The Greatest of All Gifts We say in the Nicene Creed each week that we believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, who is “the Lord and giver of life”. God is indeed a great giver. He has revealed Himself to be One who loves to give, and He gives us great gifts. The Letter of James teaches that “all good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.”
One of the divine attributes, or the characteristics of Almighty God is that He is a giver. It belongs to the nature of God to give.
Think of all the good and perfect gifts the Lord has given us – He has given us our lives. God has blessed us with our lives, our families, our children and the Catholic Church.
We have the gift of each other, our community. We have the gifts of the beauties of creation – the colors of sunset, the wind, the rain and the sunshine, the flora and fauna. We have the gifts of other beauty as well – music, art, and love. God wants us to have all these great gifts that He has given us.
Without the Lord Our God, we would have nothing. Every breath we take, every moment of our lives that we enjoy during our time here on earth is His gift to us.
But there is one gift that surpasses all the others, as great as they are. Even though we were sinners, even though we had each fallen from grace, God did not cease to be a giver – it’s His nature. He continues to give us all these good and perfect gifts, coming down from Himself, the Father of lights.
This time, He is both giver and gift. To rescue us from sin and its consequences, namely eternal death, God gave us the greatest of all gifts: His only Son Jesus Christ.
The reason and purpose of the Incarnation is the gift of reconciliation. Jesus has not revealed God to be angry, vengeful, condemning, retaliating, harsh, cruel or vindictive. Jesus said that if we’ve seen Him, we’ve seen the Father. What we see in Jesus is a God who forgives, a God who is merciful, loving, compassionate and just.
God has no interest in condemning anyone. Condemnation doesn’t do God any good! It doesn’t satisfy Him or make Him glad. God has revealed Himself to humanity fully in Jesus Christ. And what that revelation means is His greatest of all gifts to us – our redemption so that we can be eternally reconciled and enjoy His presence in His Kingdom for all eternity.
Jesus gave of Himself over and over. Ultimately, He gave His own life, His own self to atone for the sins of the world. St. Anselm wrote that what Jesus did for us is infinitely worthy of the greatest reward there could be. But since Jesus is already God, come in the flesh, He already has all glory and honor and reward.
So once again, God is the giver. Jesus takes the reward He deserves, and gives it to us, the undeserving. That is how great a God and Lord we have, and Jesus is His greatest gift to us.
Let us all sing Hallelujah and praise His Holy Name!

Pope Francis calls the church to be permanently in mission. He calls for everyone to be a missionary. We can participate in the mission through prayer; an hour of adoration. This hour is a great and unrepeated opportunity for a young parent or grandparent to teach their tender lambs our faith and reverence to our most humble Majesty, The Good Shepherd Jesus. Please join us in just one hour of adoration a week out of nearly 124 weekly hours to choose from. An adorer is needed for:
Friday 12:00 midnight—1:00 a.m.
If you are able to help with this time, please call Veronica Fabro at (830)377-9117.
viernes 12:00 media noche—1:00 a.m.

BooksToBorrow
from the Notre Dame Parish Library are available in the narthex of the
church, near the bell tower door.. Deborah Harris tells us about
Miracles of the Cross, by Bob and Penny Lord. If there is any subject that needs to be addressed today, it’s suffering.
Many of us run from the cross. To the obstinate and irreligious,
suffering is a cruel mystery. But for those who strive for union with
God, suffering is a coveted treasure. The prophets considered
suffering to be a call from God to repentance, while the apostles saw it
as a happy privilege to imitate their master. The saints thought of
Jesus’ cross as a rare and beautiful diamond. But above all it was
Mary’s silent fiat at the foot of the cross that revealed the hidden
grandeur of the cross.
Stretched out upon the cross, Jesus’ arms are opened wide to receive
us. At that moment, all people of faith obtained the strength to endure
the sufferings that the Father permitted in their lives.
In 1927 in downtown Mexico City, blessed Miguel Pro stood in front
of a firing squad with arms outstretched in the form of a cross with a
crucifix in one hand and a rosary in the other. As the soldiers fired
upon him, he cried out “Long live Christ the King.”
What have we done with that symbol of the price Our Savior was
willing to pay for us for our redemption? How have we dishonored the
symbol of our faith for which many of our martyrs have given their
lives? The disrespect, dishonor and disdain for the cross and Jesus on
the Cross is nothing new. The battle has raged on between those who
denigrate the Sacrifice Jesus made for us on the Cross, and those who
would honor and glorify His action on the Cross. This conflict has
been battling since the day he was put on the Cross. Satan was in the
crowd that day and he wanted to counteract the significance of what
was taking place and he continues to work for that objective to this
day.
What is the Lord trying to tell us with the miracles of the Cross?
What is happening in our church and our world with regard to our
belief in and our reverence to the Person of Jesus on the Cross, as well
as the Holy Trinity in the sign of the Cross?
In this book, come on a journey of faith. See the marvels the Lord
has prepared for us, see how much He loves us, how He is willing to
overturn the laws of nature, how He is willing to come down off the
Cross for us and give us a miracle.
This book speaks of 22 miracles of the Cross in the lives of the saints.
Citing a few miracles we have: St. Agnes levitating to the Crucifix;
when St. Catherine of Siena came to venerate St. Agnes’ body, the left
foot rose to meet her lips; Blessed Anna Maria Taigi was praying
before the crucifix at St. Paul outside the walls when the Lord
appeared to her and said that because of the sins and blasphemies
committed, He would destroy the Basilica; St. Brigid is known for the
21 promises and the 15 prayers given to her by the Lord before the
crucifix; St. Catherine de’Ricci received the stigmata and was
mystically married to Jesus, shared in His passion and experienced
many visions during ecstasies; St. Catherine of Siena held the baby
Jesus in her arms, was mystically married to Jesus and received the
wounds of the crucified Lord.
Many more saint’s stories are told: Gemma Galgani, Camillus, Clare,
Francis of Assisi, John of the Cross, Julian of Norwich, Louis de
Montfort, Padre Pio, Rita of Cascia, Teresa of Avila, and many others.
The Miraculous Cross is in every church and we are sure that He
manifests Himself to those who call on him. He goes beyond the
limitations of human understanding to prove Himself to you, to let you
know that He is there with you in the Tabernacle, in the miracle of the
Cross, in any place where He is needed.
He is there for you, He waits for you, He listens to you. Listen to
Him! He is talking to us more than ever, pleading with us to convert
before it’s too late!
Next week, we will take up the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. Right now, over 40% of dioceses in the United States are considered mission territory because they are unable to fund essential pastoral work in their communities. Your support of this appeal eases the struggle of these dioceses. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this appeal. Find more information at www.usccb.org/home-missions.

What: Catholic Kidz Camp
When: June 10-14
Where: Notre Dame Gym
Time: 8:00-12:00
Kids will check-in with St. Catherine, pick-up their flight plan and meet their very own Guardian
Angel! They will encounter exciting characters from the Bible whose lives were transformed by the
angels. Who knows? They may meet Mary, the Queen of Angels on the way! Kids will have a soaring
good time!
Parachute with the Angels and St. Catherine Labouré Catholic Kidz Camp is divided into four
age-specific programs. The creative grade-appropriate lessons are based on Sacred Scripture and
Catholic Tradition and the Doctors of the Church. Each day, after the Welcome & Prayer, fun lessons
begin and explain the various roles angels play in our salvation. These lessons are engaging and
promote active participation. Each day children will listen to the story of Saint Catherine Labouré
because Catherine was led by an angel to meet Mary, the Queen of Angels. After listening to a
specific section of the storybook which complements the daily lesson, children will participate in a
variety of drama skits, role-play, games and Bible verse memory activities. Sensational, easy-to-make
crafts reflect each day's theme. Songs from the Angel of God Music CD are upbeat, lively and the
lyrics enrich the overall program.
VOLUNTEERS: WE NEED YOU!!! If you are interested in helping our kids learn their Catholic faith
