It takes a huge volunteer effort to make this fundraiser a success— there’s something for EVERYONE to do! In that sense, this year is no different. What is different is the date. The clergy decided to try our Thanksgiving worship on Sunday evening, November 24. In case folks are travelling on the day prior to Thanksgiving, holding worship on Sunday will give everyone a chance to participate. So mark your calendars and come to Trinity Lutheran, 3333 Duffield Ave at 6:00pm, November 24. Pr Ruth Ann will be preaching. After worship, the pie social complete with eating and bidding on pies will also take place. All proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity. This year, we celebrate it on the first Sunday of November, the 3rd. We take time to remember the lives of those who have died since last All Saints Day. These first anniversaries may be difficult to get through. But when we gather as community and are reminded that God holds our loved ones in eternal life and honors our tears, perhaps the pain will decrease just a little bit. We will have a slide presentation, names will be read and bells rung to remember those we love. Submit pictures of any loved one or friend who has died since last November to the office by Tuesday, October 29. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life, those who believe in me, even though they die, will live.” (John 11: 25 NRSV

From the Pastor In this last month as we’ve walked through our Worship Grow Serve Generosity Appeal, we’ve asked you to reflect upon your gratitude for King of Glory. Now I want to

share my gratitude for you, the faithful ones of King of Glory.

Over these last months, I’ve witnessed God at work. It delights my soul and cheers my heart. People are growing in faith! In Adult Faith Formation classes, we’ve come to new understandings about our participation (wittingly and unwittingly) in the structure of racism. During Bible study, students ask the real questions. “Did Jesus really mean what he said?”

A high school student wants to do more for homeless people. Little children are excited to be here and learning about God’s love. New members and friends are walking in the front door, singing in the choir, and desirous to get involved. Friends care for one another when hospitalization or illness comes. Members serve on teams spending hours

upon hours of work that I can never compensate them for financially. The Holy Spirit is here. Alive. At work. Our spiritual health is directly related to our emotional and physical health. In addition, our spiritual health is directly related to our desire to be generous. Read that again and think about it! And while I care deeply about what you’re able to give financially to our 2020 ministries, moreover, I care about YOU. I’m grateful for you no matter if you can give $1/week or $1,000/week. Therefore you need to know…my life is very rich. It is rich because of who you are as God’s people. As that beloved German pastor and theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “It is only with gratitude that life becomes rich!” I am deeply grateful for you and I am rich because of you. God bless! Pr Ruth Ann Pastor Deb’s Faith Formation Notes

In this season of Thanksgiving what are you thankful for? God, friends, family, food, creation, life? Gratitude is a spiritual practice that increases our awareness of God’s presence in our lives. If you haven’t ever done

it before keep a gratitude journal this month. Or ask one person each day to share with you what they are grateful for. You will be surprised at what you hear! You can also turn to the Psalms for your devotions, pick your favorite and memorize it! Here is one of my Thanksgiving favorites: Psalm 100 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. 2 Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing. 3 Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Grief and the Holidays Have you lost a loved one this year? Those very first holidays, birthdays and anniversaries after a death can be very difficult to get through. We have two opportunities for you to prepare for the holidays and do some grief work.

Grieving through the Holidays on Saturday, November 16, is from 9:30 – 11:00am at King of Glory. LuMin Campus Ministry Update In October, students from Lutheran Campus Ministries all across the Rocky Mountain Synod made the trek to the great state of New Mexico. As part of our annual fall retreat, we attended the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. While the balloons were cool, the combined ministry + conversation that happens when we are able to gather with our UNM, CU, UNC, and various LuMin counterparts is even better. Building renovations at 805 S. Shields street (our beloved "pizza hut" looking LuMin building) continue! This past month, students gathered to write their prayers on exposed boards comprising the walls of the addition. We are grateful for all of your support in this endeavor, and pray that the

showers, laundry machines, LuMin community, etc. will serve as a place of warmth for housing insecure students for years to come. As always, thank you for your continued support of our ministry! We are able to do what we do because of each and every one of you. Kyra Jensen

Save the Dates! • NoCo Singers—Sunday, Nov. 24, 3:00pm.

This new ensemble is made up of area music educators and other music professionals. Their program includes choral music from the Renaissance through newly-composed works. Don’t miss out on this wonderful concert. See you there!

• Rocky Mountain Chamber Singers— Sunday, Dec. 15, 3:00pm

Concert Series Committee members: Dr. Jane Andrews, Jim Brossia, Kathy Gustad, Janet Meadows, Don McDaniel, and Sally Specht.

Sound System Update Drum roll please…..can you hear it? Indeed, we’ve all heard the pops, squeaks, squeals and other sundry sounds from our dear old sound system. The current system has served KOG well for 30+ years and is ready for retirement! Over the past few months, the sound system task force of Ed Young, Dr. Jane Andrews, Jerome Beckman, Pastor Ruth Ann and Eric Backsen had discussions with multiple experts in the audio/video field from Northern Colorado region. We received 3 qualified bids and scrutinized their recommendations. We are recommending going with a company from Denver, Clearwing Productions. Clearwing is a reputable company in the industry and comes with good recommendations (having done church congregations of all sizes). The new system will be a complete overhaul and will include a new 24 channel sound board, speakers, amplifiers, microphones and assisted hearing devices. We envision that this new system will serve our church for the next 30 years and beyond. The total cost of the system is estimated to be $40,000. In order to proceed, we needed $20,000 for a down payment to order the equipment. Thanks to several generous KOG donors, we have secured those funds and can proceed with ordering and scheduling of installation. We hope that installation will take place in late November/early December. Clearwing estimates a full week of installation. They will start on a Sunday after service, and the new system will be up and running before the next week service. After installation, the second and final payment of the sum balance will be due (estimated to be around $20,000). Keep your ears open not only for new clarity of sound, but also for how you might participate! This onetime expense was not included in the three initiatives of the Worship, Grow, Serve appeal, because it is a one-time expense. The Worship, Grow, Serve appeal focuses on KOG’s ongoing ministries. If you have questions or wish to contribute, please speak with Eric Backsen (Leadership Team President) or Pastor Ruth Ann.

Walking Wet (Remembering our Baptismal water directions to share God’s love!) In case you missed worship on October 19-20, here is an excerpt from Pr Ruth Ann’s sermon. We give God thanks for Mike Dodge who ‘walked wet’ by volunteering at Loveland Connect. “Mike Dodge volunteered for the first time at Loveland Connect. Connect is a program that takes place in 160 cities around the country including Ft. Collins. Loveland Connect is a way for homeless individuals, couples and families to get connected to services they need. At Truscott Elementary’s cafeteria, tables were filled with information from 40 different agencies. Some attendees came to get one service, like a haircut or a vaccination for their pet, while some came and looked through all 40 agencies. People could get clothes, or flu shots or even cell phones through a food stamp program. The volunteer’s job was to escort an attendee through the fair. Mike said of his morning’s service, “It was the most amazing experience! I’ll never look at a homeless person sitting on a bench the same way. You get to know their stories and they’re good people! Maybe they didn’t have health insurance, or got laid off. And then you think, this could happen to me!” Financial Notes

If you’re over age 70½ you can donate from your IRA directly to King of Glory, yet that IRA distribution will not be taxable! Called a “Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)”, this

strategy saves some people a lot of tax, especially those who do not itemize. Because it reduces your annual income, it may also reduce the amount of Social Security benefits on which you are taxed.

Annual QCD limit: $100,000 per year. Requirement: You must be over age 70½. Depending on your Adjusted Gross Income, this might also reduce your Medicare Part B premiums! Another benefit: These distributions count toward your annual Required Minimum Distribution.

Want to do this? Don’t wait until December! Do this soon, so that there is plenty of time to complete this before year end. Have questions? For more information, feel free to contact any of these members of the KOG Generosity Team: Leo Salazar, Liz Melton, or Zan Pensack-Rinehart.

Prayer Requests - If you have a special prayer request please contact the church office. You may call or email the church office (970-669-

5983); [email protected], or Pr Ruth Ann at [email protected] Caring Eucharistic Ministers We have a many home-centered members who are not able to attend worship at KOG. We had two Caring Visitors who took Holy Communion faithfully the last several years. This team has now expanded and changed its name to Caring Eucharistic Ministers. They are excited to serve the Lord and our members in this way. We will bless them and send them from worship on the first Sunday of each month. If you know of a member who might enjoy receiving Holy Communion at home please let Pastor Ruth Ann know.
