What a Wonderful World It was about two months ago that I dedicated myself to lose a little weight. You know how I joke about being on a seventeen-year-old diet; last year it was a sixteen-year-old diet. I admit it has been a challenge, and progress has been slow. Well, you know the expression, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” One positive that has come with my commitment to drop a pound is that I have been walking almost every day for at least thirty minutes. My favorite place to walk is through Rock Creek Park along the walking trail. It is beautiful, and it gives me that peaceful, easy feeling. Walking the trail has reminded me that God made this world beautiful. Have you heard it said, “Stop and smell the roses”? I, for the last two months while walking, have not taken time to smell the roses since it is winter. I have, however, taken time to reflect on the beauty of this nat-ural world. As a Christian man and one who is a full-time church worker, I have spent so much time reading, studying, and preaching what God’s word says about not loving the world that I have failed to realize that the Lord never intended for us to ignore the greatness of His creation. “God saw all that He had made, and be-hold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31). It is true we are not to love the sinful aspects of the material world. “Do not love the world nor things in the world” (1 John 2:15). We are not to love that part of the world that the devil can use to tempt us to behave badly and sin. Judas loved money, and the devil used his love for it to tempt him to betray the Lord. (Read Luke 22:3-6.) Christian men and women must know their weaknesses so to prepare them-selves for possible temptations. If your desire is for money, sexual stimulation or anything else, you must be on guard for yourselves, for the devil will use it against you. (Read James 1:13-16.) Well, back to this physical world and how we should appreciate it. The great King David said, “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse Continued inside . . .

Little Willie Learns a Bible Lesson
After church, Willie tells his parents he has to go and talk to
the minister right away. They agree, and the preacher greets the family. “Preacher,” Willie says, “I heard you say today that our bodies came from the dust.” “That’s right, Willie, I did.” “And I heard you say that when we
die our bodies go back to dust.” “Yes, I’m glad you were listening. Why do you ask?” “Well, you'd better come over to our house right away and look under my bed ’cause there’s someone either comin’ or goin’.”

Continued from inside . . . is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night tonight reveals knowledge” (Psalm 19:1-2). What does the creation reveal to us about God? "Words which are not words produce knowledge for him who lis-tens in faith” (The Living Word Commentary: Psalms, Ash and Miller, p. 85). When you take a close look at what God created, you must conclude that God is great. The great Nehemiah when calling on the Lord said, "I beseech you, O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God” (Nehemiah 1:5). Yes, our God’s creation speaks volumes of His great-ness. We should take the time to realize it. By doing so, we will renew our appreciation for Him. “For even since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God” (Romans 1:20 ERV). How great God must be if He was able to create all that we see. Yet, sometime in the future, this present world will be replaced with “new heavens and a new earth” (2 Peter 3:13). “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the ele-ments will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up” (2 Peter 3:10). The Lord will come, and all that can be identified through the senses will be no more. If you are prepared for the return, meaning if He finds you faithful, you will live in that place He is preparing for us (John 14:1-3). The good news is the new will be better than the old, which should be encouraging to all God’s people. For if what we look for-ward to will be better than what we now experience, we truly do have something to look forward to, right? Rick
