Choosing the Best Nozzles

Consider First the Company with theGreatest Experience in Designing SprayNozzles for Fire ProtectionBETE has been developing specialized nozzles for fire protection sincethe early 1950's. BETE's early growth was assured with a large order tosupply the newly developed BETE spiral nozzles to Sinclair RefiningCompany for protection of their catalytic cracking units. BETE has contin-ued to build on this early experience to become pre-eminent in supplyinghigh performance nozzles for fixed fire protection on off-shore drilling andproduction platforms, petroleum storage and transfer stations, and a widevariety of industrial and commercial installations. Working with individualcompanies and industry consortia, BETE's newest design innovations arerewriting the books on platform and well-head protection, water curtains, and the mitigation of toxic gas releases. BETE's success is built on itsability to carefully engineer its nozzle designs to deliver the specific sprayperformance required to efficiently suppress and extinguish many differenttypes of fires.

Consider: Type of Protection Needed, Nozzle Design, Spray Performance and Spray Density

Consider: Do you need to conserve fire water supplies for lowpressure contingencies? The spiral design is the most efficient direct-pressure atom-izer, producing sprays 30-50% finer at a given pressure thanequivalently rated whirl nozzles. This translates into more droplet surface area over which heat transfer can occur, yielding significant improvements in fire suppression andcooling effectiveness. Their greater efficiency allow theBETE spiral nozzles (TF, TFXP, TFXPW, TF-150, TF29-180and N series) to be operating at lower pressures and lowerflow rates without compromising the level of protection.

Is your deluge system exposed to average winds above 10 mph? If so, the BETE TFXPW series provides the proven fineatomization of the spiral design and a carefully engineeredinner spray cone to punch through cross-winds and vigorousconvective plumes.

For Fixed Fire ProtectionAre you protecting a lightly packed, enclosed storage space? The BETE TF29-180 series combines a unique extra-widecoverage high-energy spray able to project through gratingswith fine droplets characteristic of the spiral design. Devel-oped by BETE for Naval Sea Systems Command, this series was designed to provide critical fire control and cooling withinthe tight quarters of densely paqcked ship-board magazines.

Is your "dry" system plagued with scale or your firewater supply with plugging solids (sand, rust scale, algae, invertebrates etc.)? The nozzles in a fixed water spray system need to be pro-tected from pluggage screening out particulates with diametersexceeding 50% of the minimum nozzle passage-way ("free pas-sage diameter"). The BETE MaxiPass and TF-XP series ofmaximum free passage nozzles provide reliable protectionagainst plugging. These nozzle series deliver free passagesthree to four times larger than competing designs-increasingreliability and reducing system complexity and maintenance.

Do you need to provide water curtain protection tocommand and control centers, evacuation staging areas,or critical structural components? When mounted to spray horizontally, the extra-wide cover-age of the BETE TF-150 and -170 series 150˚ and 170˚ full-cone spirals function particularly effectively as a water curtainradiation barrier - protecting personnel, control centers and emergency mustering areas from intense heat, smoke and toxicfumes. Three separate cones work in concert to deliver assured protection remarkably resistant to flame and radiation "punch-through" and wind-induced spray pattern deformation.

Does your installation require nozzles approved byLloyd's Factory Mutual or the U.S. Coast Guard? BETE's N series nozzles are the only spiral design nozzlesin the industry that are Coast Guard and Factory Mutualapproved. All N series models are Factory Mutual approved. The BETE N9 model is designed to meet FM's requirementsfor use in fixed deluge installations protecting industrial trans-formers. The entire N series is certified for use on ships andoff-shore installations by Lloyd's Register. The N3, 4 and 5and N3W, 4W and 5W models are approved by the U.S. Coast Guard.
