Evolutionary Changes in Media Communications DemandSuppliers on the Leading Edge to Forge Challenges Into Profitable New Opportunities

The impacts of the ‘e-invasion,’ convergence of cross-media technologies, persistent global economic uncertainty, emerging international markets, soaring costs for raw materials and energy, the trend toward ‘green’ as a standard deliverable, plus many other forces are forever changing our industry.

The outlook on today’s ‘new age’ of communications is leading decision makers in the marketing and advertising arenas to reformulate their business model for print, based firmly on one-to-one value and ROI. How conversant are you with these influences and their impact on your bottom line? Discover how to meet the

challenges and benefit from the new opportunities they create at the NPES 2012 Annual Conference. The robust agenda is designed to engage you in strategic conversation with industry leaders and peers who are, likewise, pioneering innovative pathways toward the new model of print.

Our program takes on added depth with the reveal-ing insights from a global publisher; a concise update on the impacts of electronic technologies on print; an enlightening look at the impact of innovation in driving growth in successful businesses today; a preview of the exciting opportunities that new and emerging tech-

nologies portend for the printing industry; a hilarious enactment of the key ingredient every company must have to be GREAT, plus the world-class level networking activities that members have come to expect from NPES.

You will return home inspired with new insights, strategies and tactics that will enhance your relationships with customers and vendor partners who are themselves embracing the ‘new era’ communications environment, and be better poised to position your business for success in the months and years ahead.

Opportunities in Emerging Technologies9:30 – 10:00 A.M.

John Jay JacobsVisiting Lecturer, Department of Graphic Communications, Clemson University

John Jay Jacobs has a message: that Invention (creating something new) and Innovation (refining something) are the keys to emerging print tech-nologies that are paving profitable new pathways for our industry today. This

provocative session is an invitation to expand your mind, your service offerings, and your market share by rethinking what printing is (the process) and broadening your definition of ink (the function).

John Jay Jacobs, after 16 years in the membrane switch and electro panel industry, returned to academia in 2008. He presently teaches a variety of courses at Clemson University including Foundations in Graphic Communications, Graph-ics for Packaging Science, and Functional Materials & Printed Electronics.

Market Opportunities in Printed Electronics10:00 –10:30 A.M.

P. Marc CarterDirector, Technology Transfer, IPC

Over the past decade, optimistic projec-tions indicated massive growth in the market acceptance of printed electronics as “just around the corner,” with some cor-porations investing quite heavily in plans based on those projections. Unfortunately, that legacy of “pie-in-the-sky” unsupport-

ed market projections continued in some quarters, and plans based more on hope (or “hype”) than substance suffered the usual fate when faced with cold, hard reality. Now some former proponents have concluded that “Printed Electronics

will never amount to anything.” The truth is neither so rosy as some projections would have us believe, nor as bleak as the “once-burned” naysayers would indicate, but somewhere in the middle. In a developing industry with indistinct limits on what constitutes “Printed Electronics” developing trustworthy market data is difficult. This session will examine: “real” pro-duction today and near term; identify application segments likely to develop or expand in the near and intermediate term, and what is necessary to enable that growth; and, identify additional segments that warrant close attention in the near (5 year) and intermediate (10 year) term, plus some of the pitfalls to avoid that could derail or delay that growth.

Marc Carter as Director, Technology Transfer at IPC-Associ-ation Connecting Electronics Industries, is responsible for the oversight of IPC Technology and Printed Electronics Roadmap activities, and supporting IPC efforts in regulatory compli-ance, training, and support of the developing printed electron-ics industry. A particular focus is managing and improving the collaborative efforts between IPC and other technical standards and specification organizations throughout the world.

Scott ChristopherSpeaker, Author, Actor and Mild Irritant

Scott Christopher is co-author of the best-selling book “The Levity Effect: Why It Pays to Lighten Up” and author of (he jokes?) the worst selling book “Lighten Up: Man-aging with Mirth Ain’t Rocket Surgery.” He has traveled the world entertaining and motivating thousands of individuals with

his laugh-a-minute lectures on how levity, humor and becom-ing more of a ‘people person’ can help you excel in business and at home. Despite the hilarious format, Scott backs what he preaches with meaningful data, research, case studies and stories.

Scott Christopher has been an actor, comedian, TV host and emcee for, well, let’s just say a long time and leave it there. As an undergrad at BYU, Scott won the prestigious IRENE RYAN award at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate actor. Scott has appeared on The Disney Channel, CBS, Fox Kids, Lifetime, The WB and in over 20 films.
