What’s involved

About these coursesThose working in the healthcare industry never stop learning – and nurses are no exception. These postgraduate programs are designed to develop your skills and knowledge, whether you’re in the earliest stage of your career, or looking for a new area of specialisation.

Once the Graduate Certificate has been completed, students can then make their way to the Graduate Diploma or a Bachelor of Nursing Professional Honours. Both these courses further the knowledge gained in the Graduate Certificate. The Bachelor of Nursing also broadens your career prospects – with the research and evidence-based work providing a fantastic platform to work as a clinical specialist.

And finally, if you achieve a grade point average of at least a credit in your Graduate Diploma or BN Professional Honours, then the Master of Nursing could be your next big step. You will cover a range of significant issues in the nursing field – including leadership, management, clinical supervision, collaborative practice, mentorship and clinical governance.

Entry requirementsIn order to apply for the postgraduate nursing program you will need to be a Registered Nurse in Australia, and have had at least 6 months full-time experience in relevant nursing practice within the last five years.

Combining work and study commitments

Whilst undertaking one of the nursing specialisation courses you will need access to a relevant healthcare setting in your area of specialisation. Some streams will also require you to be employed in their specialist area of practice in order to ensure practical skills requirements of the courses are met.

Programs in the postgraduate nursing program are offered on a part time basis only, allowing you to balance your work and study commitments and study successfully at postgraduate level.
