Our study will focus mostly on King David and will use the recent TV series ‘Kings’ as a resource. David is one of the most recognizable figures in the Old Testament, and there’s very little wonder as to why: shepherd turned giant- killing hero, turned King, and labeled “the man after God’s own heart.” While David’s story seems too good to be true, part of what makes David’s story so interesting is not his successes, but his failures. David was human, and like many of us succumbed to temptation; he gave in to the allure of power, was corrupted by material gains, committed adultery, and even had a man killed. Despite all his shortcomings, David still found himself on his face before God, repenting and once again, seeking God’s heart, finding that forgiveness and grace he so longed for. We can learn a lot from figures like David. How often do we find ourselves giving in to the temptations around us; being overly interested in power, wealth, and material gain? Like David, we also find ourselves time and again humbled before God, seeking to follow God’s heart, repenting, and finding that forgiveness. Perhaps we shouldn’t aim to BE LIKE David, but we can certainly LEARN FROM him. STUDENTNovember 2010

A monthly update and reminder of the happenings, goings-on, events, activities, and everything else related to the PBC Student Ministry!

A PUBLICATION OF THE PARKWAY STUDENT MINISTRYThe purpose of the Parkway Student Ministry is to teach young people to GROW in their relationship with God, FELLOWSHIP with other teens, REACH OUT to their peers, and SERVE others.

This month, and next, with only a few

weeks left of 2010 (hard to believe!) we will be

starting a new Wednesday night bible study

titled ‘Kings’. We will spend 5 weeks looking at

the lives and stories of some of the Kings found

in the Old Testament. Our study will focus

mostly on King David and will use the recent TV

series ‘Kings’ as a resource.

David is one of the most recognizable

figures in the Old Testament, and there’s very

little wonder as to why: shepherd turned giant-

killing hero, turned King, and labeled “the man

after God’s own heart.” While David’s story

seems too good to be true, part of what makes

David’s story so interesting is not his successes,

but his failures. David was human, and like

many of us succumbed to temptation; he gave

in to the allure of power, was corrupted by

material gains, committed adultery, and even

had a man killed. Despite all his shortcomings,

David still found himself on his face before God,

repenting and once again, seeking God’s heart,

finding that forgiveness and grace he so longed

for.

We can learn a lot from figures like David.

How often do we find ourselves giving in to the

temptations around us; being overly interested

in power, wealth, and material gain? Like David,

we also find ourselves time and again humbled

before God, seeking to follow God’s heart,

repenting, and finding that forgiveness. Perhaps

we shouldn’t aim to BE LIKE David, but we can

certainly LEARN FROM him.

Peace,

! ! Ryan1 Samuel 16:13 - Then Samuel took

the horn of oil, and anointed him...and the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward.
