24.HOME FOR HOMELESS

The NSS Unit of our college came to know about an elderly lady in our adopted village

who didn’t have a proper house to live in. The tattered shed she owned was in a pathetic

condition worse than a cattle shed. During nights she slept in a nearby gymnasium. So as part of

Agathi- Ashraya Home for Homeless scheme we decided to build a proper house for her.

Thus on 2nd

January 2015, a group of volunteers along with Program Officers visited the site.

Initially the area was cleared, debris was removed and land was made even to start excavating

for foundation. Another group of volunteers loaded the sand required for construction to the

work site. One fourth of the excavation work was completed on the first day.

On second day, 3rd

January 2015, the rest of the excavation work was completed. The remaining

sand required for construction was brought in. Also the stones and rocks required for the

foundation was transported to the site from the roadside, manually by the volunteers.

Through this program we aim to encourage constructive work and team effort among the

volunteers.
