JODHPUR/JAIPUR, (IANS) Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi of Rajasthan has issued a death threat to Salman Khan, saying the Bollywood actor will be killed in Jodhpur. "Salman Khan will be killed here, in Jodh- pur... Then he will come to know about our real identity," Bishnoi told media persons while being taken to a Jodhpur court in police secu- rity. Bishnoi was being produced in the court following his arrest on charges of terrorising traders and extorting them. The gangster claimed that he had been framed in false cases and that to date, not even a single witness had deposed in the court to prove the charges. "Now, if police want me to do some major crime, I shall kill Salman Khan and that too in Jodhpur," he added. Bishnoi's death threat to Salman is being linked with the black buck killing case of 1998, in which Salman and his co-actors are accused. It was the Bishnoi community which had brought up the black buck hunting case, and ever since the com- munity considers the Bollywood actor a "villain". However, some onlookers felt that the gangster talked of killing Salman just to create a sensation. On Thursday, the actor appeared in the Jodhpur's Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Rural Cour t in connection with the hearing in the black buck poaching case. Bishoi is a notious gangster and has been charged in over 20 cases of attempt to murder, carjacking, ex- tortion, snatching and under the Arms Act in Punjab-Haryana belt. OMG! "The power you already hold can help make a posi- tive difference to the lives of all living beings and we are therefore writing to respectfully request that you use it now to stop the planned slaughter of goats in your name," PETA's Lead - Public Policy Nikunj Sharma said in a statement. "The plan of your fans to kill goats in a temple is cruel and an apparent violation of Indian laws. SOUTH AFRICA BEAT INDIA BY 72 RUNS IN FIRST TEST CAPE TOWN, (IANS) South Africa bowled out India for 135 in their second innings, registering a 72-run victory on the four th and penultimate day of the opening cricket Test here on Monday. Indian bowlers had given India big hopes after bowling out South Africa for 130 in their second innings, setting a target of 208 to win the match. But the visiting batsmen capitulated, with paceman Veron Philander scalping six wickets. All-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin top-scored for India with 37. Captain Virat Kohli was the second-highest scorer with 28 as the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. It could very well have been 1-0 in favour of the visitors had their batsmen shone like the bowlers did. Resuming from Saturday's total of 65/2 as the third day's play was completely washed out, the hosts failed to get going and could only manage to add 65 runs before losing the final eight wickets. Former skipper AB de Villiers (35) was the lone batsman offering some kind of resistance even as the Indian pacers led by Mohammed Shami (3/28) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/39) took full advantage of the conditions. The tone was set by Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/33) and Shami early on before Bumrah came into his own. Wickets kept falling as the Indian seamers continued their dominance on the four th morning. All-rounder Hardik Pandya (2/27), who grabbed a couple of wickets on the second day, however could not add any more wicket to his kitty. During the Indian chase, local boy Vernon Philander led the Proteas' fightback with the quick dis- missals of skipper Virat Kohli (28) and his deputy Rohit Sharma (10) before Kagiso Rabada joined the party with the wick- ets of Wriddhiman Saha (8) and all- rounder Hardik Pandya (1).

Women should have free access to sanitary napkins: AkshayMUMBAI, (IANS) National Award-winning actor Akshay Kumar, who is addressing the issue ofmenstrual hygiene in his forthcoming film "Pad Man", says women should get sanitary nap-kins for free as it is a basic necessity for them. Asked if the "Toilet: Ek Prem Katha" actor wantsto reach out to the government to cut down on GST rate of sanitary napkins, Akshay told media:"Why just cut down on GST? I think women should have free access to sanitary napkins. Thisis their basic necessity. It is about menstrual hygiene and not luxury." "It is unfor tunate and I amashamed to say that 82 per cent women in this country have no access to sanitary pads andthey are mistreated during those five days of their menstruation period. This is unfortunate," headded. "Pad Man" is a biopic on Arunachalam Muruganantham, the inventor of a low-cost sanitary padmaking machine in India. The subject of "Pad Man" is considered a taboo or a sensitive issue. So what are the elements that he has kept in mind while promoting the film?"Firstly, do not call it a sensitive issue. It is a natural process of a humanbody. It i s time to get rid of those taboos attached to it. It is time to treat the issuematurely. Also from the women's end, they should not shy away from talking aboutthe issue, and certainly should not whisper about it," he said. He feels that theway festivals like Holi and Diwali are celebrated, people should also "cel-ebrate when a girl meets with her puberty"."When you celebrate it, the girl who is already going through a physi-cal and hormonal transition, will feel confident and secure. But we excluded our women from the normalcy of life duringthose five days. So from the first experience, women feelthat period is something they should hide. So you knowwhere we should star t from," he added. Produced byAkshay's wife Twinkle Khanna and directed by R. Balki,"Pad Man" is slated to release on January 26.

Bogged down by the loss of their skipper Joe Root, who had been hospitalisedovernight for gastroenteritis, England were bundled out for a meagre 180 in their second innings, with paceman Pat Cummins claiming4/39. The visitors needed a mammoth effor t to survive the final day, and Root was key to their hopes. However, he didn't resume theday's play, as Moeen Ali walked out with Jonny Bairstow. Ali lasted 43 deliveries before off-spinner Nathan Lyon (3/54) once again gotthe better of him, trapping him in front for 13. Ali's downfall brought back Root to the middle as he fought hard to add the eight runsrequired to post another half -century, with England going in to lunch at 144/5.Root (58), however couldn't return to the crease, and when Bairstow was scalped by Cummins in the third over after play resumed, itwas only a matter of time for the hosts. Bairstow's 143-ball vigil had yielded 38 runs, and his dismissal exposed the tail. Stuar t Broad, who had scored an enterprising 31 in the first innings, fell to Cummins two balls later after skying a bouncer to the big gloves of TimPaine. Then, another Cummins shor t delivery saw to Mason Crane's dismissal. He gloved the ball behind, and though he asked for areview, replays suggested there was significant contact with his thumb. Veteran Jimmy Anderson's was the only wicket left, with thepaceman lasting 23 deliveries before Josh Hazlewood had him caught behind.Tom Cur ran remained unaccompanied on a 40-ball 23, as England crashed to their heaviest defeat to Australia since 1993, when theylost by an innings and 148 runs at Headingley. Pacer Cummins was adjudged Player of the Match for his eight wickets, Aussie skipperSteve Smith was named the Player of the Series for top-scoring with 687 runs.

The Australians rounded off adominant five-match series with an innings and 123-run hammering of the beleaguered tourists on the finalday of the f i f th Sydney Test . Mi tchel l Starc, JohnHazlewood, Pat Cummins and spinner Nathan Lyon allfinished with 20 or more wickets in the series to take87 in total to dominate the England batsmen. Despitethis, Smith was not prepared to rate them higher thanthe quar tet of Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddleand Lyon who bowled Australia to a 5-0 whitewash inthe last Ashes series in Australia in 2013-14. "I thinkall the bowlers did an exceptional job," he told repor t-ers. "Each of our bowlers have over 20 wickets whichshowed that the guys have bowled together as a group, bowled in par tnerships, bowled for one another andhelped us take the 80-odd wickets that we've needed totake four Test matches." But he stopped of declaringthem a better bowling unit than their predecessors fouryears ago. "I think they are all great bowlers. I can't putany of them ahead of each other," he said. "I think bothattacks were outstanding and got the job done. I can't sayany one is better than the other."
