Advent by Candlelight

Advent by Candlelight will be hosted by CD of A on

November 27th at 6:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus

Hall. Join us to kick off this Advent season!

Lynn’s Music Notes Happy New Year! Today is the first Sunday of

Advent and we begin the cycle A readings in the

lectionary. A song that I love to dust off every

Advent is “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” I

appreciate how the liturgical seasons change in our Catholic

tradition. Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent and

Easter each have music that is most fitting for the season. I

even appreciate the change of weather as we move from fall

to winter, which reminds me, it’s time to dust off and dig out

the winter coats, snow boots and gloves!

A Tweet from Pope Francis

“We entrust the life of the Church, all humanity,

and the entire cosmos to the Lord, asking him to

pour out his mercy upon us.”

“Many peoples shall come and say: ‘Come, let us go up to

the LORD’s mountain, to the house of the God of Jacob,

That he may instruct us in his ways, and we may walk in

his paths.’ For from Zion shall go forth instruction, and

the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.” ~ Isaiah 2:3

Scrip Cards: For All Your Holiday Shopping Needs!

Looking to go shopping for those awesome holiday deals? Give back this holiday season by purchasing Scrip cards for your

shopping and gift-giving needs! Gift cards make great Christmas gifts, and when you use Scrip through St. John’s, a

percentage of that card goes back to help our students and school. Scrip cards can be purchased at the Ministry Center during

regular hours, Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. or after any weekend Mass at St. John’s. To place an order for

Christmas, please have your Scrip orders in by Monday, December 19th for guaranteed arrival Wednesday, December 21st.

Delphos Community Christmas Project

The Delphos Community Christmas Project committee sincerely thanks each person and group who has made any

contribution in the past. Last year, 360 children living in the Delphos school district were provided with toys and clothing

and 153 fruit plates were delivered to our elderly and shut-in residents. Food baskets were also provided for 159 families.

The committee begins its work in early November. The names of those in need come in, the families are interviewed, and

their needs are established. After this, the shoppers go to work!

We deliver the gifts and fruit plates with the help of St. John and Jefferson students. Our delivery day this year will be

Tuesday, December 20th, 2016.

The names of children needing clothing and toys, persons needing food or shut-ins to be remembered with a fruit plate

should be sent to: Community Christmas Project, General Delivery, Delphos, Ohio 45833. Monetary donations may also be

sent to the same address. Thank you for helping the less fortunate in our community. Any questions or concerns may be

directed to Edna Fischer, chairwoman (419-692-8818).
