This book focuses on novel perflurocycloalkenyl (PFCA) aryl ether polymers,derived via polycondensation of perfluorocycloalkenes with bisphenols.Chapter 1 describes the detailed background of fluorine, its reactivity andeffect in organic chemistry. This chapter also discusses the application offluoropolymers with a detailed study of two fluoropolymers:perfluorocyclobutyl aryl ether polymers and fluorinated arylene vinyleneether polymers. Chapter 2, 3 and 4 describe the detailed synthesis,characterization and different properties of bis-PFCA aryl ether monomers,perfluorocyclopentenyl (PFCP) aryl ether polymers andperfluorocyclohexenyl (PFCH) aryl ether polymers, respectively. Chapter 3also includes the potential crosslinking and post-functionalization studiesof PFCA aryl ether polymers. Chapter 5 discusses the application section ofthese newly synthesized PFCA aryl ether polymers. Ultra low dielectricconstant (k = 1.53) materials with self-cleansing properties weresynthesized via incorporation of fluorodecyl-polyhedral oligomericsilsesquioxane (FD-POSS) into PFCP aryl ether polymers.

Dr. Sharma received a Ph.D. in 2013 from Clemson University andUniversity of Texas at Dallas. His doctoral work was focused on thesynthesis, characterization, and applications of novel fluorinatedmonomers and polymers. He has published 5 refereed journal papers,submitted 3 patent applications and presented his work at over 18conferences.
