The rulers of the Jews were mocking Jesus, as was Pilot, who put the inscription above Jesus stating that He was the King of the Jews. What a genius God is using a symbol of death to triumph over death and to make it now a symbol of eternal life! So as we reflect on the Kingship of Jesus today, the King of the Universe, the King over all that exists we are compelled to ponder the love that God must have for us, giving His beloved Son to us not only as a sacrifice for our salvation but also that food from Heaven that satisfies our spiritual hunger as well. PASTOR’S MESSAGE

For many of us, Thanksgiving is our most beloved holiday. There are many reasons, not the least of which, is the festive dinner and sharing to which we look forward with such anticipation. At the heart of the celebration is this festive meal that brings families and friends together to focus on what is really important: our presence and meaning in each other’s lives. We realize, perhaps more than on any other day, why our lives are so blessed. We are blessed because of all of the people who are blessings for us and for whom we are a blessing in return. We keenly miss absent family, friends and loved ones because we know how impoverished our life is without them. The joy of physical presence, the sounds of familiar voices, the sight of loved ones all come together in an intense experience of the real meaning of love.

It is an interesting human characteristic that we love to share food and drink together in ways that are about more than just bodily sustenance. This experience of a "sacred meal" is also an important dimension of our life of faith. When we gather to participate in the Holy Eucharist, the Mass, we are uniting our Thank You to the Father with the Thank You of Jesus the Son. We are acknowledging our total dependency upon God's loving providence. We take everything of who we are and what we have and offer it as a great gift of gratitude to our loving Creator. Thanksgiving is what we do best as Catholics every time we join as the Body of Christ in expressing our deepest spiritual identity in Word and Sacrament, Hymns and Holy Communion.

Our Mass, born out of the Hebrew experience of Exodus and Passover, is the most important sacred ritual that we have. United with Christ and following His command, we bless, break, and consume His Body and His Blood. In this miraculous sharing, He continues to be with us and in us until the end of time. For this transformation of bread and wine and for our own transformation in holiness We Give Thanks. Every other sacred meal, most especially Thanksgiving, has its most profound meaning in connection with the Sacred Meal of Thanksgiving, the Eucharist.

May our celebration of Thanksgiving this year be an opportunity for growth and deepest joy.

God, Love, Family, Friendships and Community define most fully the true meaning of our life. For this Eternal Truth, We Give Thanks!

THANKSGIVING BLESSINGS COMING SOON

Thanksgiving Prayer

O Gracious God,we give you thanks for your overflowing generosity to us.

Thank you for our home and family and friends, especially for those gathered here today.

Thank you for the blessings of the food we eatand especially for this feast today.

We gratefully remember too our family membersand loved ones who are not here with us physically

and celebrate the gift which they have beenand continue to be for us.

May we live this and every day gratefulfor all that has been given to us.

We make this prayer as we do all thingsthrough Christ our Lord

You’ve heard of the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. But what do they really mean when it comes

to how you live your life?

Forgive InuriesBe quick to accept an apology from a sibling after an argument, and be willing to

offer your own apology for your role in the confl ict. Remember that apologizing and forgiving are signs of strength, not weakness.

ANNUAL SJA PARISH MISSION December 5, 6, and 7 at 7:00pm in SJA Church

Father Mike Joly is a Roman Catholic priest celebrating twenty-two years in the priesthood. Currently, he serves as pastor of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Yorktown, Virginia and loves teaching, preaching, singing, witnessing Christ’s movement in others. Finding meaning, purpose, and direction in his own vocation,

Fr. Mike works to communicate how universally available this is in everyone’s life.

Our parish family is about to experience an Advent Mission which will “open the door” for miracles to become more evident in our lives. A man who has been blind for most of his life will present the mission. Fr. Mike Joly - a parish pastor, director of retreats and Catholic recording artist - will open up whether miracles are fact or fi ction, and will challenge everyone to receive the power of miracle anew.

Our Advent Mission will begin at all Masses on the weekend of Saturday/Sunday, December 3-4. Fr. Mike will invite all the faithful in our parish, from teen-agers up through the most mature in our faith family to attend a three-night Mission: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings (December 5, 6, and 7), beginning at 7:00 p.m. He will draw on music and interacting dynamics to “open the door” to the power of miracle in this “New Evangelization.” He will make use of Advent/Christmas scriptures and the writings and teachings of Pope Francis and some great leaders in our Catholic faith.

“MERCY, MIRACLE, AND OUR MISSION FROM POPE FRANCIS”

Speaker: Fr. Mike Joly

The massive and exciting effort to complete the redesign and refurbishing of our SJA Campus continues, growing ever so close to reality each day. But, it is not yet there and funds are still needed.

Over the summer, St. Joan of Arc was gifted $250,000 towards the campaign with the caveat that this funding would ignite a passion to complete the project sooner than anticipated through a match challenge donation. Will you rise to the recent challenge set forth by this gift? Will you help to complete this project? Because no gift is too small, will you give what you can in order to do so?

While typical capital campaigns concentrate on the bricks and mortar, Our St. Joan of Arc Campus will be more than defining walls or aesthetically appealing accompaniments. Rather, it will be a place where St. Joan of Arc school children are able to learn in an art conservatory where discovering music, dance and the visual arts lends to learning in other academic areas. And, it will be a place for children to discover, grow and thrive.

It will be a place where people in need come for help. It will be a gathering place for social events and meetings. It will be a legacy for our children, who will be the future of our Catholic faith. The redesign and refurbishing of our SJA Campus is a part of us all.

You see, the Journeying Forward into the Heart of Our Future is so much more than superficial buildings or structures. It is a comprehensive, thoughtful and caring plan to meet the needs of our seniors, our children and our families. It’s about being able to provide more help to the community too. The Journeying Forward into the Heart of Our Future is, in part, about our past. A past full of passion and dedication to have a Catholic church in Boca Raton, a past that started a future for us all. Wouldn’t you want to help start a future for others?

Be a pioneer. Give to the future of St. Joan of Arc. Give to the campaign.

To make a contribution, please fill-in the pledge card located in the pews and credenzas at church, parish and school offices and return in the attached envelope.

For additional information, please contact Wendy Horton at [email protected] or 561-952-2838

Thanks to those parishioners who contributed over the weekend we have raised $60,000 towards our Matching Gift of $250,000. Leaving us

with $190,000 remaining! Please make your pledge now... because your donation is twice as valuable!

FROM THE SJA HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRYAs 2016 comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect and make resolutions for the new year. Resolutions mean a time for change and new beginnings, and that is exactly what is happening with the SpArk, the High School Youth Ministry program.

It’s about time we introduced ourselves. We are your new leaders of the SpArk and we could not be more excited to be serving you. Valerie Bryant is the Guidance Counselor at Saint Joan of Arc. Michael Piranio is a junior at Florida Atlantic University pursuing a Bachelors of Art in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and Rhetoric. We are the planters of the mustard seed and the harvesters of tomorrow. We engage in faith-based exploration of ideas through worship, recreation, and application of the Gospel message in the 21st Century. Come and see us for yourselves at our meet and greet session at the Ark on Friday, December 2nd from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. We would love to see you there!

The SpArk is so much more than a simple meeting. The youth takes care of the 5pm Mass on Sundays doing anything from ushering to lectoring and serving the Blood and Body of Christ. We are engaged in the celebration of Mass in every way. After Mass, we convene at the Ark for dinner, activities and group discussion. It’s a great way to meet fellow youth members at the Church and to explore the Catholic faith on a deeper level. After the holidays, Michael will be leading Bible studies on Friday afternoons at 3:30 pm in the Ark for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of the Bible and Jesus’s teachings. That’s not all we do! We are planning a Mass on the beach, a food packing day and other great activities.

Michael and I already have some great ideas, but we need to hear from you as well! We care about the active involvement of our youth in our Church and allowing our young people the opportunity of expressing their faith in a youth friendly atmosphere. We look forward to seeing you next Sunday. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions. You can reach Valerie at [email protected] or Michael at [email protected]. God Bless!

SJA CATHOLIC CHURCH & SCHOOL VETERANS DAY SERVICEWe are so proud of our U.S. Veterans!

As it is customary, St. Joan of Arc Church & School celebrated a Prayer Service to honor our Veterans. Many of the participants belong to our parish, are friends of parishioners, or are related to our school families. At the Prayer Service each individual veteran was honored, and a short story of their life in our armed forces was shared with all attendees. SJA students were delighted to hear the stories and see pictures of these inspiring men and women! A joyful reception followed organized by our school staff. God bless our Veterans! God bless the U.S.A!

For what are we thankful? Food on the table, a roof over our heads, family and friends? How often do

we “count our blessings”? A wonderful Thanksgiving Day family tradition is to hand everyone pieces of

paper in the shape of leaves, where each person can write blessings received during the year. Even if the

blessings are not read aloud, they may be gathered in a basket and offered to God in thanksgiving during our prayer before the meal. If these leaves are preserved in a Thanksgiving Journal or notebook, how wonderful

will it be to look back at years past and remember the blessings of meeting a new friend, celebrating a wedding, welcoming a new baby, finding a new job, purchasing a house or missing someone special who is no longer with us. Let us count our blessings and

thank God for every single one, no matter how small.

STEP 1 Gather your information about your assets, including retirement funds, bank accounts and real property.

STEP 2 Choose the type of bequest you’d like to make.1. Unrestricted bequest. This is a donation to be used for St. Joan of Arc general funds. This donation would be used where it is most needed.2. Restricted bequest. This donation specifies how the money is to be used. (This could be restricted to go into the endowment, a specific ministry, or the building fund.)A bequest can be made in a number of ways:• A specific dollar amount.• Specific assets, such as securities, real estate, or tangible property.• Retirement account assets, consisting of any benefits remaining in your retirement plan.• A residuary bequest, St. Joan of Arc receives all or a percentage of your estate after all other obligations are met.• An existing will or trust can be easily amended to include a gift to St. Joan of Arc without rewriting the entire document. Your attorney can prepare a simple document, called a codicil, which adds a new bequest while reaffirming the terms of your will. Similarly, an attorney can prepare an amendment to a revocable trust to add St. Joan of Arc.

STEP 3 Meet with your estate planning attorney. If you need to create a will or just update your existing document, you’ll want to get advice from your estate planning attorney.

An attorney can advise you as to the best way to structure your will in order to take care of your loved ones first and then your charitable interests while assuring the best tax benefits.

As a charitable, not-for-profit all bequests to St. Joan of Arc are fully deductible for estate tax purposes.

STEP 4 Contact us.We acknowledge and welcome donors into our Arc Angel Society. Members are invited to special member events and receive special mailings. (We also recognize and respect the wishes of anyone that wishes to remain anonymous.)

Please contact Wendy Horton in the Development Office at (561) 952-2838 or [email protected].

MINISTERIO MULTICULTURAL

Gracias
