Hanging of the Greens TODAY!

It is time to decorate the church & First Place for Christmas! Many, many hands are needed so please stay after the 10:45am services to help. There are jobs for all ages.

New Series Begins

Do you struggle at Christmas time with how many presents to buy, which parties to attend or fixing the perfect meal? Then come journey with us, starting next week, as we explore the ultimate gift at our contemporary worship services @ First Place 9:30 or 10:45am.

New Member Class If you would like to join the church, there will be a New Member Class held on Sun, Dec 9 at 9:30am in Room 311.

First Friend of the Week: (take a moment to send a note/card to our First Friend.)

Happy 80th Birthday-Nov 26

Community Thanksgiving Service

The service will be held at the United Church of Christ, 124 S. Market St., (behind First Place) on Tues, Nov 26 @ 7pm. You may remember years ago, Troy had a “Council of the Churches.” Over the years that group faded away. Pastor Dave and Jack Hoekstra recently hosted a luncheon at First Place and invited area Pastors. Over 25 attended and a new group has been resurrected and is now known as the Troy Area Clergy Association. This year’s Thanksgiving Service will be their first event.

Christmas Eve Greeters & Ushers Needed

Families or individuals are needed to serve as greeters / ushers for the traditional Christmas Eve services at 7, 9, and 11. The responsibilities include welcoming our guests, handing out bulletins, and collecting the offering. The 11pm service will also require assisting with communion.

Two families have already volunteered to serve at 5pm.

Please call Steve Johnson at 339-9512 if you are willing to serve or have any questions.”

For anybody strongly considering going on the trip, you should start the process for getting a passport if you don't already have one, and also look into immunizations. Christmas Mail for Heros Each year the American Red Cross provides assistance to more than 2 million service members and many of our nation’s 24 million veterans. And once a year, they get the joy of delivering holiday greetings to veterans, military families and active-duty service members at hospitals and installations around the world.

The cards and personal messages, sent by tens of thousands of Americans, provide a welcome “touch of home” for our troops during the holiday season. Each year we collect cards between October and early December and then distribute them at military installations, veterans hospitals, and in other locations.

There are several ways to be part of the Christmas Mail for Heroes program. In addition to sending cards on your own, you may want to start making plans to host card signing parties or card making parties. Here are a few guidelines to help you on your way:

Card Guidelines: Every card received will be screened for hazardous materials and then reviewed by

Red Cross volunteers working around the country. Please observe the following guidelines to ensure a quick reviewing process: Ensure that all cards are signed.

Use generic salutations such as “Dear

Service Member.” Cards addressed to

specific individuals cannot be delivered

through this program. Only cards are being accepted. Do not send

or include letters.

Do not include email or home addresses on

the cards: the program is not meant to foster pen pal relationships.

Do not include inserts of any kind, including

photos: these items will be removed during the reviewing process.

Please refrain from choosing cards with

glitter or using loose glitter as it can

aggravate health issues of ill and injured warriors.

If you are mailing a large quantity of cards,

please bundle them and place them in large mailing envelopes or flat rate postal

shipping boxes. Each card does not need its

own envelope, as envelopes will be removed from all cards before distribution.

All holiday greetings should be addressed: Holiday Mail for Heroes

P.O. Box 5456 Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

The deadline for having cards to the P.O. Box is December 6th.

Holiday cards received after this date cannot be guaranteed delivery.

Kyle School Christmas Outreach

Our church is a community partner with Kyle School and we have several opportunities to participate in meaningful activities for the students during this Christmas season: 1) Sign up in the Gathering room to volunteer at their Christmas Gala on Sat, Dec 7 in the morning. 2) Donate a dollar towards their Gala breakfast at the dollar collection on Sun Dec 1. 3) Select an ornament off the green trees on Nov 24 & Dec 1 to purchase gifts for Kyle students and their siblings. Specific directions will be provided on Nov 24 but gifts need to be returned to the church by Sun, Dec 8. The families we help are nominated by teachers and guidance counselors. They do not participate in the Partners in Hope Christmas but both projects are important. We appreciate your support. The FUMC Outreach Committee

Sun, Dec 15 @ 8:15 & 10:45 am Often the Christmas season becomes all about the manger, but

the manger is only the beginning of God's plan. We will find the redemption and peace we seek because the manger is empty, and

Jesus is in the world.

Your Christmas celebration can last the whole year long because of His promise.

"Stay in My love, and I will be with you to the end of the age!"

Choral Anthem “Celtic Laud” Text: Pam Martin Music: Craig Courtney

For fruit of the vine,

For harvest of wheat, For bread and for wine,

The gift of your feast,

The cup of thanksgiving I gratefully raise,

O Lord of my living, My love and my praise.

For dove in the sky,

For wind in the trees,

For coal in the fire, Your Spirit in me,

The cup of thanksgiving

I gratefully raise, O Lord of my living

My love and my praise.

For springtime’s green earth,

For morning’s first light, For every new birth,

For grace and for life, The cup of thanksgiving

I gratefully raise,

O Lord of my living My love and my praise.

The Altar flowers are presented to the Glory of God by Myrna Yoder, with a grateful heart for family and friends.
