DReam Catcher was established in 2019 to honor the life and memory of David K. Ream (1949–2017), a beloved CIFF trustee.
CIFF45 Streams was thrilled to present its DReam Catcher Award and Program, recognizing pioneering LGBTQ+ filmmaker– and Ohio’s own –Todd Stephens. Todd’s “Ohio Trilogy” was included in CIFF45 Streams: SWAN SONG (2021), GYPSY 83 (2001), and EDGE OF SEVENTEEN (2000).
The Groundbreaker Award and Program offers educational opportunities about structural racism, and elevates and supports BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) filmmakers.
CIFF45 Streams was honored to recognize documentarian Ashley O’Shay as its first Groundbreaker Award recipient. Ashley is the director, producer, and cinematographer of CIFF45 Streams film UNAPOLOGETIC (2020). The Groundbreaker Program was sponsored by Case Western Reserve University and Puffin Foundation West. The Groundbreaker Award was sponsored by CoverMyMeds.
FilmSlam Streams is the CIFF’s virtual media literacy program and mini-festival of films for students in grades 5–12. FilmSlam Streams provides outstanding examples of the filmmaking art, introducing students to other cultures and fostering awareness of people different from themselves. FilmSlam Streams also enables students to see people on screen who look like themselves.
For more information about FilmSlam Streams, please contact Beth Steele Radisek, Special Programs Director, at [email protected].

The mission of the Cleveland International Film Festival is to promote artistically and culturally
significant film arts through education and exhibition to enrich the life of the community.
We recognize our society must confront and dismantle systemic and institutional racism, which causes marginalization, disenfranchisement, and discrimination.
We will consistently work to mitigate inequities by deliberately amplifying voices and presenting viewpoints of—and sharing power with— people and communities of color.
We will implement short- and long-term strategies to weave racial equity and inclusion into the fabric of our organization.
While our anti-racism work is ongoing, we will be intentional about achieving measurable change.
