Cons• From first submission to

funding can take 18 – 24 mo, so requires planning and milestone timing revision

• Easier for (typically 5-year) NP students than 4-year students

• If funding runs longer than planned matriculation, must extend stay

• Proposal is no longer de-facto first draft of dissertation (more back end writing needed)
