Prelude For All The Saints Smith

TO WORSHIP GOD AND CONFESS OUR FAITH

Call to Worship

I looked over Jordan, that river we all will eventually cross... O Lord, what a vision. I could see the saints singing and dancing. I saw grandpa fishing in the Crystal Sea, I heard grandma humming in the kitchen... O Lord, what a vision. There were countless others, all faithful disciples, gathered worshiping...That old man who sang solos in the choir, That young man whose life was cut short in that accident... O Lord what a vision. But the most amazing thing I saw as I looked over Jordan... Yes? Yes? Was the man standing in the shallows, smiling, saying "Welcome home."

+Praise Set “For All the Saints” No. 711

+Affirmation of Faith “The Apostles’ Creed” No. 881

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. (universal)*

+ Response of Praise: “Gloria Patri” (all sing together)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. AMEN! AMEN!

TO SPEAK AND TO LISTEN TO GOD

A Moment with the Children All children up to the age of 10 years old are invited to come forward for Children’s Time. (Following the Children’s Moment, children ages 2K-3rd grade are invited to Children’s Church.)

Call to Prayer: (all sing together) Lord, listen to your children praying, Lord, send your Spirit in this place; Lord, listen to your children praying, send us love, send us power, send us grace.

Pastoral Prayer

Chorus (all sing together) I cast all my cares upon You. I lay all of my burdens down at Your feet. And any time I don't know what to do; I will cast all my cares upon You.

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

TO OFFER OUR TITHES, OFFERINGS AND GIFTS TO GOD

We Worship God with His Tithes and Our Offerings

Offertory “I Love You, Lord” Chancel Choir

+Doxology (all sing together)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him all creatures here below. Praise him above, ye heav'nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Offertory Prayer (in unison)

God of love and uncountable blessings, we bring our gifts this day in the sight of our cloud of witnesses — the saints who have guided our lives and watch over our faithfulness from heaven’s balcony. As we strive to live out their hope and faith in the promise of your kingdom, may we also rededicate ourselves to live so this world better reflects your kingdom and rule. In Christ, we pray. Amen.

Remembering the Saints

Today we recognize those members of St. Luke that have passed from this life into eternal life – over the past year.

Hear the names – as read. Over the year many others near and dear to us have made this journey. Please feel free

to share their names aloud at this time.

Laura McCall Crouch, Jacque Lane, Dick Yount, Frances McCarver, Gary Anderson, Carolyn Moren,

Lilyanne Inabinet, Elsie Prescott, Larry Duke

Prayer (in unison)

We give you thanks, O God, for all the saints who ever worshiped you. Whether in brush arbors or cathedrals; Weathered wooden churches or crumbling cement meeting houses; Where your name was lifted and adored. We give you thanks, O God, for hands lifted in praise: Manicured hands and hands stained with grease or soil, Strong hands and those gnarled with age, Holy hands used as wave offerings across the land. We thank you, God, for hardworking saints; Whether hard-hatted or steel-booted, Head ragged or aproned, Blue-collared or three-piece-suited. They left their mark on the earth for you, for us, for our children to come. Thank you, God, for the tremendous sacrifices made by those who have gone before us. Bless the memories of your saints, God. May we learn how to walk wisely from their examples of faith, dedication, worship, and love. In the name of Jesus, the Christ, we pray. Amen

+Prayer for Illumination (in unison)

Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the Scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed we may hear with joy what you say to us today. AMEN

+Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:1-4 Pew Bible NT page 978 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely,[a] and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such hostility against himself from sinners, so that you may not grow weary or lose heart. 4 In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
