What is an adjective?

•Describes a noun.▫The fat cat chased the small cats.

•In English, adjectives are placed BEFORE the noun it is describing.

• In Spanish, adjectives are placed after the noun.▫The fat cat▫El gato gordo

Noun – Adjective Agreement

•Adjectives must match (in gender and number) the nouns they are describing.

•They can be masculine, feminine, singular, or plural.

•Masculine:▫El chico alto Los chicos altos

The tall boy The tall boys

•Feminine:▫La chica alta Las chicas altas

The tall girl The tall girls

Adjectives that end in consonants•Some adjectives that end in consonants must

add an –a to form the feminine singular. •YOU MUST MEMORIZE THESE!!!

rule for nouns (not z).• If an adjective / noun ends in a vowel add –s• If an adjective / noun ends in a consonant add
