA Medical Center. The Committee willdiscuss its findings and observations

    based on previous Committee meetings,site visits, written reports, and personalexperiences.

    On Tuesday, September 16, from 9a.m. until 12 noon, the Committee willmeet at The Cabana Hotel Palo Alto,4290 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA. Inthe afternoon, the Committee will meetat the Palo Alto VA Medical Center, tourthe facility and receive briefings fromstaff.

    On Wednesday, September 17, from 9a.m. to 12 noon, the Committee willmeet in closed session. The Committeewill be meeting with clinicians andindividual patients receiving services atVAs Menlo Park facility. The sessionwill be closed to protect the privacy ofthe patients and to minimize possibleinterference with the delivery ofmedical services. Closing the meeting isin compliance with 5 U.S.C. Sec552b(c)(6). In the afternoon, from 2p.m.5 p.m., the Committee will meet inopen session at The Cabana Hotel PaloAlto, 4290 El Camino Real, Palo Alto,CA.

    On Thursday, September 18, from 9a.m. to 4 p.m., the Committee will meetin open session at The Cabana HotelPalo Alto, 4290 El Camino Real, PaloAlto, CA.

    The meeting will include timereserved for public comments.Individuals wishing to make oralstatements must pre-register not laterthan September 10, 2008 by contactingSyreeta Cherry via e-mail [email protected], and bysubmitting 12 page summaries of theirstatements for inclusion in the officialrecord of the meeting. Oral statements

    by the public will be limited to fiveminutes each and will be received at 3p.m.3:30 p.m. on September 17, and 1p.m.1:30 p.m. on September 18.Interested individuals may also submitwritten statements for the Committeesreview to the Advisory Committee onOIF/OEF Veterans and Families (008),Department of Veterans Affairs, 810Vermont Avenue, NW., Washington, DC20420.
