HEALTH MINISTRY
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Prayer shawls are available for sharing (pick one up on the rack in the Friendship Room & fill out a slip). Also prayer shawl kits can be picked up if you can crochet or knit...!! NOTE: If you wish to donate to this ministry we prefer Lion Brand “Pound of Love” yarn. Or monetary donations are most welcome!
Preparing for the Big Trip:
What Christians Should Consider as They Get Older
Ask any adult what they consider the most powerful experiences they
have ever had and you will likely hear birth stories, when life begins,
and closing stories, when we say goodbye to loved ones. We spend a
huge amount of energy preparing for entry into this world and very
little preparing for the exit. Bring up the subject of end-of-life and we
expect to hear someone say, “Can’t we talk about something more
pleasant?”
Dr. Jim Deming is an experienced hospice and palliative care physician
from Eau Claire who has accompanied many, many people on their
final journey. He is coming to Our Savior Lutheran Church between
services on Sunday, November 17th to share how preparing for a
smooth landing doesn’t have to be unpleasant and in fact can be a rich
and rewarding experience.
Bring your questions and prepare to leave feeling a little better.
Thanks to member Sheri Nero for her presentation on Living With
Losses Through the Eyes of a Sociologist at our 10/20 Health Forum.

Care Packages for College Students and Military
Personnel: Donations and Addresses Needed
If you know of a college/university/technical college student or
military personnel who would enjoy receiving a care package from
their church family, please contact Kelly Jensen at [email protected]
with their current address.
If you would like to donate snacks or other small items to put in the
care packages, such as bars, cookies, candies, shelf-stable packaged
mixes like hot chocolate or macaroni, please have the items to
church by November 20th, when the high school students will
package and ship the care packages. Donations for postage on the
packages are appreciated as well.
Thanksgiving Meals for Community Members
In November we will be collecting donations of food items for
Thanksgiving meals to be distributed to families in need. Please go
to the turkey in the Friendship Room to choose one of the slips of
paper with the items you would like to donate. You may drop off
your donations at Christ Lutheran Church between Nov 17 and Nov
20. High school and middle school students are welcome to help
pack those meals on Sunday Nov 24 at noon at Christ Lutheran.
Those who help pack the meals will share some pizza together!
YOUTH MINISTRY
Oaklawn Elementary School
OSL has an exciting new opportunity for outreach ministry. We
have begun a relationship with Oaklawn Elementary, our
neighborhood elementary school. The hope is to establish a
group of people to help at the school either on a regular basis
or occasionally. We want it to match your schedule as well as
what you are comfortable doing as a volunteer. Please contact
Pastor Sarah and she will put you in touch with the Oaklawn
contact from our congregation.
Winter Haven
Winter Haven is homeless shelter here in Menomonie run by
Stepping Stones. The shelter is open Nov 15- Mar 15 from
7:30pm until 7:30am. Volunteers are needed to staff the
shelter overnight. Each night consists of two shifts 7:30pm-
1:30am and 1:30am-7:30am (two volunteers serve at each shift).
Volunteers typically sign up for just one shift a night, but you
can do both if you wish. Winter Haven provides all of the
training you need to feel comfortable and safe as a
volunteer! If you’re interested in learning more about this
opportunity, please contact Pastor Sarah.

the trucks so we could deliver the quilts and kits to Eau Claire. Without these donations of time and gifts, we
wouldn’t be able to make our quilts. Here is the run-down on where they went in 2019.
