National Children’s Day November 20th, 2015

What is National Child Day? National Child Day is celebrated in Canada on November 20 in recognition of the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. It is the perfect time for young Canadians to express themselves and shape their own future.

How to Celebrate National Child Day Learn more. Read about National Child Day and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Empower young people to use their voice. Download the youth-friendly version of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to remind our children and youth about their rights - and how they can protect the rights of others. Raise awareness. Use social media to start conversations about National Child Day with friends, family members or co-workers.

From the desk of Louise: Parent Accounts Manager

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving and a spooktacular Hallowe’en! It has been an amazing fall!

Parents-we are now offering etransfers for a payment method. If you would like to change let me know and we can send you the etransfer form.

Providers-just a few reminders. If a child is absent for 3 days you MUST let me know. This may affect your invoice! Also the contract that a parent signs states that they must give a 2 week written termination notice. If a parent lets you know please request a letter that you can sign and forward to the office.

With registrations we have noticed parents calling in to register and expecting to start the very next day. We do our very best but by the time the registration package is sent out and received back filled out (completely and correctly) it may not be the next day. Hayley will call when the registration is complete and will get the required information to you before care starts. DO NOT accept children if you have not received a call from Hayley or received the information!

See you at the Turkey Dinner in December! Remember to RSVP!

From the desk of Susan: Director

Get your calendars out! Some exciting events coming up: March 5, Save the Date for the Annual Provider Confer-

ence (this year we are featuring the Bucket Lady, for more info visit www.bucketfillers101.com. Watch for more

info and early bird pricing to come in the next month or two.

It’s that time of year where we get to shine and show the great things we are up to. Some time in the next couple

of months we should be receiving our annual visit from Child and Family Services. Please make sure to invite

them in and show them around if they happen to pick your home for a tour.

National Child Day happens every year November 20. This year’s theme is The Right to Learn, and our city has

some fantastic opportunities (free skating, swimming, tumble time, workshops on the importance of learning

through play) Ask your Consultant or check our Facebook page to see how you can participate in celebrating our

Children.

Playpens! Please replace your playpens with cribs (for under 12months) or mats. Cribs purchased in Canada

should meet all the requirements. If you’re interest in cots from Wintergreen please ask your Consultant about our

COUPON.

RSVP is filling up fast for our Turkey Dinner, please call to get your name on the list!!!

From the desk of Laura: Invoicing

Thank you to all of the providers who came to our In-service on the 14th! We had a smaller turn-out, but may great questions were asked and hopefully you all left with the answers you needed. We will be organizing another early in the New Year so if you have recently opened your day home you will be able to attend, we look forward to seeing you.

Please note that your invoices and provider support funding forms as well as the children’s attendance records are legal documents; they must be filled out accurately, initialed daily and signed at the end of each month. Photos of invoices and timesheets are often very blurry, dark, and hard to read, making them difficult to process. We can accept your invoice by fax or as a scanned document, or you can drop it off at the office. The fax # is 403-240-2668 and the email to send your paperwork to is : [email protected]

I am available Monday-Friday from 8:30-3:30 to answer any of your invoicing questions. :)

Accreditation Reminder of the Month

Find the Accreditation Standards here:

http://humanservices.alberta.ca/documents/accreditation-standards.pdf

Standard 2.4: Child care programs use observation, recording, and documentation to plan the program based on

the needs, abilities and interests of the children and their

experiences with families and communities.

Some examples of this include:

Plan routines appropriate for the developmental levels of the children

Review information shared by families to inform planning

Invite children to participate in the development of program planning, routines and rules

Provide the children opportunities to share and display their learning

How can you get the parents involved in helping you with your monthly program planning? What ideas do they have that

they can share with you? What can the children do to help you with program planning? (For older children) What do they

like to do? Get some ideas from them! Do you display the things that they are learning? Take pictures and print them to put

on your walls! The children can even draw pictures that you can put on display.

What Parents are Saying

About: Rowena D.

I love Rowena's day home because I can see that she takes care of the kids with immense attention and interacts with them a lot. My son, A, has learnt a lot from Rowena with his alphabets and numbers. Although the day home is quite a dis-tant from my residence, I don't mind sending him there as he is comfortable and happy with Rowena.

What Parents are Saying

About: Dammi W.

T is cared for like Dammi's own biological child! The way we know this is through T's excitement and constant mention of Dammi and all the kids she plays with at home! When we drop her in the morning she can't wait to take her shoes off and play and when we pick her up she is hesitant to leave!

What Parents are Saying

About: Sally O.

My day home provider Sally has her own chil-dren at the house. My daughter always says "that is B’s mommy, but she is my Sally." She always makes my child feel just as special as her own.

What Parents are Saying

About: Rita W.

It is a very safe, fun and comfortable place for me to take my child to every day. I have enjoyed and appreciated her day home very much it is a very fun, safe and comfortable place for my daughter and I would recommend it to anyone.
