Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP)ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is a concept and SAP is a ERP tool (software)Where the information flow from one function to another is integrated very tightly.

SAP is Enterprise software develops ERP solutions to be used by companies to manage business operations.

Other ERP's in market are BAAN, JD Edwards, ORACLE ERP, MFG PRO

Cross Functionality

It is a technique that cross the boundaries of traditional business functions (such as marketing and finance), in order to reengineer and improve vital business processes all across the enterprise.

These functions are neither completely dependent on each other nor completely independent of each other.

Novo uses SAP

Currently Novo uses four modules of SAP

Finance, HR, Logistics and Accounts

It allows fast communication, cost efficiency and effective outcomes

It also uses other systems like, ACS and TIS.

Finance

•Budgeting and Planning

•Approval of Projects

•Collaboration with other departments e.g. Accounts

•Communication with Head office for financial reviews of company

Accounts

•Cash Management, A/C Receivables, A/C Payables and other cash related functions

•All transactions are posted on system, making it easy for planning.

•Any crucial payment is posted on system for approval. If it is below Rs 50,000 HOD can approve it otherwise it is directly sent to CFO.

Logistics

•It is continuously in contact with head office.

•It is in continuous collaboration with finance and accounts department.

•Order is placed through system

•All documentation and status is posted on system for review from head office

Human Resource

•Maintains separate account for each employee in system.

•Each employee has separate ID in system and profile includes their JD and daily tasks and assignments.

•Salaries are updated monthly, finance approves and Accounts disburse it.

Time Information System

•System runs on Biometric

Attendance Machine.

•Same as DAR in SZABIST.

•Records employees Entrance and outgoing time.

•It is only in use of HR department

Access Card System

For security and safety, access card is used to open the main door to office.

It is give to all employees in organization.

Virtual Private Network

Organization’s connection is secured by hardware

VPN from Cisco.

Access to SAP is VPN secured, because SAP has global presence in all the Organization’s regional offices throughout the globe.

An employee will need a VPN code to connect to system, if he/she is working from home or some other place

Sales Reporting System

All sales persons working in country are given PDAs of Samsung.

Salespersons save all orders, input from doctors and competitor intelligence in PDAs.

All the updates from PDAs are transferred to company and all updates from company are transferred to PDAs.

Novo is using NEST, which synchronizes PDAs with central system.

Learning

IT plays a supportive role in business operations

Practical implementation of various concept studied in course. E.g. VPN, Extranet and Intranet etc

Also, these systems provide business with cost efficiency, competitive advantage and smoother operations.
