AN ADDED MEMBER BENEFIT

DIAMOND AWARDS CEREMONY

Stacy WalkupExecutive Director

Dear Chamber Member:

We adopted a program in 2006, The Diamond Awards, and would like to encourage you to participate in the program this year. The program is designed to honor individuals and businesses of our area that uphold strong commitments to community, service, leadership, and innovation.

The 2010 Diamond Awards will be presented to: Ambassador of the Year (chosen by the Ambassadors), Citizen of the Year, New Business of the Year, and Business of the Year.

You can participate by nominating someone and/or some businesses for these prestigious awards. Just read the enclosed Rules and Guidelines and fill out the enclosed Nomination Forms and return along with any other required documents by the deadline date, November 12, 2010. Please fill free to make as many copies of the Nomination Forms as you would like to submit nominees for each category.

Citizen of the Year was created to honor that individual who has made an outstanding contribution to your community and/or to recognize a person who has gone above and beyond what was expected of them.

There are two business categories: 1) New Business of the Year (business started since January 2009) and 2) Business of the Year. The businesses you nominate must be Chamber members. You can verify this by phoning Stacy at the Chamber. Of course, businesses may nominate themselves.

The 2010 Diamond Awards will be presented at a ceremony that will be held during the Chamber Christmas Luncheon on December 2nd at the Columbiana United Methodist Church (Multi- purpose room).

When possible, be sure to express appreciation to our Sponsor Companies for the 2010 Diamond Awards: Alabama Power, AT&T, Bryant Bank, M&F Bank and the Shelby County Reporter.

Nomination Forms can be found on the Chambers Website at www.southshelbychamber.com.We look forward to receiving your nominations and to presenting these awards to well deserving people

of our communities.John BrowningDiamond Awards

Mayor Mark McLaughlin welcomed everyone and gave the invocation for the luncheon sponsored by Bryant Bank and hosted by Whataburger of Chelsea. Shelby County Commissioners Lindsey Allison District 7, Tommy Edwards District 2, Joel Bearden District 5, and Robbie Hayes District 9 were special guests. Businesses that had an expo table were Town of Westover, 280 Animal Medical Center, Honea Family Dentistry, SERVPRO of Birmingham, Skier’s Marine, Dog Gone Gorgeous Grooming, GeoStone, and Superiorscape Inc. The chamber hosted a networking session among members and a “Meet and Greet” session for Columbiana’s in town guest Luther Strange, Candidate for Attorney General. The tables were beautifully decorated for fall by Peggy Wood, Master gardener with Shelby County.

Creative Arts, Antiques and Business Show

Thank you Sponsors: AT&T, Alabama Power and Dynamic Creative ServicesThe Chamber had its fi rst show on Saturday October 9, 2010! The chambers mission with this show was to have a successful show for the vendors, but we also saw the show as an opportunity to invite these talented business owners to set up a storefront in our area! The proceeds of the show benefi t the chamber of commerce which enables the chamber to support so many community projects. The committee worked hard and had over 50 vendors, we offered the vendors a hospitality tent to rest and enjoy refreshments, and we had Johnny Rays BBQ for lunch, and called out lots of donated door prizes. A special Thanks to the Corbitt Family; Charles, Kathy and Ben for the wonderful “Live” Entertainment at the Show!!
