I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. We, on the other hand, have been busily packing in as much new information as we can! The GISA conference was spectacular! We really need another day to organize and process all of the information we gleaned. We continue to meet with vendors who can assist us in expanding our assistive technology and address the ever growing curriculum needs. Thank you, PAC, for sponsoring our teaching staff for this exciting and vital opportunity. We were able to learn new things, interact with our peers from other schools and take some time to reflect on what we are doing and how we can do it even better! If that is not enough, we are also fully into planning second semester. So many good ideas and so little time to fit them all into our school day! High School parents, please look at the elective forms carefully. We offer an incredible array of opportunities, many of which meet specific requirements toward graduation. All of which, of course, count toward graduation. We are also working on expanding our calendar of community service options as well as opportunities for parents to interact with each other. We are so appreciative of the staff and parent volunteers who continually devote their free time to school related activities. Each minute enriches our environment! Our basketball season is off to a great start! Thanks to all who attended the kick off games last week. The combination of our new students and our veteran students creates a very vibrant team combination!! We are coming off of an incredibly successful fall array of competitive sports. Soccer, Volleyball and Cross Country efforts made us all very proud. As we move to the indoor sports, we would like to send out a reminder about how much our sportsmanship matters! TCS has a reputation of being accepting and respectful. When we cheer from the stands, please remember to cheer from the positive…send encouragement, not criticism. I cannot speak for the fans from other schools, but I do know that we cherish and protect our positive reputation. Let’s not let our emotions take the attention from the efforts of our athletes to the regrettable behavior of our fans! Please consider volunteering for the concessions!! Lynn Haas reports that we have received the thank you letter from the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Breast Cancer Awareness efforts of our campus! I hope you had a chance to see the human pink ribbon our students and staff created in our gym! Quite a sight! I love that our kids are so responsive to the needs of others….they are active and generous members of their community! It has been years since we had a video of our students and campus. We have now started filming for our latest edition and we are so excited! Last week we had current parents, students and staff, board members and alumni families and students tape their comments. This week we will be filming in classes and around the campus. The message that is coming through loud and clear is that TCS is a place where a teen Can Do It. It is all about success!
RSVP for MOVIE NIGHT THIS SATURDAY!

Jacque’s Note
Waiting for the right
moment to contribute to
the Key Annual Fund?
That Moment is Now!!
The Key Annual Fund is the single largest source of non-tuition revenue for independent
schools such as TCS. A strong and growing Annual Fund enables the school to initiate
new programs, expand the curriculum, and offer innovative learning experiences for all
students. The Key Annual Fund directly benefits each student at TCS through updated
curriculum materials, staff development programs, student activities, athletics, and
technology upgrades.
Parent support of the Annual Fund is key to obtaining support from foundations
for special projects, such as our new multi-purpose athletic facility. One of the first
questions a foundation asks when reviewing a grant proposal is “What percentage of
your parents participates in the Annual Fund?”
In 2010-11, 63% of TCS parents supported the Key Annual Fund. To date, 43% of
parents have made a pledge or contribution to the 2011-12 Key Annual Fund. This is a
fantastic start, but we do have a long way to go! We need the commitment of each and
every family to this crucial campaign. All gifts are valued—no gift is too small; no
gift is too large!
If you have not already pledged, you can contribute online through our secure server at
www.cottageschool.org --look for the “Donations Link” on the right sidebar. If you prefer,
a contribution form is included in this packet.
If we don’t hear from you, our friendly Annual Fund Committee Class Chairs will be
calling to secure your support. Avoid a phone call—make your pledge today!

DRESS FOR SUCCESS
THURSDAYS Every Thursday, join us in taking a step up in your dress code!
Students are encouraged to “dress for success” - preparing for
the next level in business dress: suits, ties, jackets, slacks, dress
shoes for men; suits, dresses, skirts and blouses, and
appropriate heels for ladies.
See Ali for more details or to check in!
Dressing for the business world, a fancy
dinner, or a job interview creates so
many questions…
How do I wear a suit jacket?
How do I tie a tie?
What shoes are the right shoes?
Are slacks ok for ladies?
What jewelry is appropriate?
Now is the time to
start working on it,
High Schoolers!!!

Senior Trip – Reminder:
2nd
payment due Friday, Nov. 11th
!
Our senior trip has been planned for May 5th – May 10th, 2012. It will be a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas aboard the Carnival Sensation. We will sail out of Port Canaveral, Florida, making stops in Freeport and Nassau (these stops are subject to change). This will be a wonderful opportunity for the seniors to spend time together, making lasting memories. We would like all of our seniors to be able to participate in this event. But, this trip should be considered a privilege, something to be earned. For a student to be eligible to participate in this trip, they will need to be current with all of their schoolwork, with satisfactory grades in each of their classes. Their academic success must come first! In addition, we expect each student to demonstrate mature, responsible and trustworthy behavior throughout the school year. Student safety will be our primary concern and we will do everything in our power to ensure this. The cost of the trip will be $850.00. This includes port charges, taxes and all gratuities. This also includes round trip transportation between The Cottage School and Tampa on a deluxe motor coach (with TV’s and a bathroom). The payments will be collected in three parts: 1. $200.00 deposit due 10/07/11 2. $300.00 payment due 11/11/11 3. $350.00 payment due 01/27/11 PASSPORT REMINDER: If your student’s passport is out of date, or if they do not yet have one, please go ahead and apply. It can take a while for the process to be completed. We will be asking for photocopies of everyone’s passport in advance of the trip. If you already have a valid passport, you may go ahead and send in the photocopy. Contact Ryan Lafitte ([email protected]) if you have any other questions about the senior trip.
