NOVEMBER
2012
Pastor’s Remarks
I hope you will consider these important things as we enter a very busy season of the year.
NOVEMBER IS STEWARDSHIP MONTH
All we have has been given to us by our Lord and He has commissioned us to be managers of these gifts until He returns
(Luke 19:11-27). It is a huge responsibility. It is kingdom business. Fall is the traditional time to evaluate our
stewardship because we are starting to think about the end of one calendar year and just beginning to look ahead to the
new year and new opportunities before us. We ask ourselves how am I doing as a manager of my gifts of time, talent
and treasure. Are we faithful?
This year, our Stewardship Team is asking us to remember that our church and its work are important and well worth the
investment of our gifts. When we invest our time, talent and treasure in kingdom business, the dividends are far beyond
what we may immediately discern. For example, a check placed in the offering plate helps fund a Vacation Bible School
ministry where a child may for the first time hear about a God who loves them. That seed planted may bear fruit years
later. Time contributed to helping out in a nursery or as a youth counselor may impact the life on a young man or
woman who later enters a ministry which in turn impacts multiples of other lives. You never know how God will use
what we offer Him!
Our denomination asks every member to be faithful to uphold our church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service and
witness- Stewardship 101. As we evaluate our stewardship in the month of November, every member will be asked to
“re-up”. We will have opportunity to be very specific in expressing our stewardship on Stewardship Sunday, November
18, by returning an Every Member Commitment Form to the church during worship that day.
Keep your eye on the mailbox this month. Prayerfully complete the form and return it to the church as you come to
worship on November 18. The messages during November will be calling us to consider these things- so pray for the
month, pray for the messages, and pray for our church.
CHARGE CONFERENCE IS NOVEMBER 7
Our annual charge conference will take place as part of the Wonderful Wednesday program on November 7. Our guest
will be the Rev. Tom Ballard, District Superintendent of the Morristown District. You will have the opportunity to meet
him, break bread with him and “bend his ear” as well, if you have that need. His primary purpose for being here will be
to preside over the Charge conference- an annual gathering of the church in which we review where we have been and
look forward to the future. Necessary business that can only be done by the Charge Conference is carried out as well.
This year’s Charge Conference will be convened as a “Church Conference” in which every member present will have a
voice and a vote. We will have a good meal, too, so come on out.
WE NEED SOME HELP, TOO!
Our Worship Committee has elected to change the format of the annual “Meet Me at the Manger” from an indoor choral
presentation to an outdoor Living Nativity. We have ample talent to do the staging and fill the parts of the cast, we just
need a Coordinator who will provide direction for this event. If you are this person, please volunteer by contacting
Becky Mallory, Worship Chairperson, or the Pastor.
Our Finance Committee has selected November 17 as the day for a Breakfast and Silent Auction Fundraiser. We need
volunteers who are willing to call on several area merchants to solicit donations of items for the silent auction. We have
the contact list. All we need are volunteers to make the contacts. If you can help, please contact any member of the
Finance Committee or the Pastor.
Thanks for your prayerful support of these important things. Pastor Stuart

WE SEEK A VITAL CHURCH
Please keep these 16 “drivers” in mind as you pray for our church
and we seek together to be a vital congregation.
These 16 are the very things that characterize growing churches. 1. More small groups for all ages
2. More programs for children
3. More programs for youth
4. Effective lay leadership
5. Lay leadership that exhibits vital personal faith
6. A rotation of lay leadership to involve more people over time.
7. 20% or more of the worshiping congregation are current or past leaders in their church.
8. Pastors who develop and mentor lay leadership to equip them to carry out ministry.
9. Pastors who enlist the participation of others in accomplishing needed changes in the church.
10. Pastors who lead the congregation in setting and achieving significant goals.
11. Pastors who are effective preachers.
12. Pastors who stay for a long time (when they are serving effectively).
13. Worship services are a mix of traditional and contemporary.
14. Messages in worship are topical.
15. Use of contemporary music (not blended) in contemporary services.
16. Use of multi-media in worship
The Lord satisfies the thirsty,
and the hungry He fills with
good things. Psalm 107:9

BROOKS BEQUEST NEWS

The deadline for the scholarship applications

Time to Say, Thanks!
Being thankful for one’s circumstances, regrettably, is not
always automatic. So, it is great to live in a great country that
sets aside a day of thanks …and the reminder to think of faith
and family. So I’ll say ‘thanks’ right now.
Trinity is special because of all of you who have chosen it to
be your church home. I see this from the unique perspective of
Trinity’s music; I admire its past, relish its present and advocate
for its future. I am blessed to be a part of TUMC music’s tradi-
tion of excellence.
Special thanks goes to Jamie Walker, Rebekah McGill and
Karen Malloch for their quietly effective leadership of ‘music for
all ages’: adults, children and youth.
Special thanks goes to ‘Sunday Special-ists’: Josh Bolling,
organist; Jessica Keup, pianist, Lyle Monteith, sound engineer
…and a reminder of Kathy Hoard’s many years on the piano
bench.
Special thanks goes to ‘Seasonal Special-ists’: instrumental-
ists, narrators, ‘journalist’, costumer, and soloists who have
brought Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas to LIFE!
Unending thanks goes to a chancel choir who shares the sin-
cere message of the Word each week as they lead in worship.
This is a special ‘small group’ that cares for the church and com-
munity …and each other. Wow!!

A UNIQUE NEED A person in our community needs a serviceable car in order to
get to her job. If you have a car you would be willing to donate
to the church as a tax deduction, we could make it available to
her at no charge. This is unique, but our Lord is able to meet
needs beyond what we ask or think. Contact the pastor for more
information.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
On Sunday evening, August 5, Buffalo Mountain Camp experi-
enced significant flash flooding. Thankfully, all summer camp-
ers, staff, and guests had returned to their homes, but the dam-
age to the camp facilities, roads and trails was severe. There are
multiple ways you can help and the best way to stay informed is
on the website: www.buffalomountiancamp.org. On that web-
site, you can sign up to be a part of volunteer work teams and
get updates on volunteer needs. You may make monetary con-
tributions on-line or by a check payable to the church, but desig-
nated "Buffalo Mountain" in the memo line. There is also a
need for cleaning buckets. Visit www.umcor.org, click on "relief
supplies" link and then the "Cleaning Bucket" link. Buckets are
being collected at the Morristown District Office and at Asbury
UMC in Greeneville. If you are not web-active and want to
help, contact the church office.
