“My favourite Fred. Olsen ship is the Black Watch and in June this was combined with my other passion – Ipswich Town Football Club. Fred. Olsen themed a cruise to commemorate the contribution that Sir Bobby Robson made to both ITFC and Newcastle FC as the cruise terminated in Newcastle. There were many football celebrities on board as well as interesting lectures about all aspects that are interesting to any ITFC fan! I went away with my brother and a couple of other friends. It was just like being 20 years younger again except with great accommodation, excellent food and service – it was one of my best breaks. Taking a mini break is great for families, groups of friends, office parties, hen and stag parties, etc. Fred. Olsen are one of the best lines to offer short breaks as they go to unusual ports of call, have really well thought through and operated themes and small friendly ships. If you haven’t tried Fred. Olsen yet a short cruise is a great way to try them out.” - Alan Godfrey, Ocean World Travel

It’s a terrible thing to admit but here we always start to get a bit excited about Christmas here at this time of year. We blame it on the cruise lines who start their marketing of Christmas Cruises and the Christmas Markets.

a christmas cruise can be a big decision for many people. we usually like to surround ourselves with friends and family and

all that is wonderful about a british christmas, and the thought of being away from loved ones and the familiarity of our festive traditions, can be a bit daunting.

but christmas is a great time to cruise with fred. olsen. the welcoming, sociable atmosphere that’s always found on their cruise ships is perfectly complemented by the yuletide festivities. all their christmas cruises come with all the ‘trimmings’, from a beautiful christmas tree and decorations, to a traditional christmas dinner and themed events. owt owners michele and alan have enjoyed many christmas cruises over the years, and for customers who have any questions, no matter how small they may seem, michele would love to help in any way she can so you can decide if a christmas cruise is for you. call at your convenience and we’ll be happy to help out!

if however you would prefer to spend christmas at home, you can still enjoy the pre-christmas celebrations on board one of the ‘christmas markets’ cruises to bremerhaven, hamburg and copenhagen among other destinations.

Fred Olsen offer some great itineraries for those who enjoy a long cruise holiday. There is a wonderful Caribbean cruise in January which is a great way to escape the January blues. The Venice and Dubrovnik itinerary is one of their most popular routes. You can also visit the Red Sea and the West Indies. The Winter Warmer prices are so keen that you need to get in quick so as not to miss the opportunity.

Well Christmas is my favourite time of year. At Christmas time our house is swamped with Christmas decorations both inside and out! It takes a few days to get them up but it’s always worth it. For about five years though, we went away every Christmas and New Year. I must say it was always fantastic – in particular Fred. Olsen was fantastic. We have been entertained by pantomimes, the crew singing carols and lots of other festive fun. What’s great about Fred. Olsen is that they always come up with new ideas so it doesn’t feel ‘manufactured’ as it can in some venues. No washing up, family arguments, forgotten cream or gravy granules. You just turn up at the time shown on the newsletter and enjoy!!

Canary Islands

The Canary Islands seem to always give me a feel of being on holiday – a strange thing to say perhaps – but I guess I love sunshine and I usually find it in the Canaries (not always on the way there though!!) I love the Fred. Olsen cruises to the Canaries as they always try to take in a variety of ports of call and not all of them are well known. Some of the well-known larger islands are great for touring or finding a nice beach with a book. Some of the smaller islands are very pretty – great for sitting in the square with a coffee or a beer or enjoying a little retail therapy. Of course embarking and disembarking in the UK takes away the stress sometimes endured at the airport so it’s holiday all the way!

Sometimes I think it’s good to plan ahead. You get the cabin and dining that you like and you also get longer to look forward to your holiday which I think is a really good part of the holiday.

There is no better feeling that putting the brochures away having trawled

them for days or weeks on end knowing that you’re booked.

There are two amazing cruises in 2014 which are selling very fast – one my husband likes the look of – the special Monte Carlo Grand Prix cruise.

Usually going to Monte Carlo is very

expensive but with Fred Olsen it’s extremely reasonable. Another very interesting cruise is the special D-Day cruise, and again this one is selling fast. Don’t forget book with Ocean World Travel TO GeT THe BeST FAReS. Beat the fare increase on the 19th September 2013.Michele

After a stop in Gibraltar, your cruise ship takes you on to Trapani in Sicily. Many of the city’s historic buildings are Baroque, including The Church of Sant’Agostino and the Cathedral, which was built in 1421.From here, Montenegro beckons, where the Old City in Kotor has medieval architecture ensuring its place as a UNESCO Historical Heritage Site. The ‘Jewel of the Adriatic’, Dubrovnik, is a beautiful city and best appreciated by walking round the walls of the old town. A maiden call at Hvar in Croatia gives you the opportunity to discover this hidden gem, considered one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world. After an overnight stay in Koper, Slovenia, your cruise ship arrives in beautiful Venice. Take a gondola along one of the many canals, stand on the Bridge of Sighs or visit St. Mark’s Basilica, with another overnight stay there is plenty of time for you to really explore this fine city. Following a stop at Gythion, you have one further overnight stay, in Athens (from Piraeus). After stops at Valletta and Malaga, it is all too soon time to cruise home to Bristol (Avonmouth).

Join Braemar on this 2014 cruise from Harwich to remember the D-Day Anniversary of Dunkirk.

After a stop at Zeebrugge, your cruise ship will return briefly to the UK, to Portsmouth. From here, pay your respects to those who gave their lives at the tranquil war memorials, before stepping back in time and visiting the D-Day Museum.

On to Cherbourg, which was part of the Battle of Normandy in the Second World War, before cruising on to Le Havre for an overnight stay, giving you the opportunity to take a tour to the Allied landing areas on the Day of Remembrance.

Dunkirk is the last port of call on this epic cruise holiday; whilst here take time to visit the Dunkirk War Museum, which tells the story of the Allied evacuation from the town, before returning to Harwich.

This Film Stars & Fast Cars Black Watch cruise is one not to be missed, as you will be in Cannes for the Film Festival and Monaco for the Grand Prix. After a stop at Gibraltar; your cruise continues on to Almeria. From here, visit Oasys Mini Hollywood, a specially created theme park with a Wild West setting, western shows and Cancan dancers. With an overnight stay in Cannes, the star of the French Riviera, you will have plenty of time to explore the beautiful beaches, luxury casinos and fascinating museums. Then it’s on to Nice, and a visit here would not be complete without a trip to Monaco to see the renowned Grand Prix circuit, and soak up the race-day atmosphere. The city has a number of other interesting attractions and museums to explore, including the Picasso Museum, which houses 150 of the great artists paintings. After Barcelona, Peniscola is your next port of call, and is known locally as the City in the Sea, so called as the old town is built on a rocky peninsular, joined to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. Your final port of call on this Film Stars and Fast Cars cruise is Cadiz. From here, you can take a tour of the city and visit Jerez de la Frontera.

Your first port of call on this 2014 cruise to Norway is Stavanger, where the pretty harbour and old town are a delight to explore. The narrow streets climb steeply away from the harbour, framed by ancient wooden houses, and surrounding the market where fresh fish and vegetables have been sold for over 1000 years.

Flam is next – this breath-taking little villages lies on the banks of the Aurlandsfjord, and as you stroll along the waters edge, you can see why visitors keep returning here. Be sure to take the funicular railway up the mountain, passing thundering waterfalls and magnificent scenery.

Your final port of call is Eidfjord, where glassy waters and towering cliffs encircle yet more of this fine country’s stunning scenery. Travel slightly further afield to Norway’s best-known waterfall, Voringfoss and absorb the dramatic landscapes of the Hardangerfjord.

Scandinavia & Baltic CruisesMany think that the autumn is too late for Scandinavia and the Baltics but in truth it’s a great time to go.

There are many wonderful markets from November which sell all sorts of Christmas goodies. In addition there is a wealth of culture, history and interesting places to visit.

Scandinavia and the Baltics are becoming an increasingly popular all year round destination.
