    4. Would you vote to renew the funding for the ReliableReplacement Warhead (RRW) program? I supportstrengthening non-proliferation efforts, so at this point I do notsee the need to renew the programs funding.

    5. Would you vote to enable the implementation of the BushAdministrations Complex Transformation plan? I wouldvote against enabling the implementation of the Complex

    Transformation plan.

    6. Do you support theYucca Mountain Nuclear WasteDepository? No.

    7. Do you believe that nuclear power is a safe and viableenergy alternative to fossil fuels? I do not. We need todevelop safer and more viable alternatives, such as solar andwind power. Beyond that, we need to learn to live within ourmeans and conserve our resources.

    India Nuclear Deal?Yes.

    4. Would you vote to renew the funding for the ReliableReplacement Warhead (RRW) program? No. The UnitedStates must be a model for disarmament if we expect the rest ofthe world to move in that direction. Research and developmentof new nuclear weapons will incentivize the distribution of oldand new nuclear technology around the world and continue ourpath in the wrong direction.

    5. Would you vote to enable the implementation of the Bush

Administrations Complex Transformation plan? Given thatComplex Transformation is a sort of precursor of the RRWprogram, I feel similarly and would not enable theimplementation of it.(http://www.fcnl.org/issues/item.php?item_id=2158&issue_id=51)

    6. Do you support the Yucca Mountain Nuclear WasteDepository? No.

    NUCLEAR WEAPONSAND NUCLEAR POWER

    1. Do you support the research and/or development of newU.S. nuclear weapons? No. See answer to next questions.

    2. Do you support the elimination of nuclear weaponsworldwide? Yes. With the end of the Cold War, the threat of alarge scale nuclear war diminished. Unfortunately, today thethreat of nuclear proliferation is greater than ever. The UnitedStates cannot continue its position of global nuclear dominance

for this stance will undoubtedly accelerate nuclear proliferationby other nations. We must work towards elimination of ournuclear arsenals.

Unfortunately, the Bush administration has taken manydangerous, reckless steps in the wrong direction. Bush haswithdrawn from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, drawn up plansfor a nuclear strike against Iran, violated the Non-ProliferationTreaty, and even proposed the development of new nuclearweapons. The nuclear bomb is useless for war. It isindiscriminately destructive and a threat to all. This fact must be

driven home to all who possess these mind-bogglingly ruinousweapons. Nuclear weapons are a threat to the existence of theworld and the world must work together to eliminate theseweapons.

As Henry Kissinger, George Shultz, William Perry and Sam Nunnso eloquently stated in their piece in the Wall Street Journal:Reassertion of the vision of a world free of nuclear weapons andpractical measures toward achieving that goal would be, andwould be perceived as, a bold initiative consistent with America'smoral heritage. The effort could have a profoundly positive

impact on the security of future generations.

    3. Would you vote to enforce the agreements of the NuclearNon-Proliferation Treaty, specifically in light of the U.S.-India Nuclear Deal?Yes. When the Bush administrationannounced its intention to enable full civil nuclear energycooperation and trade with India it deliberately sidestepped theNuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. India has never signed theTreaty and has tested nuclear weapons. Because it does notaccept international monitoring of all nuclear facilities it should

be exempt from U.S. trade in nuclear reactors, technology, andfuel. This agreement sets a dangerous precedent for our futuredealings with Pakistan, Iran, and North Korea.

    4. Would you vote to renew the funding for the ReliableReplacement Warhead (RRW) program? No. Most of thecurrent U.S. nuclear warheads were built in the 1970s and 80s.The RRW program was instituted to maintain and replacedeteriorating warheads and to improve the reliability, longevity, and certifiability of existing weapons and their components. However, while this deterioration is a potential problem, I believe

it is one that has been overstated. The RRW program also runsthe risk of disrupting our international non-proliferation effortsand could lead to the development of new nuclear weapons andnuclear testing and a renewed nuclear arms race. Spending onnuclear weapons is exorbitant and wasteful and the RRW isunnecessary.

    5. Would you vote to enable the implementation of the BushAdministrations Complex Transformation plan? No. TheComplex Transformation plan is a plan to restructure the nationsnuclear weapons infrastructure. The goal is to consolidate

existing nuclear facilities and also to increase the capacity toproduce more plutonium for new nuclear weapons. This programtakes the United States in the absolute wrong direction. Itundermines our security and threatens the spread of nuclearweapons. I strongly oppose this plan.

    6. Do you support theYucca Mountain Nuclear WasteDepository? No. The core question of how to safely dispose ofnuclear waste has never been adequately answered. Questionsremain about the long-term viability of Yucca Mountain and theproject faces a long list of scientific, technical, public health, legal, and safety problems. Obviously, the problem of nuclearwaste disposal must be addressed, but Yucca Mountain is not theanswer.

    7. Do you believe that nuclear power is a safe and viableenergy alternative to fossil fuels? No. I would not supportthe building of any additional nuclear power plants. This industrycould not exist without government subsidies and tax breaks.Insurance costs alone would be prohibitive without thegovernments intervention. I am not convinced that this is a safetechnology nor has the core question of how to dispose ofnuclear waste ever been adequately answered.
