The witnessThe witnessThe witnessThe witness A PUBLICATION OF TOMS BROOK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH– NOVEMBER 2016
Greengs my friends in the Name of the Lord!
We live in troubling mes both here at home and overseas. One
could be quite afraid, especially if one watched the nightly news
which always seems to sensaonalize the worst of humanity. Yet, for God’s people,
there is another way, and it is the way of peace. Jesus le" us with a gi" as He says in
John 14:27, “I am leaving you with a gi"—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I
give is a gi" the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
If there is one thing I would like to have a lot of it is, “peace of heart and
mind.” Jesus actually commands us not to be afraid or troubled so how might I obey
this command? Well, it is going to be hard to do this if I am filling my mind with a
connuous stream of negavity like the nightly news or websites that promote trag-
edy. What to do then? Here is what I do on a daily basis. I replace the negavity
with things that are posive, specifically things that involve Jesus. I get out my “read
through the Bible in two years’ guide” and start reading again. Or I get a cup of
coffee and sit in a quiet place and talk to Jesus. I go visit a friend. Perhaps call some-
one I haven’t talked to in a while, just to catch up. Then I noce, amazingly, that I
am at peace.
Let us pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thank You for the gi" of
peace of heart and mind. Help me pa;ern my life so that I may live in Your peace
every day. In Jesus Name, Amen.”
The peace of God be with you,
Pastor Stan

On Sunday, October 16, Ethan Funk was presented with his
Eagle Scout Merit Badge.
Ethan started Scouting while in Elementary school. He was a Cub Scout
when the Toms Brook Methodist Church sponsored a troop here. Ethan
then joined Troop 575, sponsored by the Woodstock Moose. His leaders
while in scouts were Lisa Currie, Troop Leader for Cub Scouts and Boy
Scouts. Steve Snarr and Don Hindman in Boy Scouts. Ethan attended
summer camp many years and received the Top Shot award for shooting
skills his final year at Camp Rock Enon. He was also tapped out for
Order of The Arrow, which is an honor organization in the scouting organization.
Ethan’s Eagle Project was to redo and update two camp sites at the Elizabeth Furnace

The Eagle Scout Award is the highest honor awarded in Scouting and represents many years of
community work, individual accomplishments, and hours and hours of work.
Thank you to all who have supported Ethan in his years of Scouting. If you know of a boy that
would be interested in scouting, please reach out to them and encourage them to become in-
