    3/10

    Chapter 11

    Vs 4-5 (Head Coverings)

Some evidence suggests that married women kept theirheads covered to (a) signal that they were female and (b) as

a way of being modest. Perhaps some Corinthian femaleChristians were worshipping with their heads uncovered.

vs 21,27, 33-34 (The Lords Supper)

Early Christians partook of the Lords Supper (sacrament)while sharing an evening meal together. Some of thewealthier members could show up earlier and would eat allthe food and wine, sometimes getting drunk!

    Chapter 14

    Vs 6,9, 23

Some were speaking in tongues, a spiritual gift which is not

commonly manifest today (in the same way). Paul says it isonly worthwhile if you can interpret and understand it.

    glossolalia = speaking in a non-Earthly tongues

xenoglossy = speaking in an Earthly tongue Glossolalia was sometimes manifested in the early LDS

    Church.

    7/10

    Chapter 14

    Vs 33-35

A ban on women speaking in church?

    Contradicts Ch 11:5!

    Contradicts other evidence from Paul:

celibate women with no husband (ch 7)

Women leaders of in the church (Rom 16:1-2, 3-4, 7; Phil 4:2)

    Three possibilities:

    Paul is truly contradicting himself

Could be a warning to not contradict your husbands in public

This is a later addition from a copyist (there is evidence for this).
