November 2015
Important Dates
Welcome to the Counselor’s Corner! Inside you will find important dates as
well as information to help your student succeed at Lakeview Jr. High School!
Congratulations to the November
Students of the Month!
Each month Lakeview Junior High students are recognized as Students of the Month. These students are chosen for going above and beyond in areas such as academics and citizenship, for contributions to the school and community, and for being caring and respectful role models for other students. This is an opportunity for teachers and staff alongside parents to honor students demonstrating excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, attitude, behavior, responsibility, and character. Student of the Month names are listed on plaques and monthly pictures are posted in the entrance hallway of Lakeview. Thank you to students, parents, teachers, and staff for all you do to make Lakeview Junior High an exceptional place to learn!

Stress Management: Feeling Frazzled?!?
Tips for coping and managing stress
Tips for Junior High Students: There is a typical amount of stress everyone may experience.
However, for some students, stress may become overwhelming. Here are some tips that can help lower stress levels:
• Take a time-out. Practice yoga, listen to music, or learn relaxation techniques. Stepping back from the problem helps clear your head.
• Eat well-balanced meals. Do not skip any meals. Breakfast is an important way to start the day.
• Limit caffeine, which can aggravate anxiety and make it difficult for students to focus in the classroom setting.
• Get enough sleep. When stressed, your body needs additional rest. • Exercise daily to help you feel good and maintain your health. • Take deep breaths. Inhale and exhale slowly. • Count to 10 slowly. Repeat, and count to 20 if necessary. • Do your best. Focus on learning instead of perfection. • Accept that you cannot control everything. Put your stress in
perspective: Is it really as bad as you think? • Welcome humor. A good laugh goes a long way. • Maintain a positive attitude. Make an effort to replace negative
thoughts with positive ones. • Get involved. Participating in school groups creates a support
network and gives you a break from everyday stress. • Learn what triggers your anxiety. Write in a journal when you’re
feeling stressed and look for a pattern. • Talk to someone. Tell family and friends or a trusted adult you’re
feeling overwhelmed, and let them know how they can help you.
