Dear Division 23 I hope you all are enjoyed your school year thus far and your Thanksgiving For me it certainly has been great This is the edition of The Key of 23 where LTC is one of the main focuses along with celebrating club projects and (as always) the paperwork updates Please take some time to read through the e-mail thoroughly as it has much important information Let me know if you have any questions Yours in friendship and service Josh Hill Lt Governor

Key Club Week is an annual event where members of Key Club celebrate their service for once specific week Each day of the week has a certain theme this year it took place on November 5-9 2012 Monday Show your K in every way Tuesday Kudos to the Key players Wednesday Connect the Ks Thursday Bring a friend to Key Club Friday Your way

Every year UNICEF puts out their Trick-O-Treat event for people to participate in to help raise funds for the general UNICEF fund However now that UNICEF and Kiwanis have teamed up to eliminate maternalneonatal tetanus if the club labels their donation per The Eliminate Project then all funds go to help out UNICEF and Kiwanis

If your club participated please make sure that it is sent in before December 30th 2012 This is very important In addition remember to fill out a Fundraising Report Form and send in a proof to Treasurer Annie If your club rose over $250 you will receive a patch to put on your clubrsquos banner

Trick-O-Treat for UNICEF

Leadership Training Conference 2013 Also commonly known as LTC is the annual conference in which 700 members of the New York District of Key Club International gather to celebrate the year of service and excellence they just helped out in creating While there you meet many new people and forge many new friendships It is always exciting to see all the new people and sometimes see some old friends there is never a dull moment when it comes to the 3 day event in March (specifics are below) The conference includes workshops dances social sessions entertainment rooming meals general sessions and above all an experience you will never forget I cannot describe in words all the wonderful experiences you will see you have to see it to believe it Once someone leaves convention they leave with a smile that will not leave for hours after attending you will have a new found appreciation for Key Club trust me Who all of New York District Key Club (advisors and members alike) What Leadership Training Conference (one of the greatest conferences you will attend ever) When March 22-24 2013 Where Holiday Inn on Wolf Road in Albany NY Why Itrsquos a fun experience and something no Key Clubber should ever have to miss out on How contact LTG Josh or your advisor ASAP for information Registration starts soon and space fills up fast Cost $260 per student (3-4 studentsroom (same gender)) $310 per adult (2 adultsroom (same gender)) $500 per adult (1 adultroom) The price is not meant to discourage you from attending Ask your advisor on an appropriate way to pay for convention they have all the information for this

The Governorrsquos Project is a project decided on by the District Governor that focuses on a specific category or area of service outreach This yearrsquos Governorrsquos Project is called ldquoKeys to Accessibilityrdquo which aims to serve the elderly and those with disabilities

ldquoKeys to Accessibilityrdquo focuses on serving the elderly and disabled Though there are no specific guidelines for the project here are some possible project ideas organizing a dance for your local senior center visiting and providing assistance for a home for persons with disabilities having a biweekly club visit at an elderly home and providing services such as reading newspapers storytelling for the visually impaired holding a sports competition for the disabled and much more

I know that many of your clubs have participated in working with the elderly and disabled thus far in this service year make sure that it is recorded in your clubrsquo Monthly Report Form

Governorrsquos Project

For the first time the Bishop Kearney Key Club organized a fundraiser which we like to call Feed a Family This fundraiser collected money to support the Open Door Mission Feed a Family was a competition between SAP (Student Activity Period) rooms to see which room could collect the most money for the fundraiser The SAP room that collected the most money was rewarded with a formal Thanksgiving lunch and early dismissal after the lunch The Distillery donated two fresh turkeys and the entire Thanksgiving meal was prepared by Keenanrsquos Restaurant The goal for Feed a Family was set at $100000 At the school-wide assembly that kicked off the fundraiser Mr Miller the Bishop Kearney Dean of Students promised students a dress down day if the goal was exceeded We were surprised to see how involved and generous students were For this reason we raised more than double the amount of our original goal Students were donating large sums of money not even worrying about if they won the Thanksgiving lunch or not Students donated out of pure generosity The total amount raised in the Feed a Family fundraiser which was donated to the Open Door Mission was an amazing $257500 Since the total raised far exceeded that of our original goal Mr Miller not only awarded Bishop Kearney students with a dress down day but also a sneaker week During sneaker week students will be able to wear any shoes with their normal uniform rather than the regular dress shoes Feed a Family marks the most successful fundraiser that the Bishop Kearney Key Club has ever had So successful that Michael Hennessy Open Door Mission Executive Direction and Chris Scribani Director of Development and Communications visited Bishop Kearney to thank the school Giuliana Pietrantoni Bishop Kearney Key Club President and Christine Reiss Key Club Editor presented the check to the representatives from the Open Door Mission on the Bishop Kearney morning news broadcast Presentation of the check to Open Door Mission representative was also covered by WHEC channel 10 local news station The money donated to the Open Door Mission was used to feed over 5000 people Thanksgiving dinner this Thanksgiving The success of this fundraiser is thanks to the Feed a Family committee of Bishop Kearney Key Club members who collected money from SAP rooms counted and recorded totals for each room made posters and encouraged students to contribute The Bishop Kearney Key Club plans to organize this fundraiser annually for many years to come

Service Spotlights Bishop Kearney Feed a Family

For the past two years the Bishop Kearney Key Club has organized a fundraiser that we named Pink Passion This fundraiser raises money to support BCCR (Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester) This is one our Key Clubrsquos bigger fundraisers Each year it is a success it raising money to donate to BCCR

There are multiple activities that collect money for Pink Passion The main part of Pink Passion is a school dress down day On this day students donate $3 in order to dress down wearing something pink and $5 to dress down wearing something that is not pink Each student that paid to dress down receives a pink breast cancer sticker so that teacher can make sure that all students contributed to dress down

In addition to the dress down day baked goods are also sold during student lunches Key Club members bring in fresh baked goods which are sold to the students All of the proceeds raised from the baked goods sale are contributed to Pink Passion

Something new to Pink Passion this year was the sale of raffle tickets and guess how much candy is in the jar Students were able to purchase raffle tickets to win prizes The prizes for the raffle were donated by one of our Key Club members Raffle prizes included a Vera Bradley wristlet and two pink pashminas Students were also able to purchase ldquoguess cardsrdquo to guess how many pink MampMrsquos were in one of two jars The students whose guess was closest to the actual number of MampMrsquos were in the jar was rewarded with the entire jar of candy This year Pink Passion raised a total of $100000 which was donated to BCCR Each year Pink Passion is the first fundraiser organized by the Bishop Kearney Key Club and is a great way to kick off a new Key Club year The success of Pink Passion was thanks to Key Club members in the Pink Passion committee who made posters sold baked goods made baked goods and decorated the school hallways Next year we hope to make Pink Passion an even bigger success and find new ways to collect donations

Webster-Schroeder amp -Thomas Senior Luncheon On Tuesday November 20th Webster School District put on its annual Senior Citizen Luncheon in which the Senior Citizens of the Webster community gather at Webster-Schroeder for music from both schools in the auditorium for the late-morning to early afternoon From there they make their way to the auditorium where they eat a Thanksgiving lunchdinner prepared for them by the kitchen staff of Webster-Schroeder Members of both clubs came together to help serve the Senior Citizens their lunchdinner They had to help seat people take drink orders get the food from the lines and bring it back to the table get the pumpkin pie for everyone at the table clean the tables after and make sure all guests at their tables were happy and were enjoying their time at the school There were over 300 Senior Citizens with about 85 student volunteers There were truly no shortage of smiles at this event as it always is a big draw for students and seniors alike to come together as Thanksgiving nears and for the students to interact and give back to the community and to those who made the community they now live in possible

Paperwork Update Chart

In the coming couple months it should be time for some of you underclassmen to think about running for higher office Lieutenant Governor This is the position I have held for the previous 2 terms and I have enjoyed every minute of it This position includes travelling to Albany for meetings (expense free on your part) e-mailing the clubs going to District and possibly International Convention and much more It is a very fun experience that I hope someone does not miss out on it I have heard from multiple advisors who have suggested some of you This is open to all underclassmen especially those with a passion of helping other Let me know if yoursquore interested District Secretary This position is in part like the club secretary however they are also in charge of the District Directory and collecting and compiling the totals and MRFs from each club District Treasurer This person helps with the dues process and organizing the FRF information that comes in and work with the administrator when coming to FRF monetary information

For the past two years the Bishop Kearney Key Club has organized a fundraiser that we named Pink Passion This fundraiser raises money to support BCCR (Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester) This is one our Key Clubrsquos bigger fundraisers Each year it is a success it raising money to donate to BCCR

There are multiple activities that collect money for Pink Passion The main part of Pink Passion is a school dress down day On this day students donate $3 in order to dress down wearing something pink and $5 to dress down wearing something that is not pink Each student that paid to dress down receives a pink breast cancer sticker so that teacher can make sure that all students contributed to dress down

In addition to the dress down day baked goods are also sold during student lunches Key Club members bring in fresh baked goods which are sold to the students All of the proceeds raised from the baked goods sale are contributed to Pink Passion

Something new to Pink Passion this year was the sale of raffle tickets and guess how much candy is in the jar Students were able to purchase raffle tickets to win prizes The prizes for the raffle were donated by one of our Key Club members Raffle prizes included a Vera Bradley wristlet and two pink pashminas Students were also able to purchase ldquoguess cardsrdquo to guess how many pink MampMrsquos were in one of two jars The students whose guess was closest to the actual number of MampMrsquos were in the jar was rewarded with the entire jar of candy This year Pink Passion raised a total of $100000 which was donated to BCCR Each year Pink Passion is the first fundraiser organized by the Bishop Kearney Key Club and is a great way to kick off a new Key Club year The success of Pink Passion was thanks to Key Club members in the Pink Passion committee who made posters sold baked goods made baked goods and decorated the school hallways Next year we hope to make Pink Passion an even bigger success and find new ways to collect donations

Webster-Schroeder amp -Thomas Senior Luncheon On Tuesday November 20th Webster School District put on its annual Senior Citizen Luncheon in which the Senior Citizens of the Webster community gather at Webster-Schroeder for music from both schools in the auditorium for the late-morning to early afternoon From there they make their way to the auditorium where they eat a Thanksgiving lunchdinner prepared for them by the kitchen staff of Webster-Schroeder Members of both clubs came together to help serve the Senior Citizens their lunchdinner They had to help seat people take drink orders get the food from the lines and bring it back to the table get the pumpkin pie for everyone at the table clean the tables after and make sure all guests at their tables were happy and were enjoying their time at the school There were over 300 Senior Citizens with about 85 student volunteers There were truly no shortage of smiles at this event as it always is a big draw for students and seniors alike to come together as Thanksgiving nears and for the students to interact and give back to the community and to those who made the community they now live in possible

In the coming couple months it should be time for some of you underclassmen to think about running for higher office Lieutenant Governor This is the position I have held for the previous 2 terms and I have enjoyed every minute of it This position includes travelling to Albany for meetings (expense free on your part) e-mailing the clubs going to District and possibly International Convention and much more It is a very fun experience that I hope someone does not miss out on it I have heard from multiple advisors who have suggested some of you This is open to all underclassmen especially those with a passion of helping other Let me know if yoursquore interested District Secretary This position is in part like the club secretary however they are also in charge of the District Directory and collecting and compiling the totals and MRFs from each club District Treasurer This person helps with the dues process and organizing the FRF information that comes in and work with the administrator when coming to FRF monetary information

For the first time the Bishop Kearney Key Club organized a fundraiser which we like to call Feed a Family This fundraiser collected money to support the Open Door Mission Feed a Family was a competition between SAP (Student Activity Period) rooms to see which room could collect the most money for the fundraiser The SAP room that collected the most money was rewarded with a formal Thanksgiving lunch and early dismissal after the lunch The Distillery donated two fresh turkeys and the entire Thanksgiving meal was prepared by Keenanrsquos Restaurant The goal for Feed a Family was set at $100000 At the school-wide assembly that kicked off the fundraiser Mr Miller the Bishop Kearney Dean of Students promised students a dress down day if the goal was exceeded We were surprised to see how involved and generous students were For this reason we raised more than double the amount of our original goal Students were donating large sums of money not even worrying about if they won the Thanksgiving lunch or not Students donated out of pure generosity The total amount raised in the Feed a Family fundraiser which was donated to the Open Door Mission was an amazing $257500 Since the total raised far exceeded that of our original goal Mr Miller not only awarded Bishop Kearney students with a dress down day but also a sneaker week During sneaker week students will be able to wear any shoes with their normal uniform rather than the regular dress shoes Feed a Family marks the most successful fundraiser that the Bishop Kearney Key Club has ever had So successful that Michael Hennessy Open Door Mission Executive Direction and Chris Scribani Director of Development and Communications visited Bishop Kearney to thank the school Giuliana Pietrantoni Bishop Kearney Key Club President and Christine Reiss Key Club Editor presented the check to the representatives from the Open Door Mission on the Bishop Kearney morning news broadcast Presentation of the check to Open Door Mission representative was also covered by WHEC channel 10 local news station The money donated to the Open Door Mission was used to feed over 5000 people Thanksgiving dinner this Thanksgiving The success of this fundraiser is thanks to the Feed a Family committee of Bishop Kearney Key Club members who collected money from SAP rooms counted and recorded totals for each room made posters and encouraged students to contribute The Bishop Kearney Key Club plans to organize this fundraiser annually for many years to come
