Empowering impoverished children and women in SE Asia
'Tis the Season To Be Jolly! Scott Friedman, President TWCCTW
'Tis the season… to be jolly…. as “Together We Can
Change the World” continues our mission of educating
and providing opportunities for children and women in
SE Asia. Given the global turmoil, I feel an even greater
responsibility to model kindness, inclusivity, and hope
and to further the notion of one world—one family—one
global community.
On our January tour, we’ll be partnering with the American Chamber of Commerce of
Myanmar, The Sule Shangrila, and The Chatrium as we present “21st Century
Global Leadership: Creating A High Performance Culture” on January 3rd at the Sule
Shangrila in Yangon. Twelve international speakers who will be touring with us will
share their expertise as we remind a developing nation what’s most important in
building a sustainable future. We hope to have 100+ in attendance.
There is a saying in the Hebrew tradition, Gemilut Hasadim, which means to give
service with kindness, humility, and grace and to expect nothing in return. That’s our
challenge: to show the true spirit of global kindness that many may have been
forgotten. 'Tis the season… to be jolly.

January Trip to MyanmarBill Taylor
We’re going to visit some wonderful places in Myanmar in January. And, more
importantly, we’ll get to visit some great projects being supported by you and your
donations to TWCCTW. Follow along with us on Social Media.
So much to see. So much to do. And, all the while knowing that this trip will be
making the difference in the lives of hundreds and hundreds of impoverished kids.
Here is just a taste of what we’ll see and do.
In Bagan, we’ll get to see more pagodas than you ever imagined could exist in one
place. Over 10,000!
On the way out of Yangon and before
we head for Hpaan, we’ll visit Palel
Myntta, a shelter for 20 HIV/AIDS kids.
There we’ll get to meet Mae Mee.
We’ll visit the Koenawin Monastery so we can see how the Monks house and
educate 418 vulnerable children. The Education Monk, in this picture, is an ex
military senior officer. He’s doing an awesome job here.
And, while there we’ll get a wonderful, “home cooked” vegetarian mean. Yum!
We’ll also get to visit the Guiding Star Monastery School where 149 kids are
receiving their high school education. They need some help finishing their new
building.
At Lakhana Village we’ll see a recently funded secondary school that will most likely
be in use by the time we arrive.
See you all in Yangon where we’ll begin this adventure together. Don't forget to
follow us on Social Media.
Why Do I Serve?Paul N Larsen, Board Member, TWCCTW
In my role as an executive coach, author and speaker, I love to share my incredibleTWCCTW experiences volunteering in Southeast Asia. Now that I have the honorto be on the board of this wonderful organization, I wish to share my gratitude forwhat TWCCTW has given back to me.
I am grateful that TWCCTW ...
Is inclusive,
Is generous.
Welcomes me as I am,
Welcomes me where I am.
Shares knowledge and expertise,
Shares my true values.
Supports learning,
Supports potential.
Connects me with a community,
Connects me with myself.
Accepts what I have to offer.
Accepts me when I have less to offer.
Provides the opportunity to be a teacher,
Provides the opportunity to be a student.
Applies my talents to a wide range of uses,
Applies my talents to specific, personal needs.
Introduces me to strangers across the world,
Introduces me to friends across the world.
Helps me to be a better citizen,
Helps me to be a better person.
I am grateful that…yes…together…we can change the world!
Fundraising Ideas You Can Do to Benefit TWCCTWAva Diamond
Have you ever thought, “I love the work Together We Can Change the World does, and I’d love to make a bigger donation than my own funds will allow”? This year Iwas able to help provide larger donations by coproducing a few fundraisers thatraised thousands of dollars for Together We Can Change the World.
Here are three ideas that it might spark some creative ideas you could implement.
Fundraiser
We had a “wine fundraiser” at our National Speakers Association holiday party. Attendees brought a wrapped bottle of wine so that you can’t see the label. Eachbottle was “sold” for a donation of $20. For extra fun, there were a few bottlesworth around $100. So some walked away with a super valuable bottle of wine.Think about an organization to which you belong that will have a large gathering ofpeople. Tell them about TWCCTW, and see what kind of fundraiser would helpthem make a difference.
Silent Auction
This is a great way to raise a lot of money with just a little bit of time and effort. (Youcould even do this online.) Solicit donations of services, art pieces, products, oranything of value and attendees bid on them. It’s a winwinwin that benefits thewomen and children TWCCTW supports in SE Asia.
Theater or Musical Performance
Do you know of a local theater that might be willing to support the work ofTWCTW? In Denver, a very generous performance artist agreed to put on his oneman show to benefit TWCCTW. Our tickets earned about $3000 that evening, withall of the proceeds going to TWCCTW. Who in your own community might bewilling to donate the proceeds (or part of the proceeds) for one evening?
Most of us have limited resources. But by thinking creatively, enlisting others tohelp, and investing a little bit of time and effort, we can multiply our resources andhave a much bigger impact.
