CHAPTER DIRECTORS NOTES JAY & HARRIET
Hello everyone, the first of the white stuff was on
the ground this morning. Not ready for this! But
will wait till I can get bike back out.
Anyhoo on to things of interest. There was the
District Officers Meeting on October 20th. Some
of the things that were discussed were, Ray and
Melinda are looking for a location for Spring
Wing. Rick is trying to get ARC and TRC classes
set up in Crawfordsville in the spring.
Kay Tieche will be the Chapter Director for W in
Columbus. Chuck Jacobs is the Assistant Director
for the southern chapters. Deb Warmels is the
Facebook Administrator for Indiana on Wings.
Tim Watson is the District Ride Coordinator, he
puts the rides on the Facebook page. Paula Swift
is the Motorist Awareness Coordinator.
As the District Educator Rick will have a Rider Ed
schedule at Winter Rendezvous.
As most of you know we are having issues with
getting new members. There are issues with
member participation. We need to get our name
out there so other riders know more about us,
and want to join us. We can do Bike shows,
booths at festivals, ride in parades.
Couple of the year will not have to do an onstage
presentation at National. Will still be a stage
presentation at the District level.
Our Chapter Christmas Party will be on
December 1st. We will set up at 4:30, mingle with
appetizers at 5:00. Dinner at 5:30. Roast beef and
roast pork with mashed potatoes and gravy,
drinks and ice cream will be supplied by the
Chapter. We are asking that members bring a
passing dish or all to enjoy.
Each of us should bring a $5.00 to max of $10.00
wrapped gift for a fun exchange.
The first draft of the new Officers Handbook is
on line at GWRRA.org.
I thought that the shirts Jinger found looked nice.
She is looking to try and get the price down a
little bit more.
Winter Rendezvous will be on February 22 and
23. The theme will be Snow Birds. The Saturday
night meal will be at a different Amish house.
There are only 120 spaces available. If you want
to join us you need to get your registration in
soon.
Chapter G will be the host Chapter.
Hoping to see everyone at the Christmas Party,
Jay and Harriet

RICK & DEBBIE WARMELS
Sniffle, sob, shrug, snort. The end of the normal riding season is upon a lot of us. For those of you who
don’t like cold weather riding, you’re probably preparing your trusty stead for its long winter nap. As
you’re doing those chores or at your next gathering/dinner ride, how ‘bout thinking about or discussing
this past riding season. Did you ride as much as you wanted? Did you have any close calls? Did you feel
as comfortable riding as you did in past years? Is there something you felt like you could do to make
yourself a better rider?
For you co-riders, did you feel as comfortable riding this year as you did in years past? Did you think you
had any close calls (your definition may not be the same as your rider!), is there something you’d like to
work on, or your rider to work on, to improve your quality of ride?
Now is the time to take stock about the good and bad of the season and put into place your plan for next
year. Is your riding gear shrinking and you need to invest in some new stuff? Are your tires reaching the
end of their safe life? Are you riding your bike with the confidence you want/need?
If there are some riding issues you’d like to address for next season or if you just want to be the best you
can be, start planning on taking a rider course next year. Co-Riders, if YOU want your rider to be the best
they can be (your safety is directly tied to their riding skills), start getting on them NOW to sign up for a
rider course!
Your Indiana District has a fantastic cadre of instructors willing and able to put on classes anywhere in
Indiana. We can teach Advanced Rider Course (ARC), Trike Rider Course (TRC), Two-Wheel Trailering,
and Trike with Trailering. All count towards your Levels certification. All we ask is we have enough
students to make it worth the time and effort needed to prepare for and present a course. We’d love to
have 12 bikes but we’ll do a class with 4-6 bikes. We also need your help in finding ranges we can use.
We need a relatively flat, paved area close to 310 x 210 feet. It can be a little smaller and can have some
light poles. In a perfect world, we’d have an area twice that size where we can run an ARC and TRC class
simultaneously. In a little less perfect world, we’d love to have a range where we can train ARC/TRC on
the same patch of ground on a back-to-back Saturday and Sunday (saving us a lot of prep and travel
time). We’ll also need some sorta classroom facility. Nothing fancy just lights, chairs, tables, power, and a
potty. GWRRA has insurance and can provide that information if you have a site thinking about letting us
use their lot.
NOW is the time for YOU to help US get ready for the 2019 riding season. Talk about this at your
gatherings, holiday get together, or at an upcoming dinner ride. We want you to be the best you can be
while out riding your bike.
Until next time……..
