"TIDbits: Theological Ideas from the Deacons"
Sacramental signs within the Church
We are a “sacramental community”, meaning that we
are a sign of God’s action in the world around us.
Our priests are sacramental signs to us of Christ the
priest, representing Christ in offering the Mass, and as
Bridegroom to his Bride, the Church.
Deacons are sacramental signs to us of Christ the
servant, who calls us all to be servants. This is why we
try to have a deacon present at all Masses.
All of us together are a sacramental sign of the Body of
Christ, to which we all belong. As a community
gathered, we are a sacramental sign to the world of the
love God holds for each one of us.
