Why Olweus?1. PA has mandated bullying prevention policies for

all school districts.

2. Elanco applied for and received grant monies for bullying prevention.

3. Olweus is widely regarded as the most successful bullying prevention program.

4. It specifically addresses the bullying prevention component of our existing Safe and Civil Schools initiative which is designed to improve overall school safety and climate.

When will Olweus be fully implemented?

August 2010

What are some of the components and timeline of the plan?

Beginning December 2009: Dramatic increase in supervision in hallways during whole school transitions.

December 7, 2009: Revised recess and cafeteria dismissal plan.

Winter 2010: School wide positive reinforcement plan.

February 12, 2009 in service: Faculty training

Summer 2010: Support staff training

September 2010: Reinforce existing school rules with more specific anti-bullying language

September 2010: School wide reporting and consequences.

Voluntary March 2009, Required September 2010: 20-30 minute class meetings once a week/cycle
