“And we’re so glad, glad, glad that you’re alive...”- PHISH

Jay Bouwmeester epitomizes Easter for me this year. There. I said it. How? Two ways. First, and foremost, thankfully, JayBo has recovered a er suffering a cardiac episode on the team bench during a February 11 game against the Ducks in Anaheim. He credits the quick response of medical personnel for saving his life. Second, as we all know and as seen above, JayBo as the oldest member of the Blues, got to hoist the Cup first, right a er Captain Alex Pietrangelo. We all know the story, similarly to how we all know the story of the Resurrec on. Like it, this one bears repea ng as well. Our Blues, dead last in the NHL on January 3, 2019, they rose all the way to be Stanley Cup Champions 5 months and 9 days later. They “resurrected” their season in the best way possible. We remember and we s ll celebrate, 305 days later.

Today, we celebrate the greatest event in human history, bar none. Jesus, a er suffering for us and dying on the cross, rose from the dead, comple ng the Paschal Mystery, making it possible for all of us to be in heaven with Him one day.

The gravity of this event has impacted all of humanity, forever. We’ve heard the story so many mes, perhaps it has lost its impact on us. This year, Easter and Resurrec on mean so much more for each of us, and for all of us. Limited in our celebra ons on what is typically a great day, spent in a packed church, dressed in our spring best, followed by meals with family and friends, we spend Easter differently this year.

NOTES FROM THE PASTOR

Yet, Easter’s meaning and impact is omnipresent. We can, and should, s ll indulge in what we sacrificed for Lent. We can and should enjoy something special today, no ma er what it is. Even though it may not feel like it, it’s Easter and our lives are forever changed. Go back and read the Gospel for today, John 20:1-9. Lord, we’re so glad, glad, glad that you’re alive! We remember and we s ll celebrate.

Here’s the thing, my dear friends. The Easter Season lasts for 50 days. “With a li le bit of love and luck” (thank you Jimmy Buffe ), and adherence to guidelines to help us fla en the curve of COVID-19, we will be together again at Mass in our parish church before the end of the Easter season. Imagine when we finally get out of our homes as the stay-at-home order is li ed. The stone is rolled away, we are resurrected and reunited together. What a celebra on THAT will be!!! That’s something for us to look forward to! If it’s later, that’s ok too, since every Sunday is celebrated as a li le Easter in the Church. One thing is certain. When the me comes, we will celebrate the Resurrec on as never before!

Some exci ng Easter news today is that Mrs. Cindy Fichter, CPOP parishioner, current 2nd grade teacher and director of our PSR/Evening School program, has been hired as the New Principal for our Parish Day School. Beginning July 1, 2020, she will be the leader of our school community. Cindy’s commitment to, and love for our parish and school community, is so evident, and I am excited to work with her in leading us to greater heights of excellence! Congratula ons, Cindy!

We had several strong candidates in our search for our new principal. I am grateful to our search commi ee for all their hard work and dedica on to the process. Their willingness to share honest feedback ensured a strong result. Thanks to commi ee members: Mary Kate Mortland, Kathryn Moraczewski, Michelle Yates, Beth McCarthy, Andy Denny, and Jane Eschmann. Addi onally, the search commi ee and I are grateful to our faculty for their feedback a er mee ng with our top candidates. Their insights and contribu ons played a strong role in our decision-making process. Now, onto the Director of Music search!

Weekly Sunday Masses from our parish church are available via our parish website. It’s not perfect, or the same, but it’s one way to stay connected. The direct link is h ps://christprinceofpeace.com/live-stream. We hope to have each week’s Mass up at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

For the best way to stay updated, please be sure to sign up for our email updates via Flocknote on the parish website, www.christprinceofpeace.com. Scroll down toward the bo om of the homepage to find the Flocknote form.

Our church will con nue remain open at this me during the day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for individual prayer and devo ons. Come and make a visit with our Lord. See the beau ful Easter flowers for yourself!

Check out all the resources on FORMED.org. All you have to do is register, select Christ, Prince of Peace Manchester in the dropdown menu, and you’re off!

OH YES, and OUR ST. LOUIS BLUES ARE STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!

School News CPOP School is beginning its second week of e-learning and I am amazed at the generosity of our students toward one another. I have seen students helping one another through chat sessions with assignments and technology questions. I have read some of the students’ reflections where they are focusing on the virtue of kindness and how that might look in this new learning environment. I have heard our teachers collaborating with one another to bring quality education to our students. I have received emails from parents, thanking the teachers (many of whom are working very long days to help our students) for all the time and effort to continue educating the students. I have witnessed teamwork between our parents and teachers as they figure out how they will juggle working from home and school from home. This is what a community does in times of crisis. The CPOP community is a great community! Mrs. Hoormann Principal

Deacon Diaper Drive

The Diaper Drive is still going on and is extended to April 19! There is a donation box available in the vestibule for those who want to write a check for the diaper drive. The Diaper Drive collects diapers for infants, toddlers and adults as part of our fourth annual diocesan-wide Pro-Life service project to assist families in need. All diapers collected will be donated to assist families in our parish community and other ministries throughout the archdiocese. For more information, contact our permanent deacon, Patrick Belding or give the office a call. We would like to stress the need for the larger size diapers: 3's, 4's and 5's. A good way to do this is if your last name begins with an A-H, purchase size 3; if I-O, size 4; and if Q-Z, size 5. We ask you to pray for the success of this project and to please be as generous as possible. Thank you!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

CONTRIBUTIONS Yes! The donations we receive from our parishioners are imperative for us to carry out the mission of our parish. Our only source of funds are the gifts of parishioners. We are grateful that our parish family is continuing to realize the need for donations. We are receiving donations through the mail and dropped off at the rectory. Thank you for your maintained support. The link to our online giving is under the Stewardship Tab on our website.

We Need Easter Now More Than Ever

We are all so familiar with the story. How the angel came and rolled away the stone; how Mary Magdalene and other women first found the empty tomb; how they saw Jesus but mistook him for a gardener. Like the na vity, the crucifixion, and so many other bible stories, we’ve become so familiar with the images and with certain details, it can be easy to hear them and not let them penetrate our hearts. This year, of all years, we cannot let that happen.

This is an Easter like never before in the history of the Church. Millions, if not billions, of Chris ans around the world, will be forced to stay away from their Churches on the holiest of all days. You may be tempted to hold back your heart. I know I am. My first thought when we got the no ce that there will be no public liturgies during Holy Week was, “We’ll do an egg hunt for the kids, but we won’t have a real celebra on un l this is all over.”

To some extent, that is what we all have to do. Celebra ons – and make no mistake, Easter is the biggest reason to celebrate – inherently include sharing with family and friends. Celebra on and community are inextricably linked. So when we are allowed to come again to Church and be together once more, it will be a resurrec on of sorts. But that doesn’t mean we should wait un l then to celebrate Easter.

I’m not exactly sure what it should look like. For us, it will involve ge ng the kids dressed up, watching mass on TV, and finding eggs the Easter Bunny hid. (I have it on good authority he will be released from quaran ne to visit houses, kind of like Amazon drivers.) It will involve listening to my best praise and worship playlist, cooking a good meal, and Face ming grandparents. Most importantly, it will involve taking quiet me to marvel at the fact that the creator of the universe loves me enough to suffer the cruelest rejec on and death so that he can defeat it, and my sins.

What it looks like for you will be different. But I hope no ma er what the trappings are, that last part is the same. We need it this year more than ever. Happy Easter! Alleluia!

Blessings to you all,

When asked the other day how my “quaran ne” was going, I replied “I have figured out that gluten hurts my stomach, my son misses me a lot whenever I go to work, and how necessary it is for me to move out of my in-law’s house.” Though all that may be true, there is so much more that I have go en out of this tough

me the world and the Church is going through. One thing that I have realized is that I’ve been was ng this opportunity. Yes, I did say OPPORTUNITY. I love to write and read poetry. I’ve been needing to exercise a lot more. I’ve been wan ng more me to pray and dive deeper into scripture and other spiritual text. I love reading literature novels, and I can call home to Kansas City more and talk to my mother, father, and sisters. I’ve been was ng the opportunity to nurture these hobbies and grow as a person, and I imagine that there are a lot of us who have missed that opportunity.

The other day during one of my YouTube binge sessions, there was an adver sement that caught my a en on with this line, “The great enemy of wri ng is interrup on.” This got me thinking about how beau ful the art of wri ng can be and how some of the best works of poetry and novels all came from someone who was in tune with their thoughts and imagina on and were able to ar culate them on a sheet of paper or the pages of a book. To communicate one’s inner self and create a harmonious breath of words requires us to have clarity in our minds and to block out the distrac ons. Is it fair to say that we are all distracted right now? Not from wri ng necessarily, but from personal growth and nurturing our rela onship with the Father and uni ng ourselves to the Cross of Christ.

We are experiencing some tough mes with COVID-19. There has been severe illness and people all over the globe have lost their lives, their loved ones, paychecks, and most devasta ng, access to the sacraments of the Church. However, it’s all fi ng for the season of Lent. Jesus being crucified was the biggest tragedy to ever be witnessed, but it also became the greatest blessing and led to the greatest miracle we could ever imagine; the resurrec on of Our Lord. Thus, I would pose that the tragedies that we experience in our lives are not the distrac ons, it’s our response to these tragedies and the lack of faith that there will be a “resurrec on”. Experiencing the trials and tribula ons of life can cause us to go off course and seek ways to cope instead of seeking God first. When we do that, we run away from what is stressing us, thus running away from the suffering that unites us to the Cross. Please don’t pardon the interrup on. Don’t waste the opportunity to offer stress and suffering for the greater good of our families and communi es. Don’t let these mes stop us from pu ng God first and building our rela onship with him, and don’t allow tragedy to steal the joy that comes from knowing that God is in control and He is working everything out for the good of those who love Him. This Easter, let’s do something special with our families to show that Our Lord is s ll alive and with us and is loving us every step we take! Amen!
