Introduction• Notre Dame University is known

for it’s high graduation rate and it’s excellent sports history

• A total of 11,731 students currently attend the college

• People from all around the country visit and later go to this school

• 71% of the students who go there are in the top 5% of their class, and 89% of the students are in the top 10% of their class

Football History

• Notre Dame is one of the few teams that doesn't belong to a conference; they are independent

• They have won 13 national championships that range from 1919-1988

• They have had 30 coaches who have brought success and championships to the University

• All Time Football Record: 831-285-41 (.736)• They are 14-15 in bowl games, and their

recent bowl victory was in the Hawaii bowl, winning 49-21

• They have a tremendous fan base and make a great amount of money every year

Rivals-USC• Notre Dame has multiple rivalries • Their biggest rival (in my opinion) is USC• Both colleges have extremely prestigious football

programs and always seem to be in bowl games• These teams play each other every year and the

intensity of the games are extremely dramatic• USC is in the PAC-10 conference while ND is

independent; usually rivalries occur in the same conference, for these teams, no

• The Irish lead the entire series 42-33-5, but lately USC has been stronger

• They are coached by Pete Carrol and the team looks great every year

• Notre Dame has to build up their team if they want to compete with USC for next year

• Fans from all over the country travel to South Bend or Southern California to watch the rivalry game take place

Rivals-Michigan

• This rivalry started recently, compared to USC• The teams have agreed to a 20 year contract

extension, so they will play annually throughout 2031• Michigan leads the rivalry 19-14-1• Every game played between the teams is always

close; this year the Irish lost last second by a Tate Forcier TD

• The final score-Wolverines 38 ND-34• Their freshman Tate Forcier has stunned the fans of

college football by proving that a freshman can compete with teams like The Irish

• Rivalries like these keep fans watching games every week

Charlie Weis

• Weis was criticized for being a bad coach ever since the year Brady Quinn left the team

• Weis ended up with a 35-27 record in a 5 year span

• He had a .565 winning percentage, which was worse than the past two coaches, Tyrone Willingham and Bob Davie

• Many analysts consider Weis as the worst coach ever to be a ND

• After the successful season in 2007, the Irish signed him to a 10 year contract, which would not last long

• He had 6 years left on his contract and disappointed thousands of Irish fans

• The alumni wanted Weis out so bad that they paid for his 16 million dollar buyout!

Possible New Coaches

• Jim Swarbrick has been very interested in current coach of Cincinnati, Brian Kelly

• Kelly had a fantastic year at Cincinnati going undefeated!

• Many other coaches such as Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, Kirk Ferentz, and Pat Fitzgerald have announced that they will not run for the position of the Notre Dame head coach

• Hopefully Brian Kelly (if hired) has a lengthy and successful run as coach

Jimmy Clausen• Recently, Jimmy has announced that he will

enter the NFL draft this year• He is expected to go in the top 10 for the 2010

draft• Many teams have been scouting him and are

very impressed on his performance this year• He has improved dramatically since his

freshman season in 2007• In 2007 he had 7 TD’s and 6 INT’s; in 2008

Jimmy had 25 TD’s and 17 INT’s, and in 2009 Clausen had 28 TD’s and 4 INT’s

• The stats show how much Clausen has matured and after a few years in the pro’s, I think Jimmy will grow into a starting QB, and will have a successful career in the NFL

Golden Tate• Golden Tate was Jimmy Clausen’s favorite

receiver throughout the years• He has caught a total of 157 passes and 93 of

them were from the 2009 season• He is 5’11” and is lightning quick• He returns punts and had a total of around

1500 yards in 2009, just for receiving• A total of 17 touchdown’s this year helped the

Irish in all of their games, win or loss• ND will miss him next year now that he is

entering the draft

Kyle McCarthy

• Kyle McCarthy is a 6-1 Safety from Youngstown, Ohio• He is a senior and has a career total of 223 tackles, 2

forced fumbles, and 8 interceptions• 5 of the 8 Int’s were from the 2009 season• He was the “heart” of the defense and excited

everyone with his hard tackles and clutch interceptions• Hopefully an NFL team will pick Kyle up, I think he

would have a successful NFL career because he shows so much integrity and determination

Overview: 2009 Season

• After a 6-6 season, Notre Dame declined the option of going into a bowl game

• Almost every game came down to the last second, win or loss

• Charlie Weis was fired, multiple star players are going into the draft, and a new coach is still being searched for

• Hopefully next season will end better for the Irish considering they have so much talent on the way

Conclusion

• Notre Dame has a very prestigious football program

• The scouting for this school is incredible because the players who attend the college are extremely smart and athletic

• Many fans from around the country watch the Irish every game
