Message from Pat Monaghan, Funeral Coordinator and Altar Servers

Dear fellow parishioners, Did you know that we had 75 deaths in our parish in 2018? Fifty-five were celebrated with a Funeral Mass by one of our priests. Did you know that the sacrament of Extreme Unction (Final Anointing) now called the Sacra-ment of the Anointing of the Sick can only be given to a living person and can be given more than once? Did you know that the Anointing of the Sick, which includes anointing, confession and Com-munion, is administered both to the dying and to those who are gravely ill or are about to un-dergo a serious operation, for the recovery of their health and for spiritual strength. If you have a sick or dying loved one living with you, don’t wait. Call the parish office at 609-522-2709, press 4 to contact a priest. When your loved one passes, contact your funeral director, they will help you make all your fu-neral Mass and visitation arrangements. He will contact our consolation team, to arrange the church, date and time of the visitation and/or Mass. Someone from the Consolation team will contact you to aid you in choosing the readings and music for your loved one funeral Mass celebration. Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

�� The Eucharist is the center and heart of Catholic

Christian life. Make a loaf of bread for the even-ing meal. Light a candle and say a blessing for the family. Have each member pull off a piece of the loaf as a reminder that we are one in unity with each other.

�� Get out the pictures of your First Eucharist as

well as photos from the First Eucharist of all the members of your family. Recall stories about that day and what various family members remember most.

�� Involve family members in preparing a meal for

guests. Prepare special signs of hospitality and care. Talk about ways the family can show hospi-tality in the way you greet guests and care for their needs.

�� Make a meal together as a family and bring it to a

homeless shelter or soup kitchen. Share Jesus’ love and care by serving the meal

General Information

Holy Hour of Intercession The Youth and Young Adults Office at the Diocese of Camden requested that parishes come together in Intercessory Prayers for our youth. With so many daily distractions and temptations negatively affecting the mind, body, soul and spirit of our young people, it is important that we pray for healthy interactions and cor-rect moral values in their lives. We are therefore providing time each month when parishioners can come together to pray for all children and young adults, as well as all the intentions they hold in their hearts.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Please consider signing up to spend thirty minutes or more before the Blessed Sacrament in Kelly Hall at Assumption Church on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Liturgy Corner...learn something new or maybe even become inspired !

Q: In the Nicene Creed (Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed), why was "one in being with the Father" changed to "consubstantial with the Father?" A: The new translation is more in keeping with the ancient Latin text of the Creed and a more accurate translation. The bishops at the Council of Nicea (AD 325), in order to ensure that Jesus was professed as the eter-nal Son of God, equal to the Father, stated that he is "the Son of God, begotten from the Father, the only-begotten, that is from the substance of the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten not made, the same substance ( homoousion) with the Father..." The Creed of the Council of Constantinople (381), which is professed at all Sunday Masses and Solemnities within the Catholic Church, similarly stated: "We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of the same substance ( homoousion) with the Father." When these two ancient creeds were translated into Latin, the term " homoousion" was rendered as " consubstantialem," that is, "the same substance of the Father." Prior to the Second Vatican Council, the Latin " consubstantialem" was rendered as "consubstantial" within the English translation of the Creed. Many theologians and the Holy See thought that the term "consubstantial" was more in keeping with the Latin tradition and a more lit-eral and accurate translation than the more recent "one in being." This is in keeping with the mind of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacra-ments, which published an Instruction, entitled Liturgiam Authenticam. It stated: "Certain expressions that belong to the heritage of the whole or of a great part of the ancient Church, as well as others that have become part of the general human patrimony, are to be respected by a translation that is as literal as possible" (no. 56).

PREP CLASSES SCHOOL YEAR: Classes will be held the first three (3) Sundays of the month (October to May, excluding January), from 9 to 10:20 a.m. at CTC/EEC (former St. Ann School), 2901 New Jersey Ave., Wildwood, followed by attendance at 10:30 Mass, St. Ann Church. SUMMER INTENSIVE: Classes are held daily from 8:30 a.m. to noon, July 29 to Aug. 9 (ten sessions). Classes are held at WCHS/CTC building, 1500 Cen-tral Ave., North Wildwood. SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: Preparation to receive First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and/or Confirmation requires a two-year commitment to PREP classes as well as classes especially de-signed to strengthen the understanding of the sacra-ments. Attendance at Retreats, Service Projects and Parent meetings is also required. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SUMMER INTENSIVE AND YEAR-ROUND STUDENTS: All students are required to do six (6) Faith-Filled Events, outside the normal classroom setting, throughout the year. This is to help the child under-stand that faith happens everyday all around you. Not just in class or mass. Notre Dame de la Mer will host several events that are considered Faith-Filled Events or the family may chose to do events outside our parish. All these experiences are considered part of the curriculum and failure to comply risks not being promoted to the next level the following year.
