    The maximum age prescribed is 25 years as on 1st July 2013.

    5. FOREIGN NATIONAL STUDENTS

    1. International students are exempted from the requirement of admission test (CAT/DAT)for the academic programmes of the University. They can apply either on self financingbasis or through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) attached to the Ministryof External Affairs, Govt. of India. They are required to submit the application through onlinefor the academic programme of the University on payment ofUS$ 100 by way of DemandDraft / Pay order/Any other instrument (which does not involve collection charges on thepart of the University) in favour ofRegistrar, CUSAT. Det ails are available in the Prospectuspublished in the website.

    2. Applicants who have successfully registered online with CUSAT may forward an advancecopy of the confirmation page along with payment of registration fee (D.D/Pay Order) andrelevant documents to the following address. The original confirmation page should beforwarded with necessary documents through the Embassy of India in the respective country.

    6. IMPORTANT POINTS AT A GLANCE

    1. All Candidates applyi ng for Common Admission Test 2013 (CAT 2013) should submittheir applications through on-line. International candidates and those applying for theB.Tech Lateral Entry programme (Diploma-holders)/MBA/M.Tech.should also submit theirapplications through on-line. Candidates for PhD//M Phil/ MA Translation-German & Russian

    / Dipl oma/Certificat e programmes need not submit onl ine appli cation f orm. They can obtai nthe printed application from the concerned Departments by paying the required applicationfee through Demand Draft, drawn in favour of Registrar, CUSATpayable at Ernakulam onrequest either by post or directly.

    2 For MBA programme the selection is based on C-MAT score of AICTE,GD and intervi ewof CUSAT. Those who wish to apply for Management programmes should compulsorilyregister for the same through on-line along with other programmes of CAT 2013. There isno CAT test for Management programmes from this year onwards.

    3.Mode of payment of application fee for online submission: By cash payment at SBI orSBT bank using the chalan that can be downloaded during online filling of applications.After the payment, re-login and enter the payment details. Candidates who have opted testcentre at Dubai should remit an additional amount of Rs.10,000/-by Demand Draft in favourof Registrar, CUSAT payable at Cochin and send to The Director, IRAA Unit, CUSAT,Kochi 682022 along with a copy of the application print out before the last date prescribed.

    4. Mode of payment for DAT application: By Demand Draft (DD) forrequired amount drawnin favour of Registrar, CUSATpayable at Cochin,issued by SBT or SBI ONLY. Candidatesshould write his/her name and Application No. on upper left hand corner of the reverse sideof the DD. The DD should be drawn on or after the date of CAT 2013 Notifi cation.DD drawnafter the last date fixed for the submission of application will not be accepted.

    5. The application fees for various categories:

    ` 950/- for General Category Candidates and` 425/- for SC/ST Category.` 5950/- forcandidates who apply under NRI Quota

    For Diploma & Certificate Programmes - ` 100/- for general category and ` 50/- for SC/ST category.Application fees once remitted will not be refunded in any circumstance.

    7. ALLOCATION OF SEATS

    Of the total seats for B.Tech (Self-Financing) programmes 50% are free seats, 40% arepayment seats and 10% are NRI payment seats. The free seats are earmarked forKeralite students. For B.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Building, Instrumentationand Polymer Science & Engineering 10% of the seats are reserved for students on allIndia basis (All India Quota) and the remaining seats for Keralites. For all regular Post-Graduate Programmes including subsidized Post-Graduate programmes like M.C.A.,

    M.B.A. (International Business), and 5 year Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics programme10% of the seats are set apart for students on all India basis (All India Quota) and theremaining for Keralites. For Post-Graduate programmes under Self-Financing sector 50%of the seats are given for Keralites, 10% for NRIs and the remaining 40% open to all.

    A candidate will be considered as a Keralite for the limited purpose of eligibility foradmission, if

    a) He/she or his/her father/mother was born in KeralaOR

    b) He/she has been a resident of Kerala for a period of 5 years within a period of 12 yearsOR

    c) He/she has undergone his/her school studies from standards VIII to XII in educationalinstitution(s) in Kerala OR

    d) Children of All India Service (AIS) Officers (Non Keralites) allotted to Kerala circle aredeemed to be Keralites [GO (Rt) No.822/H.Edn dated 29.05.2008]. But they will not beeligible for Communal/Special Reservations.

    Rules for communal reservation framed by the Government of Kerala and implemented inthe University from time to time will be applicable to the various academic programmes.Besides communal reservation, specified number of seats are set apart under SpecialReservation.     8. GENERAL INFORMATION

    1. M.Tech. Marine Bio-Technology: Selection of candidates is done by Jawaharlal NehruUniversity (JNU) on behalf of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India througha National Test along with all such examinations conducted by the University (JNU) .GATE Score is not considered for admission. For details visit www.jnu.ac.in andwww.ncaah.org .

    2. M.Sc Degree Course in Biopolymer Science: Conducted by CIPET in collaborationwith CUSAT. Test for the programme is done by CUSAT on behalf of the CIPET.

    3. Application forms for programmes listed under 3.1 and 3.2 are available from thedepartments / schools as indicated below.

    3.1 and 3.2a to 3.2d: The Head, Department of English and Foreign Language, CUSAT,

    Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to the various academicprogrammes of the University for the year 2013-14 as listed below. Admission to variouscourses are based on Common Admission Test (CAT)/Departmental Admission Test(DAT)/Test for Lateral Entry (LET) and C-MAT score for MBA. All applicants intending toapply for the academic programmes listed under 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2 and 4 are required tosubmit their applications through On-line Registration whereas for programmes listedunder 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 t he application forms can be had from the concernedDepartments/Schools. Eligibility conditions and other particulars are given in theprospectus published in the websites www.cusat.nic.in or www.cusat. ac.in Candi dateswho have appeared/are appearing in full for their final qualifying examinations are alsoeligible to apply; but in the case of the students appearing for compartmental/improvementexaminations this provision is not applicable and they should submit their qualifyingdegree certificate at the time of counseling/admission whichever is earlier. All UGCspecified degrees, diplomas etc. awarded by UGC approved Statutory Universities arerecognized by this University for admission to various courses. However, distanceeducation programmes other than that of IGNOU will not be considered.

    For First Degree Programmes (B.Tech. and 5 year Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics), theCAT will be conducted on All-India basis with test centres in New Delhi, Kolkata,Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jamshedpur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Ranchi,Varanasi, Kota, Dubai and in all the district head quarters of Kerala. For all otherprogrammes except3 year LLB/Lateral entry programmes, the test will be conducted atspecified district head quarters within the state of Kerala onlyFor3 year LLB and Lateral entry programmes, the admission tests will be conducted at

    Ernakulam center onlyTheDATs are conducted in the University campus by the individual Departments/ Schools/Centres of the University. The dates of these tests will be announced separately by theindividual departments.The University reserves the right to cancel/ shift/ merge all or any of the notified testcentres,(due to lack of sufficient number of candidate) dates/rules and regulations relatingto programmes of study, eligibility, reservation, admission criteria, fee structure andother relevant matters for administrat ive reasons. All disputes related to CAT shall besubject to the jurisdiction of Courts at Kochi only. Appearance in the CAT or figuring inthe Rank List does not ipso facto confer any right for admission to a particular courseunless found suitable as per the eligibility criteria as amended from time to time.

    1. ADMISSIONS THROUGH CAT

    H. 5 Year B.Com.LL.B (Hons) (Cost sharing)

    Eligibility criteria:

    For item A, B & C: Pass in plus-two examination of the state of Kerala with mathematics,physics and chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted asequivalent thereto securing a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics and 50% marksin mathematics, physics and chemistry put together

    For item D: Pass in plus-two examination of the state of Kerala with mathematics,physics and chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as

    equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 60% marks in mathematics, physics andchemistry put together, with at least 55% in mathematics separately.

    For item E :

    1. Pass in p lus- two or equivalent examinat ion with physics, chemist ry ,mathematics and english as separate subjects with a PCM average of notless than 60% marks & minimum 50% for mathematics and should haveobtained 50% marks in english at 10th or 12th standards. This is applicableto the SC/ST candidates also.

    2. Vocational/Diploma students are not eligible to apply.

    3. The Maximum age limit prescribed is 25 years as on 1st September of theyear of admission.

    4. Eligibility for admission will be based on directions from the DG Shipping(Govt. of India)

    For item F : Pass in plus-two examination of the state of Kerala or any other examinationaccepted as equivalent thereto with a First Class securing a minimum of 50% marksin mathematics as well as for mathematics, physics and chemistry put together.

    For item G:

    1 Pass in Plus 2 examination with 60% marks in Science / Commerce groupor 55% marks in Arts / Humanities.

    2. Should not have completed 20 years of age on July 1st of the year ofadmission. 22 years in the case of SC / ST and OBC candidates.

    For item H

    1. Pass in Plus 2 examination with 60% marks in Science group or 55% marksin Commerce / Arts / Humanities

    2 Should not have completed 20 years of age in July 1st of the year ofadmission. 22 years in the case of SC / ST and OBC candidates.

    (For students who had taken their 10+2 or degree through distance or correspondencemethod are permitted to join the five year course, whereas those who received thecourse completion certificate through Open University Scheme without any basicqualifications, are declared ineligible for admission to this course)

    1.2 POST GRADUATE PROGRAM MES

    Eligibility criteria:

    3 year LLB.

    Passing Degree with not less than 40% marks in the aggragate (35% for SC/ST Cantidate)Permanant employment in any Central/State undertakings or any Public Sectororganisations.

    LL.M.

    Bachelors degree in Law with at least 45% marks.

    M.A. Hindi Language and Literature

    B.A./B.Sc. degree with Hindi as a subject of study with at least 45% marks in Hindi.

    M.B.A. (Full-time )

    Bachelors degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.

    M.B.A. (Part-time )

    i Bachelors degree in any subject with 50% marks in aggregate.ii 50% of the seats are reserved for candidates having 3 years of supervisory

    / exe cutive experience after taking the degree

    iii In the absence of such candidates as mentioned in (ii) vacancies will beoffered to any other candidates satisfying eligibility as per (i).

    M.B.A.(Travel & Tourism)

    Bachelors degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.

    M.B.A.(International Business)

    Bachelors degree in any discipline recognized by the University with 50% marks inaggregate.

    M.A. Applied Economics

    Bachelors degree in Economics with 55% marks in Part III (Economics andSubsidiaries) or 60% marks with B.Com., BBA, BBM with Economics as one of thesubject or B.Sc. Mathematics or Statistics with 65% marks.

    M.C.A.***

    Any graduate with mathematics as one of the main or subsidiary subjects or graduatein Electronics/Computer Science/Computer Applications/Engg./Technology withaggregate 55% marks in all subjects other than Languages and Humanities.

    4. Application forms for programmes listed under 3.3 and 3.4 are available only fromthe respective Departments.

    5. Candidates applying simultaneously for both B.Tech Programmes and Lateral EntryProgrammes through online should remit the required fees specified for eachprogramme.

    6. Entry requirements for each Programme are given under Eligibility Criteria inProspectus. The responsibility for ensuring satisfactory compliance to the prescribedEligibility Criteria is vested solely with the applicant. Claims found untenable uponsubsequent scrutiny shall result in summary disqualification of the applicantconcerned and cancellation of any or all admission processes undergone.

    7. The choice of the Test Subject/Test Centre is the responsibility of the applicantalone and the selection once exercised in the online registration shall be final andirrevocable.

    8. The Distribution of Seats for various courses will be governed by the rules andregulations of the University in force. For details visit University website.

    9. SC/ST candidates are eligible for admission, if they have pass marks in qualifyingexamination except for Marine Engineering.

    9. HOW TO REGISTER ONLINE

    (i) Candidates are advised to read carefully all information published in the web sitehttp://cusat.ac.in or http://cusat.nic.in before submitting online application.

    (ii) The online application submission is a two-stage process.(iii) In the first stage the candidate should furnish correctly all details required in the

    online registration form and upload his/her recent passport size(color) photograph(150 x 200 pixels) and signature (250 x 85 pixels)

    (iv) (Please note that the once the application is confirmed by pressing the CONFIRMbutton, no further changes are possible.)

    (v) Take printout of the chalan form along with the instructions page and makepayment in the bank. (Make sure that the journal number is correctly entered bythe bank in the space provided in the chalan form before leaving the bank). Re-login to the CUSAT website using his/her registration number and date of birth andenter the payment details such as the journal number, bank name, branch name,code and date. Finally press the SUBMIT button to get your application print outwhich can be retained by the candidate.

    (vi) No document in original or copy need to be sent to the University, unless otherwisespecifically requested for.

    (vii) Candidates are requested to check the status ten days after the final submissionof the application.

    (viii) If the application submitted by the candidate is not approved within the time, thecandidate should take necessary action as indicated in the status page.

    (ix) Candidates who have applied for MBA/M.Tech programmes should re-login duringthe period from 15-03-2013 to 30-03-2013 to submit their CMAT/GATE score details,respectively failing which such candidates will be treated as having no validCMAT/ GATE score .

    (x) The candidates can download the admit card for the Common Admission Test fromthe website (http://cusat.nic.in) on or after April 24th, 2013. Admit cards will not besent to the candidates address by post. Candidates must retain the Admit Cardtill the admission process is over. (To be produced wherever demanded)

    (xi) No candidate will be permitted to appear for the Common Admission Test 2013without a valid Admit Card.

    (x ii) Elig ib il i t y cr it eria for each programme are given in the prospectus. Theresponsibility for ensuring satisfactory compliance to the prescribed criteria isvested solely with the applicant. Claims found untenable upon subsequent scrutinyshall result in summary disqualification of the applicant concerned and cancellationof any or all admission processes undergone.

    (xiii ) The choice of the Test Subject/Test Centre is the sole responsibility of the applicantalone and the selections once exercised in the Online Application Form shall befinal and irrevocable. Even if a candidate takes the CAT according to a subject ofhis/her choice, but otherwise does not satisfy the conditions of eligibility prescribed

    in the Notification/Prospectus, he/she will not be considered for admission.(xiv) The candidates are requested to visit the website (http://cusat.nic.in) regularly to

    keep themselves updated.(xv) The register number should be quoted in all communications with the University.(xvi) Claims/Requests for benefits under any reservations (Communal Reservation/

    Special Reservations etc.) other than what is indicated by the candidate in theCAT 2013 online application, will not be considered for counseling/admission.

    (xvii) The University reserves the right to add, delete or amend any of the stipulationsregarding the reservation criteria, eligibility, intake, specialization, type ofprogrammes, rules, regulations, fee structure etc. at any time without any noticeand these will be applicable to the candidates seeking admission.

    (xvii i) Remember, the registration number, date of birth, email id, phone no. etc are vitalinformation to be provided by the candidate which will be required in the laterstages of admission.

    2. M.TECH. PROGRAMMES

    Admissions to the following M.Tech. programmes are based on valid GATE score as prescribedunder the academic regulations specific to each programme. Candidates not possessingGATE may also apply, but will be considered only if GATE qualified candidates are notavailable. In such cases, admissions will be based on the DAT conducted by the respectiveDepartments.

    M. Tech. Atmospheric Science

    1. M.Sc.degree or its equivalent in Meteorology, Oceanography, Mathematics, Physics,and Space Physics with a First Class (60%) marks from any recognized University orInstitution. 2. A valid GATE score or a pass in the Joint UGC CSIR Test (NET) for JRF.

    M. Tech. Computer Aided Structural Analysis & Design

    Bachelors degree of any University recognized by CUSAT and Diploma level knowledgein the language concerned.

    3.2 DI PLOMA /CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES (PART-TIME)

    a. Cer tificate courses in French/German/Japanese/Russian.

    Pass in pre degree / plus two or equivalent thereto of any University recognized byCUSAT . Previous knowledge of the language is not essential.

    b. Integrated Diploma in French/German/Italian/Japanese/ Russian

    3.3 M. Phil. PROGRAMMES (FULL-TIME)

    Candidates seeking admission to the Master of Philosophy degree course should havepassed a Masters degree examination in the concerned subject of any of the Universitiesapproved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or an examination accepted bythe Academic Council as equivalent thereto and have obtained a minimum of 55%aggregate marks (or equivalent grade) in the examination. Candidates who have passedthe Masters degree examination in the Distance/Continuing Education mode are eligiblefor admission only if their degree is awarded by Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU).

    A relaxation of 5% of marks shall be given to the SC/ST candidates. Teachers of aUniversity Department or Colleges recognized by or affiliated to a statutory or DeemedUniversity having not less than three years of teaching experience will also be eligiblefor admission to the course. 50% of the seats of the course shall be reserved forUniversity or College teachers. Priority shall be given to those coming under the FacultyImprovement Programme (FIP) of the UGC or Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) ofAICTE.

    M. Phil. Chemistry, Commerce, Hindi, Physics and Mathematics.

    Masters degree in the concerned subject with at least 55% marks.

    M. Phil. Applied Economics

    Pass in Masters degree examination in the subject concerned of the any of the Universitiesapproved by the UGC or an examination accepted by the Academic Council as equivalentthereto and have obtained a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (or equivalent grade) inthe examination

    M. Phil. Marine Chemistry

    Masters Degree in Hydrochemistry, Chemistry or any other branch of Chemistry with aminimum of 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade.
