USM Admissions Ambassadors

📅📅 2017-2018 Job Overview

USM Admissions Ambassadors work to assist the university community in support of recruiting and enrollment activities that occur on campus for prospective students, new students, and their families. Ambassadors are expected to represent the University in a positive and professional manner, and always be willing to help. Ambassadors serve an academic-year long appointment, with opportunities over the summer term as well.

Assisting the Office of Admissions: Student Focused Every Day.

Ambassadors may perform a variety of duties within the Office of Admissions supporting functions, communications, events, and service to current and prospective students. Leadership and communication skills are required. Entry level computer skill are required. Ambassadors must have the ability to relate well with students, parents, and staff. Must be comfortable in dealing with the public, able to work in a fast-paced office environment which includes greeting guests, answering telephones, and answering general questions about the University and the admission process. Ambassadors will perform office duties such as document scanning, filing, mailings, phone, email, and visitor assistance, and other duties as assigned by a member of the USM staff.

Visits and Events

Ambassadors will give tours of one or more of our campus depending on availability, including residence hall rooms (Gorham only), academic buildings, labs, facilities, and important highlights. Ambassadors will also support events through promotion, event staffing, and other event management activities. Leadership and communication skills are required. Must be comfortable speaking in front of a group, on the phone, and one on one. Ambassadors will assist with campus visits, events, and initiatives including those listed below. Ambassadors must be prompt, clean, and professional in their dress and demeanor and understand that they serve as front line public relations figures for the University of Southern Maine.

Possible 2017-2018 Events requiring help from USM Ambassadors (Partial List) - Supporting Year-Round Campus Tours, Including:

o Each Monday,Wednesday, and select Saturdays in Gorham, 9am-11:45amo Each Tuesday and Thursday in Portland, 9am-11:45amo Each Friday morning 9am-11:30am in Portland, Friday Afternoons 12:30pm-2:45pm in Gorhamo Afternoon shifts for Admissions projects and outreacho Lewiston Campus Tourso Group Visits for High Schools and Other Orgs. (Variable Schedule, around 30-50 events per semester)o Special Communications like mailings, operations, calling & outreach campaigns

- Admissions Open Houses (Sept. 18, Oct 21, Nov 14) - Preview Days - Winter/Spring Admitted Student Events

- Special functions for students and the USM community including Orientations, Presidential Functions, etc…
