WELCOME

In the year 2000 the International Nuclear Track Society is organising the jubilee 20thInternational Conference on Nuclear Tracks in Solids in Portoro, Slovenia. The topics ofthe conference cover basic mechanisms of nuclear tracks formation in solids, nuclear trackdevelopment and evaluation of etched nuclear tracks, as well as applications of nucleartracks in diverse areas of physical, technological and biomedical sciences.

PLACE AND TIME OF THE CONFERENCE

Grand Hotel Emona, Hotel Complex Bernardin, Portoro, Slovenia.

From Monday, August 28, 2000 to Friday, September 1, 2000.

CONFERENCE TOPICS

271 abstracts (5 invited) were submitted from 44 countries. Those accepted for presentationare divided in the following topics:

OPENING• IntroductoryBASIC PROCESSES• Nuclear Track Physics & Chemistry• Instrumentation, Methods, SoftwarePHYSICAL SCIENCES• High Energy Interactions & Cosmic Rays• Nuclear Physics & Chemistry• Earth & Planetary Sciences, DatingBIOMEDICAL SCIENCES• Radiation Protection, Dosimetry• Environmental Science, RadiometryTECHNOLOGICAL SCIENCES• Material Science, Radiography• Nuclear Technology

PRESENTATIONS

Oral presentations are limited to 15 minutes (30 minutes for invited lecturers).Authors are kindly requested to present their papers in shorter time to allow someminutes for discussion.

Posters should be prepared to fit within the 95 cm (width) x 105 cm (height). Authors arerequested to post their presentations in the morning of the presentation day (Monday 28,Tuesday 29 or Thursday 31). Each day there will be 2 Poster Sessions when authors arerequested to attend their posters. Authors are also kindly requested to remove their postersafter the second Poster Session.

PROCEEDINGS

A copy of the Book of Abstracts will be distributed to the participants at the time ofregistration. After the normal referee process, the Proceedings will be published as a specialissue of the journal Radiation Measurements. Manuscripts that will not be presented at theconference by one of the authors, late arrived manuscripts (after August 28) and manuscriptsexceeding the page limit will be submitted to the editor of the above journal as regularpapers.

If possible, the participants are kindly asked to submit their manuscripts (1 original + 2copies) by August 1st. The final deadline, however, is August 28th, 12:00 hours. Papers thatwill not be in the hands of the organisers by that time will not be considered for publicationin the Proceedings.

Instructions for preparation of manuscripts are attached on a separate form. They are alsoavailable at

http://www.elsevier.nl/inca/publications/store/2/8/6/

The page limit is 8 journal pages for invited papers, 6 journal pages for papers presentedorally and 4 journal pages for posters. One journal page is equivalent to ~800 words; forfigures and tables the total amount of text should be reduced accordingly. A figure or tableof single column width (~7.6 cm) occupies around 1/4 of printed page and a full page widthfigure or table occupies around 1/2 of printed page. Please be aware that papers exceedingthe page limit will not be considered for publication in the Proceedings.
