Our Parish Mission Statement We are a welcoming Catholic Christian community alive in the faith! Through Baptism, we are called to become the heart, the hands and the voice of Jesus. We do this through Eucharist, liturgical celebrations, prayer, and nurturing parish ministries, “That in all things God may be glorified.” (Rule of St. Benedict)

Page 3: Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church · 31/01/2016  · Collection (1/23 - 1/24/2016): $ 7,631.24 (Jonas Blizzard) Same collection last year: $19,684.81 Sanctuary Lamp will burn for Intentions

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The Great Hymn to Love

It is doubtful that Saint Paul, when he sat down to write what we now know as the thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians, knew that he was penning what was to become one of the keystones of Christian ethics. In this brief passage, he set down ideals about love that have held fast through the centuries. Sometimes we may think that because these are ideals to which we aspire, we are excused from them in our daily living.

But what Paul was writing was a letter to his friends, providing them with some sound advice about what it meant—and still means—to live in love, day by day, as a follower of Christ. We find in his words to his friends a broadening of the great commands of Jesus to love God and neighbor. Today we hear what this love must look like in our own actions, and how it ought to guide our relationships with others.

A SPECIAL WEEKLY BLESSING!

Whether you have ever participated or not, come to our St. Benedict’s Chapel any Monday night at 7:00pm for a spir itually enr iching prayer opportunity. We pray the Rosary at 7:00pm, followed by the Miraculous Medal Novena at 7:30pm. Our gathering includes music, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. Come to honor Our Lady, because, after all, it is Mary who brings Jesus to us every day!

WELCOME HOME TO HEALING Experience the gracious mercy of God!

This Lenten season, each Catholic parish in the Diocese of Paterson will have Confession available every Monday evening from February 15 to March 14, from 7:00-8:30pm. If you have been reluctant to come to the Sacrament, have been away for some time or just found it difficult to get to a Saturday afternoon Confession time, this is a wonderful

opportunity to re-connect with Christ and His Church. Don’t be afraid! Information will be provided. Ask the priest to help you.

FAITH. ACTION. RESULTS. A message regarding our

Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl Lenten Initiative

This Lent our community will participate in CRS Rice Bowl, a faith-in-action program that will help you experience Lenten spirituality by living in solidarity with people in need around the world. As we, the global Church, continue our prayerful walk through this Holy Year of Mercy, it is especially appropriate to come together in prayer as a family this Lent, reflecting on how we can live this call to mercy more abundantly.

Use your cardboard CRS Rice Bowl and Lenten Calendar to guide your Lenten prayer, fasting and almsgiving. As a family, read the Stories of Hope and daily reflections to inspire your Lenten journey—and motivate your Lenten giving. Prepare simple, meatless meals on Fridays throughout Lent to eat in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world. Be sure to visit crsricebowl.org to watch videos of the people and communities whose lives your Lenten gifts are changing through CRS Rice Bowl. We will be collecting your CRS Rice Bowls at the end of Lent, so stay tuned to learn more. Thank you for using CRS Rice Bowl with your family this Lent.

CRS is motivated by the example of Jesus Christ to assist poor and suffering people in more than 100 countries on the basis of need, without regard to race, religion or nationality.
