HANDS-ON WORKSHOP ON SUTURES TECHNIQUES IN PERIODONTAL AND IMPLANT SURGERYPresentation of different clinical scenarios were different suturing techniques are indicated: - Coronally advanced flap

- Apically repositioned flap

- Connective tissue graft stabilization

- Periodontal regeneration with mini flaps

- Periodontal regeneration with extended flaps

- Socket wound management

- Basic implant surgery

- Advanced Implant surgery

All these procedures and the suturing techniques will be explained and performed live by the Professor and made by the participants.

INNOVATIVE CONCEPTS FOR PREDICTABLE TREATMENT OF SOFT TISSUE RECESSIONS AT TEETH AND DENTAL IMPLANTSInnovative concepts for predictable treatment of soft tissue recessions at teeth and dental implants. This course addresses general dentists and periodontists who intend to learn more about the use of plastic-aesthetic procedures in periodontology aiming to increase the predictability of treating soft tissue defects at teeth and dental implants.

Theoretical partIn this part an overview on the surgical techniques and different materials used to treat single and multiple adjacent gingival recessions will be presented. Furthermore, it will provide a comprehensive treatment philosophy of the surgical risk factors which need to be considered to optimize the results and which are the limits of the treatment. The available evidence from the literature suggests that different types of coronally advanced flaps or the Modified Coronally Advanced Tunnel (MCAT) combined with connective tissue grafts (CTG), enamel matrix derivative or both may indeed result in predictable coverage of Miller Class I, II and III recessions while coverage of Miller Class IV recessions or papilla reconstruction is still not predictable. However, the use of connective tissue grafts is accompanied by an increase in patient morbidity and duration of surgical time while in many patients, harvesting of sufficient amounts of connective tissue is limited due to obvious anatomical considerations. In order to minimize these inconveniences, the use of alternative materials to CTG, such as newly developed collagen membranes are of pertinent clinical interest. Recent data from histological and clinical studies seem also to indicate that the use of certain collagen membranes alone or in combination with enamel matrix proteins may also lead to substantial root coverage, thus improving patient acceptance and reducing morbidity. Moreover, recent results also indicate that MCAT combined with CTG may, in certain cases, lead to coverage of soft tissue recessions at dental implants. Surgical videos and presentations of clinical cases will demonstrate these techniques.

Practical part

- Modified coronally advanced tunnel (MCAT) for the treatment of multiple adjacent gingival recessions using connective tissue graft with or without enamel matrix proteins and collagen membranes.

- Connective tissue graft harvesting technique.

- Suturing techniques to close the palatal donor site.

- Suturing techniques to fix the connective tissue graft or collagen membranes.

- Suturing techniques to coronally advance the flaps.

- Practical model used : PIG LOWER JAW (PIG MANDIBLES)
