Heavenly Father, Remind us that we can never do a kindness too soon, because we never know how soon it will be too late. Let us not turn away from any cry for help from the sick, the lonely, or the hungry. And now bless this food to our use and us to Your service. Amen

MEMBERSHIP SOCIAL– NOV 4THMEMBERSHIP SOCIAL– NOV 4THSPEAKERSPEAKER
A DCM was held Monday, November 8th, hosted by the Fernandina Club. Our club was asked to host the next one on January 27th, 2011.
Treasurer Debbie Johnson and President Butch Shadwell attended.
Membership Chair Neil Powell spoke about the Membership Round Up at Urban Flats Restaurant on Nov. 4th at 5:30pm.
John Bates spoke on the Upcoming Children’s Book Give Away.
MAYPORT ELEMENTARY K KIDS CLUB
Thanksgiving-themed placemats which will be used for the Thanksgiving dinner at the Beaches Senior Center on November 19.
Students received their Kiwanis Membership Certificates.
John Bates, Sandy Ostroski, Bill Montgomery, and Lal Ramdeen distributed 70 books to the children at the Navy Child Development Center on November 9th.
Thank you to all those who came to our social last night, Jim Lee, John Bates, Bill MacLeod, Paula Powell, and Kevin Likens. We hosted two guests, Liz and Shawn Parnell. Next time we're going to have to coordinate a date that works better for everyone (and maybe the Big Guy will help us w/ better weather). An added bonus of last night's social was a few of us got to socialize and then brainstorm on fundraising ideas. Let's now devote our membership focus to the DECEMBER 10TH FINE ARTS CONCERT AT 7:30 P.M. at St. Paul's by the Sea Episcopal church. John Bates is heading this up, and will be in touch on how you can help. Please save the date! If any of you know of a prize you could get donated to the club, please go ahead and try to do so. I'm going to try to assemble several prizes worthy of a raffle. A good prize would be a gift certificate to a restaurant, a voucher to stay at a hotel/resort or other travel, or new electronic devices. Our next social is probably going to be in February. As I mentioned before, we have an opportunity to turn our social into a fundraiser. Urban Flats will allow us to sell tickets anywhere from $10 - $25 per person to attend a social at their restaurant, and all we have to pay them is $5 per person for the people who actually show up. We would have to pick a Tues or Thursday evening from 5:30 - 7:30. They will provide red and white wine and appetizers (if you want anything else, I believe you have to pay for it). I would hope that we could pick a date in Feb, and sell at least 100 tickets at $20 each. If only 50 people show up, our cost is $250, and we'll clear $1750!!! That's as good as a rose sale with a lot less work. Please respond to me with suggested Tues or Thurs dates for Feb and how many tickets you would hope to sell. I'm not going to do this unless we all hope to sell at least 100 tickets. I believe they will print up tickets for us, so if we act fast we could probably begin selling them by Dec. 1st, which would give us over 2 full months to sell them. Remember, people don't have to come if they just want to make a donation to Kiwanis. Neil

BUILDERS CLUBThe Builders Club met in Ms Downs classroom this afternoon to make center pieces for the Kiwanis Thanksgiving dinner on November 19th. We also had a pizza party to keep their strength up. The centerpieces turned out beautifully. I'm sure the senior diners will appreciate the decorations as well as the special meal.
