Introduction

Established in 1998, Nilai University is one of Malaysia’s largest private education providers and home to students from over 50 countries worldwide.

The LRC has a rapidly growing collection of books, periodicals and other learning aids. The collection includes items of general interest and others, which are closely related to the courses offered at Nilai University. They include Business and Management, Accounting, Computer Science, English Language, Engineering, Social Science, Natural Science, Applied Science, Nursing, Hospitality, Liberal Arts, Humanities and Education.

The LRC is an integrated part of the institutional area of the university, providing access to up-to-date technology and comprehensive resources and services in support of the research, teaching, and learning needs of the University community.

Information Service

Borrowing Procedures/Rules1. Students must have their Student ID cards in order to borrow Library

materials. No Library material is to be removed from the Library until they have been recorded and checked at the appropriate counter.

2. Students may borrow up to three(3) books at a time for 14 days and the same student can renew them only once.

3. Student may not borrow any item using another student’s ID card.4. Students are responsible for any damaged , lost, overdue for loans issued

out in their names. They must report any damage/mutilation found in the library materials before borrowing, otherwise they are liable to pay any damage when the items are returned.

5. All books must be returned on or before the due date. Books must be returned immediately when recalled.

6. At the end of the semester, all Library books must be returned.

a) How to Borrow Hand over the book and your student ID to the Library staff on duty at the

Circulation Services Counter. When the book and your I.D card are returned to

you, the book is considered borrowed. Please check to make sure that the due date stamped is correct.

b) How to Renew Bring along the materials borrowed to Circulation Services Counter. Books, which are not overdue, may be renewed if other Library users have

not reserved them. The borrower must personally renew the books and they can only be

renewed once.

Red Spot BooksStudents may borrow books for 2 hours. If borrowed overnight this should be done 1 hour before closing time and returned before 10:00 am the next day.

LRC Fines

a. Open Shelf BooksAn overdue notice will be displayed at the Library notice board as soon as the loan period expires. Books that are overdue will be subjected to a fine, which is calculated from the day the book is due back until the day the book is returned. The overdue fine charged is 50 cents per day per item.

b. Red Spot BooksThe fine for overdue Red Spot books is calculated at 50 cents for every hour.

c. Loss of MaterialsStudents must report loss of library materials to staff at the circulation counter immediately.The borrower will be held responsible for any loss or damage of materials loaned and will be charged the cost of replacement. This includes the processing cost (RM 10.00) plus any accumulated fines plus the cost of replacing the materialsIn the case of Library materials that were reported lost but are found later and returned to the Library, the student concerned is still liable to a fine. The lost and found Library materials will continue to remain the property of the Library in spite of a replacement cost payment

LRC Rules & RegulationsConduct of LRC Users

All students using facilities in the LRC must observe the following rules. Any infringement may result in the user's suspension from the LRC for the rest of the day.

Silence shall be maintained in the LRC areas All handphones should be switched off. The LRC staff has the right to ask

any user who is causing a disturbance or who is disruptive / unruly to leave the LRC.

LRC users without proper attire are not allowed into the LRC. LRC users must present the Nilai U ID card for inspection if requested by

the LRC staff. No bags are allowed into the LRC including laptop bag. The LRC bears no responsibility for any loss of personal belongings or

property on its premises. Smoking and the consumption of food and drinks are not allowed (except

plain water) in the LRC. Reservation of seats is not permitted. Books and other articles left on the

tables or chairs will be removed without prior notice. LRC materials and furniture should not be misused or moved. Tearing off of pages or mutilation of LRC materials is strictly prohibited. Marking, underlining or writing on LRC materials is strictly forbidden. No littering in the LRC areas. Please use provided trash bins.

LRC materials taken from the stacks should not be reshelf by the LRC users. Left it on the trolley or table.

Attempting to take any LRC materials out of premise without an official check out transactions is considered disciplinary actions.

LRC users should keep in mind copyright issues while copying any material borrowed from the LRC.

The LRC rules and regulations shall be modified from time to time and shall be binding on all concerned

Violation of the above rules would result in the forfeiture of your LRC privileges. The LRC may amend the Rules and Regulations as and when necessary.

Collections

The LRC collection includes the following materials:

a) Reference Collection

This collection comprises Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Handbooks, Atlases, Guides and bound magazines. These collections indicate as ‘R’ and can view in the LRC only.

b) Open Shelf

This collection of books is placed on the shelves with white label and it is accessible to library users. Students and staffs must produce their student/staff identification card when borrowing books.

c) Audio-Visual Materials

The audio-visual collection includes videotapes, diskettes, transparencies and audiocassettes. Only selected items are available to students, while lectures can borrow them for teaching purposes.

d) Red Spot Collections

This is a collection of textbook and reference books, which are in high demand. Past year examination papers of different programs, dissertations, newspaper clippings are also included in this section. Red spot collections are located in the LRC circulation counter and users must leave their ID card for borrowing these collections.

e) Periodicals Collections (Printed Journals, Newspapers and Magazines)

Magazines including printed journals are obtainable in the reading area of the LRC. While local newspapers, user can obtain at the LRC Circulation Counter.

User Educations Program

LRC provides user education program for the academician, students and administration staff to make sure that information sources, services and resources are well utilized for user benefits.

Library Orientation

LRC orientation sessions are conducted in the beginning of every new semester for new students to familiarize with the resources, services and facilities available in the library.

Library WebOPAC Search

Web Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is available from the library’s website. It is used for searching library collection.You can search the documents by entering author, title or keyword in the query line.

Reference/ Help DeskLibrary staff on duty shall provide the necessary assistance in locating the required information and information sources available in the LRC or elsewhere.

Discussion Rooms

LRC users for a maximum of 10 persons and a minimum of 3 persons may use discussion rooms at one time. It is available upon request at the Circulation Services Counter. Student’s ID will be reserved for booking the room.

The audio visual room is mainly used for group viewing, as seats are available for 25 persons. Students must leave their Nilai U ID card at the circulation counter before using the room.

Computers

There are 50 computers with Internet access available in the LRC.

The area is open to students to display their activities in the library.

Wireless Internet Access

Wireless Internet hotspot network in the LRC using a WIFI (IEEE802.11b compatible) which enabled notebook or PDA to surf the Internet. User necessary to register for WIFi access at SurfUp Broadband located at student hostel.

Lockers

There are limited numbers of safety lockers provided for the LRC users located in the LRC

Luggage room for free use. It is available upon request at the Circulation Services Counter. Student's ID will be reserved until the key is returned.

Book Drop

There are 1 unit of book drop available for your convenience to return books outside library opening hours in which located beside the ATM machine. Red Spot Books borrowed must be returned at Circulation counter.
