agreed to meet the cost of production. Money from any sales can simply be banked with weekly offerings, as long as it is clearly

shown on the deposit report.

Trinity Uniting Church Anglesea (turn off Camp Rd just before the hotel, and go to end of road)

A ‘Back to Church Sunday’ provides a congregation with an intentional opportunity to invite friends, relatives and neighbours

who used to come to church, or perhaps never did, using word of mouth  and printed invitations. It will only succeed if each person does their part with invitations, being supportive, welcoming and

warm, without being pushy or pointing out that the person/people are not usually present. A special meal or morning tea will add to

the welcome and give people a chance to engage in friendly conversation. It is usually advertised on public notice boards and in

local papers too. The service itself should be very similar to the usual one for that congregation (we are not ‘selling’ false

merchandise) but being careful not to use jargon or‘preach at’ any visitors.

Intransigent cruelty can never be justified

Sitting in front of the TV in the evening, cup of coffee in hand, we watched a doctor who has recently served in the detention centre on Nauru tell of his experience (“7.30”, ABC TV, 30/10).

He explained the degree to which the Australian government actively prevented him from offering basic humane medical care to asylum seekers on Nauru.

There is no credible moral, ethical or political justification for the way in which the Australian government is managing offshore detention centres. We are outraged at what this government is doing in our name. We are ashamed at the inhumanity and intransigent cruelty being perpetrated by our government.

We demand they consider what compassionate policy and international treaties require of them as elected representatives of the Australian people.
